  • No option to create recovery/usb drives

    I used my x 220 laptop for a year now and I am trying to port my OS on to a new drive mSATA I recently installed, but cannot create recovery disks to do this. I use rescue and recovery 4.5 for windows 7, but I don't see any option to create recovery/usb disks. I see only options to create a backup of my regular HARD drive and "create recovery media", which only seems to copy the service program of rescue and recovery, thinkvantage on the USB. I know that data that are installed on the USB key is not correct because it is about 500 MB, while I've read online that the complete recovery disk should take about 8.4 GB. I also know that I never created before recovery disks. Y at - it something that I'm missing is not let me create these disks?

    It's been a while since I've done it, but it worked in all situations where I tried: call Lenovo support and declare that you are unable to create recovery discs. There are several legitimate reasons to do this, for example from my experience...

    1. my X61s did not come with a DVD player and I don't have a DVD USB drive connected.

    2. my T60p reported all kinds of program errors when I tried to use the utility provided to create diskettes.

    3. an another ThinkPad (don't remember the model number) had a HD crash under warranty. Lenovo sent me a replacement HD but I had no recovery discs. (I had backups Acronis full score but Lenovo didn't and I didn't volunteer).

    4. one of my friends refused the license agreement for Windows on its ThinkPad. Instead, he decided to try Linux.     If your system is under warranty in my experience that Lenovo will send you a set of toll-free recovery disks. You may need to be a little persistent, but as long as you keep it clean, you should get them. Note however the last time I did that was at least 3 years ago so their policy may have changed. Also note that, in any case, my request is legitimate. YMMV.

    I have two external USB drives connected to my computer. Whenever I start, an AutoPlay window will appear for each reader, asking me what I want to do with it. It gives 2 choices "Open folder to view files", or "View more AutoPlay options in the Panel". If I choose to view more AutoPlay options, my USB keys do not appear at the bottom of the AutoPlay under devices. I want to continue to use AutoPlay for my CD/DVD players, but I want to stop AutoPlay Windows popping up whenever I start the computer. It's frustrating to have to click the X on both of these windows, whenever I start the computer.

    Click on the round to START and in the search box type "regedit" (without the quotes).  .
    Click once on the COMPUTER (upper-left) and then click the EDIT menu and click FIND.

    Type "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" and .
    In the left pane, right click EXPLORE and click EXPORT.
    Type "autorun" in the FILE NAME box, choose a folder of your choice and press the "SAVE" button.
     
    Back in the editor of the register, in the right pane, right-click on the NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry and click EDIT.
    Change the number 91 to 95.   Press OK.

    Reset.  If no joy, double-click the file that you saved, to merge into the registry.

    It's a good idea, or you can roll your own network with a fairly cheap hardware storage.  On the other hand, the device USB of flint is $ $100 USD or so, so if you have already some USB drives, it may be better to just get the unit of flint.  And then, again, you can probably remove the discs hard USB boxes and throw in a box cheap barebones storage attached to the network, so you do not lose your existing storage space.  Or you could hang the USB speakers to the market good material storage attached to the network.  Many ways...

    We do not use Flint for storage devices (although I did), we use them for other USB devices which must be attached directly to virtual, material license keys and other machines.

    Have you shut down / turning your Mac off... power off the USB drive... Connect the drive to the Mac... start up the Mac... then, turn on the USB drive?

    If no help, there are a number of posts to the thread in the forum El Capitan of support from users who have problems on their Mac USB.  You can post there to see if anyone has the answers.

It works fine except that my NDAS drive is more work and as soon as I connect an external USB drive or USB key, the system just hangs and I have to turn off to spend.     Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum. I understand that your USB drive is having problems of compatibility with your computer, but I would like to learn more about the issue in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. You did it any significant hardware or change software on the computer before this problem?
    2. When do you get exactly the error message?
    3. Have you tried to connect to any other computer on this flash drives?
    4. Your USB key works on other computers or have you tried to connect to different USB ports on this computer?
    5. Is the pen drive getting detected in the case or you are able to access the drive folder in the window of the computer ?

    The question may arise if the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or damaged, or if your PC requires an update for problems that could conflict with a device USB and Windows. This can also occur if your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt. So, I would suggest trying the following steps and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

    Please try the fixit (s) provided below which will help you solve common problems associated with devices and USB ports.

    If method 1 does not work, try Method 2.

    Method 2:

    Remove and reinstall all USB controllers.

    1. Open Manager devices by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click system and security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In the list of the categories of equipment, locate and expand Bus USB controllers.
    3. Right-click every device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    4. Restart the computer and let the USB controllers get reinstalled.

    Plug in the removable USB device and test to make sure that the problem is solved.

    If the problem persists, go to method 3.

    Method 3:

    This method will install the latest drivers from device to your USB device.

    1. Click the Start button, type Windows Update in the search box, and then click Windows Update in the results pane.
    2. Click find updates. When the scan finished, click optional review updates.
    3. Click the check box next to the update, and then click install updates.
    4. If you are prompted, read the license agreement, then click I agree.
    5. Follow the instructions on the screen to download and install updates.
    6. If you are prompted, restart your computer.

I was the look at the size etc and I can not change the size, even when I get a bit of it, it still doesn't let me have any size. It's driving me crazy.  Someone else had this problem? He acknowledges that my hard drive is more a 100gig, then why doesn't it let me have a 32gig player pen?  Come on bugs from Microsoft, a person must know why and how. Please tell me.     In each memory space is reserved to system files or material information, and there is nothing to do with drivers.

    I am trying to install Windows 7 on my Macbook pro mid-2012 running on El Capitan.
    I want to do with a USB key, I bought a 16 GB nine one. Try to create the USB bootable with Bootcamp, I get the error that the USB device is too small. I don't know why that it is 16 GB.

    Then I tried to format using disk utility, but I get an error.

    I tried to use the command line to do with diskutil, always get an error: impossible to disassemble the drive.

    Using diskutil I can see the USB key:

    -Why bootcamp with the new USB has not been able to make a USB bootable for windows.

    You must delete and format the USB stick in the form of FAT. What is a USB2 flash drive? A GPT with a FAT partition will not work.
