Add the UNC path to search the index in Windows 7

I have a desktop running Windows 7 (commercial version).  I want to add some UNC paths in the search to allow Windows to search index to locate files on mapped network drives.

My network mapped drives from Windows Home Server that is running Windows Search 4.0.

I am running Windows Search 4.0 on a (separate) computer at work and I saw a tab in Indexing Options to allow the addition of UNC paths.  Unfortunately, it seems that the search built into Windows 7 version does not UNC paths to be added.

I saw solutions to this problem that involve UNC paths mapping local drives with the help of a symbolic link, but I don't want to do that.  Readers are already mapped and work just fine.  There must be a way to update the research on Windows 7 or otherwise activate adding of UNC paths?  It doesn't seem to be a downloadable installer for Windows Search 4.0 for Windows 7.

Note: I just saw the Windows Desktop Search add-in for Microsoft Networks (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f7e981d9-5a3b-4872-a07e-220761e27283&displaylang=en) files.  I will install that, but shouldn't it already be part of the search Windows on Windows 7?  Why do I need a complement of 2008 to allow something on a whole new operating system which is already present in versions of research working on older operating systems (XP, 2003 Server)?

I noticed several answers to select 'Always available offline' which copies the files to the local hard disk.  It is an unacceptable answer as my business system cannot be copied onto my hard drive.

Microsoft used to have the ability to add a network drive to the list of search/index.  It is a huge hole missing in the search for Windows 7.  I'll have to look at Google search of as an alternative if it manages the network drives.

  • How can I exclude specific folders of the indexing of Windows Media Player stream?

Windows Media Player 12 has removed the possibility of excluding some files being indexed.  This feature was available in Windows Media Player 11.  I need to be able to exclude some records indexed because I have collections of photos that are too big for the WMP player to manage.

Excluding these folders in the library WMP is not an option because MediaCenter uses the settings of the library to determine where to find pictures (even if it does not use the library to view photos or videos - just the WMP settings) so if they are not included in the library WMP, I can't see them in MediaCenter, but if they are in the WMP library he freezes everything for 30 minutes whenever I turn on an Extender that forces a re-analysis of the WMP library.

I tried to edit wmpfolders.wmdb to exclude certain files, but the changes that I last only for a few hours to a day or two.

    any ideas?

    Thank you
    Dan

Hi Khaled, thank you very much for your answer.  My question was related to the media library in Windows Media Player, but your response was to Windows 7 libraries.  Unfortunately, your answer does not apply to my question.

What I need to be able to do, is to exclude a folder from indexing of Windows Media Player streams although it is included in the list of folders to the index.  It's because the Media Center uses the settings of the library Windows Media Player to determine where to find pictures.  However, it does not use the Windows Media Library to view the photos.  It is, therefore, no need to have Windows Media Player, indexing of thousands of photos when Media Center does not even use the library to display.

The problem is that when I let Windows Media Player scan my pics, it causes all to slow down for 30 minutes or more each time I light a MediaCenter extender because it is re-scanner all my photos.  However, if I let Windows Media Player not scan my photos, so they are not visible in the MediaCenter.  There is a catch 22.

    Thank you

As much as I know, you can not do with the Insert panel. Those must be among the default items in the Insert menu.

You could do that (if you aren't already)...

Highlight the text in Design view

Right-click and select surround with tags...

    Type s-u-b or s-u-p

    Press enter/return twice

  • How to exclude folders while they are not the index by Windows Media Player 12, but are available in Media Center?

Just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and am having a problem with Windows Media Player 12 and its indexing.  In WMP11, you could put all your pictures in your "My pictures" folder (so they appear in the Media Center) but then exclude it from indexing in WMP11, then it would not bog you try to index all things.

This option has been removed in WMP12.  If you want images to appear in the Media Center, they must be included in your WMP12 library. (Even if Media Center does not use the WMP library to ALL display pictures - she designs per file)

Because I have thousands of photos and videos, this is a major problem at any time an Extender is turned on, because for some reason when you start an Extender it forces a new scan of all your media.  It is in turn completely failed the system leaving the main centre of the media both all completely unnecessary extensions while CPU hits 100%.

  • Cannot add the titles to Windows Media Player

I was able to repeatedly add titles to my media player library. Construction is 11.0.6002.18311 if that helps. Whenever I record my music into playlists, delete all the files in the appdata/local/microsoft/media reader, re - import playlists and I am able to add music again. However, after about a week or so, adding more tracks along the way, I am unable to add tracks from my library again and the cycle repeats. I can't keep doing this forever, as it is boring and tedious. I could do could prevent this from happening again? I have over 25,000 titles in my library and the file is beyond 1 GB. I suspect that WMP may be unable to manage libraries of this size.

Yes, "the file size maximum (CurrentDatabase_360.wmdb) library for WMP11 is 1 GB," according to http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/SW/WMP/Library.htm.

However, are you sure that he has just 25 000 songs in your library? This means that on average, each song uses about 41 k, which is unusually high. Please check if the library does not contain a lot of other elements, such as photos or videos.

I've already added 'LabVIEW P:\CWalker\COREYs subs projects\Phoenix' in the option search for VI and restarted path LabVIEW, but the message does not appear.

Yes, this is how I added the directory.

Since then, I managed to stop the pop-up message.

Of course, I had deleted some of the default values, such as "-*" of the VI option search path and that caused the popup message.

    We are all ONE!

I tried some of the solutions that offered you, but I think what was my problem was caused by the presence of the index on an external hard drive and when the computer has been restarted the drive letter of the USB drive was not the same.  If I remember well, it was a problem that I wasn't yet able to rebuild the index.

I now have the index on my hard C at the level of the root drive.  I was about to point to the other half of a 16 GB flash drive which is also USB, but Windows Vista Home Premium does not only because it appears that are considered removable flash drives, but external USB drives are not presented in this category.

Currently I have about 74 000 items indexed.

  • How to display the full UNC path to a subdirectory in Windows 7?

If I click to the right of the display path of bread crumbs in Windows Explorer in Windows 7, it will change to display the path of the directory under selected, but it uses the drive letter mapped for this player, not the UNC path.  For example, it can make it appear:

    H:\Production\Engineering

How can I view the UNC path, including the name of the server.  For example, something like this:

    \\ENG01\Team\Alpha\Production\Engineering

In this example, H: will be mapped to the \\ENG01\Team\Alpha.

I have searched the forums and support here and on the Internet, but couldn't find an answer.  Thanks for your help.

    Gary Petersen

If Cancel you the drive as a drive letter mapping, then add back to the place as a "network place", it will behave like you are looking for.  However, applications that depend on the car as a letter can fail.

  • How to add the 'search' tab in the .chm file

    Hi all

All of these days, I was using HR - 5 to create the .chm file. Today, I went to HR - 9. The chm file had the option to search automatically activated in HR - 5. But in RH - 9, glossary option only is available and I am not able to add the adjacent "Search" tab at the tab Index. Please refer to the screenshot for more details.

Please help me solve this problem that the customer expect tab "Search" for sure.

    Hi Lata

What show you in your image is a mismatch. The tab says glossary, but the content of the show search tab.

I think that in this case I suggest you try to define a new window with the attributes you need. Then configure the default window for the page layout that you are using.

    You define the window by:

    1. ensure that Microsoft HTML Help is the default layout.

    2. click on display > pods > project implemented and you should see the windows there.

    See you soon... Rick

  • Search and index of all projects of the child seem incompatible.

    Hello

I have created a new master of the project and added a child project using RoboHelp 9 HTML to create a file HTML from Microsoft.  When I opened the master chm file, I can view the index for the complete project (master and child) as well as to search through the entire project.    Then I added another project of the child (after you have created an index in children) and rebuilt my master.  When I discovered the new master chm file, the index does not include second child, although it does not include the first child, and the search does not search the second child.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the path for the second child is hardcoded? Hhp open it in Notepad and check what it says the MERGED FILES section. If you don't see a name of file, everything is good. If you see a path as well, which could explain why the search and index do not work.

I'm not sure how you would get a path for a project and not for the other hard-coded, but it's possible I think.

There was a recent suggestion that a fix for the hard-coded path is to ensure that the child chm exists in the main project before creating the fusion in the table of contents. If you don't want to keep the child within the main project, the only solution I know is a double compilation (compilation, open the HHP file and remove the path information in the FILES FUSIONNES section, then recompile) whenever you build a final version of the help.

  • Search and Index do not work in the project on the Web server

    Hello

I use RH 7 on Windows XP and build my project to help using WebHelp.

Search and Index functions work perfectly well in the project generated on my hard drive, but when the project is deployed on our Web server for user acceptance testing, these functions do not work.

    • When I search for a term, aid poster project "search...". ' or 'Chargement loading data, please wait... '. "(in a yellow box that displays only for a second or two,) but no display search results. When I search for a word in the project generated on my hard drive, the results appear immediately.
    • When I click on the Index tab, the list of indexes is completely empty.

For both functions, the "done, but with errors on page" or "Error on page" message appears in the lower left corner of the browser window. When I click the icon (point), an error message appears with the following details:

    Line: 688

    Char: 7

Error: ' Notes [...]. sTopicTitle' is null or not an object

    Code: 0

URL: http:// < I removed this part of the path for security reasons > /webhelp/whfbody.htm

I have attached a PDF file that contains screenshots comparing how these functions work on my drive hard and on the Web server (for security reasons, I've roughly blackened references from the company in the URL in the screenshots).

Does anyone have an idea on top of their head as to what could prevent indexing and job search functions? Perhaps this is due to a configuration setting or the security on our Web server or something - this entire process is new to me, so I have no idea how to solve this problem.

    Thanks in advance!
