Adding a password to a folder.

You are able to add a password to a folder on a server?

You really cannot password protect folders with Vista (However, you can protect zipped files/records http://techblissonline.com/how-to-password-protect-zip-files-in-windows-xpwindows-vista/) - which is not one of its features (at least it is not 32-bit Vista Business SP2).

Here is a free software that protects files in encrypted them so only people you want to be able to access it can do without seeing just gibberish: http://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/.  It does not use a password (just your connection user name rights), but it accomplishes the same goal.  There is also a paid version of this program that, in my view, password protect folders (or the free version can also well - information is not entirely clear).

It's not exactly what you want, but it can serve your needs - you can check it out and see for yourself: http://www.bestvistadownloads.com/software/k-folder-lock-hide-password-protect-private-file-t-free-easy-file-locker-download-thfxsbeu.html.

It's not exactly what you want, but affects the protection of password for the files (in an unusual way): http://www.nirmaltv.com/2008/07/25/password-protect-your-folders-in-windows-with-my-lockbox/.

Here is one that seems to be what you want, but I can't say if it can be isolated from the other features that you may not: http://www.easyfreeware.com/folderdefence_free-38583-freeware.html.

I don't know if you are hosting a web page, but if you do, you can get software password protection free in Exchange for a permanent link to the company being placed on your web page: http://www.protect-folders.com/free.html.  It can also be bought--I don't check the price.

In here's one for $20, which just about everything you'd want from a software folder password protected: http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/5682/Protect_Folder_98.html - but I normally do not recommend software that costs money because it has options (such as the others listed here) who are free and they often work just as good if not better.  I added this just so that you would have a final option if you do not like the others.

This should be enough options to check them out and make a choice (if it meets your needs).  To do exactly what you want (and only that) probably requires commercial software (as above)-although I am woring and one of them can do the job very well.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • Is it possible to set a password to a folder randomly in Windows 7?

I would like to know if it is possible to add a protection password to a folder created in Windows 7. I realize that you can set up different user accounts or enter the settings on a network share, but it's not my situation. I usually let the friends and other family members just use my computer without going to the trouble to set up a new user account. I would like to create a folder where I can keep the documents with lists of passwords, numbers of accounts and other sensitive data. Is it possible to simply set a password to a single folder?

It is not possible to specifically put a password on a folder and using something like file encryption would not be useful to you or given to your entire family use the same account.

Short of recommending the use of different accounts that would be wise you might look at some of the solutions available out there like PGP and so on.

You might also consider password protecting the actual files, then your file passwords, for example, if it's in Microsoft Word, add a password.

Simple answer, however, is to use accounts for different users, for this and many many other advantages...

    Good luck!

  • printer does not print wireless now that I added a password on our wireless account

Does not print my 611 3052 printer all-in-one wireless more.  I added a password to our wireless router and now it will not pick up the printer.  What should I do?

Well Yes, the reason why I proposed the software is that it is the only way to get the wifi password.

I would recommend you go to the front of the printer and go to settings > Wireless > default settings before running the software.

  • Cannot print with HP6840 since I added the password to the Apple AirPort Extreme network

I recently added to my Mac Airport Extreme network WPA password protection. While I can access the network from my computer, I can't print a HP6840, one of my two wireless printers, even if there is no problems prior to the addition of password.

I can always print to my old HP LaserJet 6MP using an AppleTalk-Ethernet bridge and managed to reconfigure my second wireless printer to work with the new password.

    I already tried the following:

Uninstalled/reinstalled the original CD and more recent software/drivers HP printer

Tried to printer configuration using the Ethernet - half thanks looking for printer, received an error message "Communication error with a printer" and the installation process has failed.

Checked: Safari bookmarks / Hello: printer does not appear

Computer and the printer turned off and restarted the computer

    None of these attempts succeeded.

Any suggestions on how to restore my wireless printing?

    Thank you.

Mac OS 10.5.7 iMac with Intel processor

I spent 3 hours on the phone this morning with the HP Technical Support. While the call cost me $35, it's probably money well spent. After trying all kinds of approaches to installation, we finally concluded that the villain was probably the combination of personal WPA2 to authenticate password on my network and the inability of the HP6840 printer (now almost 5 years) to support WPA2. Tech said that WPA2 wasn't around 5 years.

So I have two options: delete the password completely and let my unprotected network, use a WEP password (which can create an Apple AirPort and the printer can recognize) or try a WPA password. However, it seems that the airport offer only WPA-Personal and WPA Enterprise, while the printer does not seem to accept the WPA.

Even if I don't really relish change passwords again, it seems that WEP is the way to go.

Hope this helps those trying to install old printers on the new networks.

  • Is it possible to apply a password to a folder in my photo folder?

I have individual files in my photo folder.  I would like to put an option of password on one of security files.  Is there a way to do this?

If your user account is protected by password, all your files & folders are protected by password, too.

Any version of Windows includes an option to password - protect individual folders.

  • Some sort of password protect the folder "Startup"? Without administrator.

I wonder if I can password protect or even lock the start-up folder for a specific user? I don't have administrator privileges, so I'm not able to use any kind of folder lock program. I need to make sure that the programs that I put in the folder loading whenever my PC starts, without them being able to be moved out of the folder. If anyone has any ideas, I would be very happy!

    Thank you

Without being admin, I don't think you can do a lot. There is always the possibility to elevate yourself, which isn't too difficult, but giving instructions to bypass passwords and crack administrator accounts is against the rules of this forum. I'm sorry. Why not, contact your system administrator and set the autostart files? Or is that you won't know everything?
