Activate or install the Terminal Server Service in Windows XP

I try to install Norton Internet Security, but it stops the installation and displays an error message - "this process cannot continue because of a system service which cannot be installed or does not start...". ». He then gives a redirect at- https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=20080923103733EN&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb. According to this, I need to activate the Terminal Service. I tried for two days to find out how to do this without success.

Can anyone help please?

We consider that you have Windows XP (sp3, preferably).  If you don't have XP, ignore the rest of the post and answer in determining which version of Windows you have, including service pack.

Exactly what happened when you tried the sc create command?  Please provide the full error message.

In the Services applet, what is the status of "DCOM Service Process Launcher"?

Termsrv.dll is present in C:\Windows\system32?
Perfts.dll is present in C:\Windows\system32?

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Is a subkey named present TermService?  TermService should have 3 subkeys: Enum, settings and Performance.

The following is for Windows XP sp3.  Before editing the registry, it is a good idea to make a backup first.  Unless you do a system restore point.  Or use C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT.

If the TermService key and its subkeys are not present (but 2 dll above files are present) copy the material between the * in a Notepad window.  The 'Save as type' value 'All Files' and save the file as TS.reg.  Then right-click on the file and select Merge.

    Hello

I used the Terminal Server service to connect to a remote Windows XP/Win 7 XP machine machines. At the beginning of this, it was beautiful, but after some time, say 1/2 hours, this remote XP computer has become inaccessible and even I couldn't use Teamviewer is there to connect! But when I went to this remote computer to XP, I noticed his connection was fine and I could ping www.google.com on it!

  • Disconnect a session from the Terminal Server Services causes system hiccups.

    Dear reader,

We noticed some undesirable in MSTSC behavior when a network connection drops during a session-MSTSC to a server. What happens is that when the user is disconnect from the remote session due to network connection dropping, the entire system freezes for a few seconds, making the communication on other physical cards within this same remote device which are not affected by a network connection cannot fall.

In order to reproduce that we run several tests on the following versions of windows using various equipment:

    • Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition
    • Windows 2008 Server R2
    • Windows XP

Tests were performed on both physical and VMWare virtual servers. All systems are equipped with at least two physical ethernet adapters on different IP networks.

During the test, we put a MSTSC connection to windows server during the first card (A) on this server. On the other (B) ethernet card we have implemented an application to communicate to a client on another machine, sending simple messages every second and receiving responses.

When we pulled the ethernet adapter cable has and in doing so, disconnected the MSTSC, the communication on the ethernet B card connection would fail aswell for a few seconds.

Is this a known issue? And in such a solution?

From a command prompt, see if you can start the Terminal Services Service.

    Type: netstart termservice

See if the service starts or if you get an error.

    Please let us know.

  • The Terminal Server service to start, get the message "system error has occurred."

I just reinstalled Windows 7 Professional and the first and the only thing I did was performed in the command prompt to enable remote desktop:

    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server" /v fDenyTSConnections /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="remote desktop" new enable=YesWhen I try to connect via RDP, it does not work and that is because term service is not started nor will it start. I open an elevated command prompt and type "net start termservice" and I get error 5. In services.msc it does not let me start it and it displays an error.

NOTE: THIS MIGHT BE IN THE WRONG WINDOWS TOPIC SINCE I COULDN'T FIND A TOPIC THAT I THOUGHT WOULD BEST FIT MY SITUATION.

On the flavors of Windows that are supported on the desktop remotely, you enable this feature via the control panel / system / remote settings / Remote. There is no need to hack the registry or start a particular service. Then you would see this registry key:

To test the RDP, you can use this command on the host itself:
    Telnet %ComputerName% 3389

To set a different port number, you must change these registry data:

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber

  • Terminal Server service not activated

I downloaded McAfee total protection in October.  It would work for a day or two, then I get a message that wouldn't update.  I have uninstalled & installed four times, contact McAfee three times.  The last time I have contacted, I was told that Services Terminal Server for Windows is not running.  It is disabled and this is why the critical updates for McAfee will not download.

By McAfee, I learned that I had to contact Microsoft to get a Server Terminal Services active again.

    Hello

    ·        You are able to install Windows Update on the system without any problems?

I suggest you to check whether or not the Terminal Server service is enabled on the system. Follow the steps mentioned below.

    a. Click Start and click Run.

    b. type services.msc in the Run dialog box and press ENTER to open the services window.

    c. find the Terminal Server service on the system and right-click on it.

    d. set the startup type to automatic and then click apply and then click ok.

    e. now checks to see if you are able to download the update for McAfee on the system.

Can you please let me know more about this service and what will happen if I stop the service. My OS is Windows XP SP3 / Google Chrome / laptop with wireless router / device of Netgear USB to connect to the router. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

In Windows Server 2008 R2 remote desktop services, formerly Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 and earlier versions, is one of the components of Microsoft Windows (client and server versions) that allows a user to access applications and data on a computer on a network using the Protocol RDP (Remote Desktop). Services Terminal Server is the Microsoft implementation of thin-client terminal server computing, where Windows applications, or even the entire desktop of the computer running Terminal Server Services, are made accessible to a remote client computer. The client may be a computer, running any operating system as long as the Terminal Server services protocol is supported, or a barebone machine powerful enough to support the Protocol with the Terminal services Server, only the user interface of an application is presented to the customer level. Any entry which it is redirected over the network to the server, the application execution takes place.

For more information, see this link:

    It will be useful.

  • VMWare offers an alternative to Terminal Server services in the following respect...

We have a set of accounts called Sage 50 accounts. It is a pretty horrible multi-user or single application for Windows.

Set up multiple users to propose you a Windows computer on the local network, 'the Sage server' and install all the files of this machine.

The client Setup is to install even on the rest of the PC but editing an ini file so that the client application connects to the data through a drive mapped on the Central Server network.

It comes from old outdated technology, such as the underlying FoxPro database and has some horrible incompatibilities for example. SMB2 locking on the Vista and Win7 customers, products client antivirus hung their machines she virus check the program folder, hogging the bandwidth of the network, etc...

Told me a stable solution it so to do a single installation of the «Wise» server on a Windows 2003 server and workstations to connect through the Terminal Services. In this way, it keeps it OS independent and does not monopolize the bandwidth network sends tons of data to the client.

I was wondering if VMWare offers products that reach a similar facility?

Last question (s) I promise you!

    (1) each physical workstation is currently MS Office, Sage accounting and Outlook for e-mail. Does make sense to run all these Virtual PC?

    (2) material, on which I intend to run ESXi is Intel Dual Core, 2 cards, LAN, 4 GB RAM, 2 x 500 GB SATA II drives

Is this OK spec to manage virtual server 2 k 3 and 10 workstations XP? I looked at the minimum requirements and it meets those, but do not know how mucb still to go to manage my 10 workstations & Server?

    (1) Yes, it would be nice

    (2) short on memory type - you have enough ram for each of the servers/workloads that will run on it. You can 'out' with less memory allocate virtual machines than for actual physical boxes, but I would like that esxi host to have at least 8 GB of ram - 12 GB would be great. Disc - looking spindles as much as possible - and for chucks be as fast as possible. If I were designing it, and recognizing the budgets, I would like to get a pair of good small mirrored disks (to be used as operating system - really small is fine. Can I have 4 or 5 SAS drives in a raid 5

Will be what you specified work? ermmmm... maybe a little - it depends entirely on the amount of use and the load. If you have any questions, then it would be wise to run all applications except perhaps for our wise accounting the physical desktop application and only use the jobs of virtual machine for the good stuff.

Has anyone in the community runs vcenter server 6 HA with PSC inspectors sitting behind the f5 load balancer? Please share your thoughts if you have seen a similar problem.

    Thank you.

    Hi all

We are able to go beyond the question of the installation. We did the capture of packets on both ends and discover that the reset was issued the installer by the licensing vCenter service running on the PSC.

We have also created firewall rules more 18 altogether since the server vcenter for our f5 load balancing program, then 6 VIP of the F5 on the two controllers on duty Platform.

I hope this helps other people who sought to install PSC in HA mode.

  • Cannot install the vCenter agent service. Cannot download agent.

I have a little trouble with three of my ESX servers. I'm in vCenter Server 4.0.0 162856. I have three clusters that I am currently using. One is my cluster of blade test environment on our old equipment on our internal network (running ESX 3.5). One is our new cluster of blade on our internal network. The final (and) I have a problem) are the pole of blade on our external network. The new run ESX 4.0.

When I tried to add new hosts to our new cluster of blade on the internal network, everything went relatively well. I am trying to simply add hosts to the cluster on the external network, but every time, I get the "cannot install the agent vCenter. service '. Error failed to download agent. I read on the web that this can happen sporadically and try to remove/put on your ESX servers. I tried with all three, and no download. I first thought that the hard drives of my hosts were too small because I am booting from SAN and dug 25 GB drives strictly to the operating system. So, I tried 50 GB hard drives, and that did not help.

My guess is that it may be some sort of firewall issue and asked our network guys to unblock the ports 902, 905 and 8443. Still, this does not seem to help. I checked the file/etc/hosts and three servers, the vCenter server, and the server for the backup is defined in there. I also tried removing and time of the cluster. The only thing that does not work I don't know a ping servers that are defined in the hosts file works (but not other local servers) is vmkping, which gives a * not configured vmkernel stack * error.

Someone at - it ideas? Do you think it's firewall or vmkernel associated? My understanding is that the vmkernel would begin after it is attached to a host, but I could be wrong on this matter.

    Thanks to all who help!
