  I just replaced my Photosmart C5280 All-in-one with an fancy 4500 all-in-one printer/scanner. To my horror the 4500 want does not scan to Searchable PDF Format. (I find this very dissapointing and think it should be clearly advertised on the box.)

  My Photosmart C5280 OCR software must always be installed on my computer (Windows 8) and there are OCR software on the market. But is it possible (installation, download, purchase, etc.) to get the 'Searchable PDF' option available to the envy of 4500 software of scans? I want to prevent additional steps for each document that I will be scanning.

  2. the option you want is the third tab in the region, print attributes, but the environment should be set up to produce PDF files (usually Apache FOP or the Oracle BI/XML publication server). Not sure if apex.oracle.com supports PDF printing, you mind.

  "Document JavaScripts" - the Action Wizard command is unnecessary, since all this is invite you to manually enter the code for each file, that is the exact opposite of what should be an automated process.

  Fortunately, there is another way to do it, that does not involve user interaction. You can use the command execute JavaScript to add the code to your file. Basically, you can use it like this:

  function myCode() {}

  do something

  }

  this.addScript ("Scripts", myCode + "myCode();");

  This include the myCode function in the file and then call each time the file is opened.

  However, I would like to replace this.pageNum in your code with a real page (such as 0) number, since you do not know on what page the document will open.

  use navigateToURL will cause the pdf to open it in the browser IF the user has a reader of pdf browser plugin.  otherwise, the user will download the pdf file and, if the option open is give and selected, the default operating system program (when it exists) will open the pdf file.

  If the user (for example, me) don't have acrobat reader, there is nothing you can do to cause a pdf to open it in acrobat.
