SSD: Which method of installation is the best?

I install my first Samsung SSD in a new XPS 8700.  It will be the boot drive for the Windows 7 operating system and program applications.  I have 3 options and am trying to decide which route to go:

  1. Use the migration software provided with the SSD drive for quick transfer.  Apparently, it does not copy the Dell partition.
  2. Installing from the Dell System Restore DVD I did when I ran the system.  This restores the Dell, or just the OS partition?
  3. A new installation of Windows 7 using the OS disc (which I have).  No Dell partition with this method.  Drivers must be installed.  I have the Dell drivers (rev A00) disk, dated April 2013, so I don't know how current drivers are out there, but I can download the most recent.  This method would require special SATA drivers be loaded during the installation?

And what I need to do any special partitioning?   Thanks for your suggestions/comments.

None of the special SATA drivers not necessary, and I would recommend to go with option 3: the new installation of Windows 7. Download the latest drivers for Win7 64 bit for Dell website, but I do not recommend updated the A06 BIOS/UEFI. Stick with A03 if that's what you already have. You can use a free application like 'Speccy' to see what you have (in the "motherboard" section). Also check that you are running in mode "AHCI" (as opposed to "IDE") in the BIOS/UEFI.

If your 8700 was running Windows 7 and nothing additional is needed beyond what is mentioned above. But if your XPS 8700 has been running Windows 8/8.1, you will need change some settings in the BIOS/UEFI before installing Windows 7. If this is the case for you, here's how to (search the page for "XPS 8700"):

  • What / which method to use for the duplicate database

    Greetings, the Experts of Oracle

    I'm trying to replicate a database (src) of production to another machine (dest) for developers to do some tests before applying the changes to the production environment. The src and dest running Oracle 10 g 2 RHEL 4, 5.

    Due to the firewall in our environment policy, may that src and dest will not be able to see each other on the network. Also the directory structure will be different on src and dest.

    Now, there seems to be several methods available to achieve this:
    1. duplicate with RMAN, something like:
    rman TARGET sys/password@src NOCATALOG AUXILIARY sys/password@dest
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO dest NOFILENAMECHECK;
    2. backup/restore with RMAN.
    3 use the Import and Export (including impdp/expdp) utilities.

    From my research so far, option 1 seems to be the method for this purpose. He also manages the directory structure difference quite well. However, it requires connection to src and dest simultaneously during replication. Is there a way it could be done from a backup image instead of a connection to the database of the CBC? Other 2 options are possible? Are there any other ways I could duplicate the database given the situation?

    Appreciate your help.

    If the CBC and destination cannot access another, then the simplest option will be #2 (restore a database to a new host: scenario) who also address the different directory structure.

  • WHAT IS THE BEST DISK CLEANER FOR A MIDDLE-2O12 MACBOOK PRO?

    I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro 13-inch (OS X El Capitan v. 10.11.2). Up to 8 GB of memory, I improved last month. The processor is Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz. It has a 500 GB hard drive and I have about 417 GB of free space available.

    I would like to know which disk cleaner would be the best for me to use? I read on CleanMyDrive 2 and I want to know if it is really as good for Macs as they say it is.

    None. Your Mac runs the maintenance in the background for you. The so-called Mac utility for cleaning can cause more harm than good on a Mac. Avoid them.

  • What is the best way to record movies on PC and change the names of video files?

    Names of files dvr - ms MCE?

    I use Win XP, SP3, MCE 2005 and I want to change the file name of some of the videos saved on my computer.  Currently I use MCE to record movies at home on my computer and then burn them to DVD.  I plugged the VCR/camcorder for video on computer TV card and MCE set to record 1 channel at say 20:00 and turn my VCR/camcorder to play at this time.  MCE records the film as if it were a recorded TV show.  A few questions:

    Is there a better way to do it?  The home movies are on different formats - Betamax, VHS, camcorder Sony 8 and mini DVD.

    The file is saved with descriptive as - news channel 1, channel information (Direct TV channel label), 20:00, 2 h,-where is this kind of things saved info and I can change it?  If I can change it, what format should I use?

    The video file is saved in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Shared Video\... and the name of the file to this location seems to match the name of the actual file displayed in MCE - but if I want to change to say "Christmas" birthday 2005, can I do without corrupting the file?  What format constraints are there for the name of the file?

    Is there a better way to change the description and the name than just using windows and right-click on the file and selecting rename?

    And just to repeat the first question - is there a better way to record movies on the computer?

    Thank you

    Scott

    Hi Scott,.

    According to the research, the method you follow is the best way to record movies on computer.

    You will need to look for a program that helps you edit metadata.

    Note: Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be resolved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • which method is better for performance?

    Using SQLs to the front or stored procedures on the back, which method is preferable to the performance?

    I agree with Justin.

    The main performance benefits is that it is useless to send back data on the network, in addition, stored procedures are strongly coupled with the database and stored in port form. This means that data manipulation commands are treated much more effectively, that would be the case if an external program has been used. The other advantage is that stored procedures will run on the server hosting your Oracle database and that is usually much more powerful than computers running the client software.

  • What is the best "workflow" for sharpening Ultimate w PSE 8?

    I shoot a lot of flowers near upward and also birds. Both have lots of details, feathers or Stamen, so I rely heavily on the sharpening. With birds, sometimes they are flying or remote or both, which makes it difficult to get sharp photos. Recently, I learned a lot about sharpening and now I am suffering, "I know, more I know that I don't know." In addition, some of my information is based on rumor and I appreciate all the advice. What would you say if I discuss my work flow and ask a few questions here and there.

    I shoot RAW with a Canon 7 d and I almost always reduce my photos to nnnn x 1080 for that conversation, lets assume that I always do this downsizing. I heard that reduced pictures should never be sharpened up to the once they are reduced. Is this true? Should I set all sliders sharpening in ACR to zero? Should I also keep the low clarity slider in ACR or is it more your contrast medium and less sharpening? Is there another way to improve the clarity in PSE, ACR not?

    When I finished with the cab and open in the elements, the first thing I do is crop and resize using Image, resize, bicubic sharper. Then I correct the imperfections. Then, I select on the subject (s) and adjust the curves of colors and then light sharpening, which seems to give me the best results that Enhance-setting sharpness. (After two years of use of items I found this bright sharpness and it's so good. I wish I would have notice this Brundage in the earlier book. I did ask me what I'm missing.) After light sharpening should I try high-pass sharpening more or any other type of sharpening? Is there empirical rules on what kind of sharpening works best in which application? For example, I heard another rumor that sharpening of the strong or the shadows just increases noise. Is there a good way to handle these situations, as select out them, or use a special blending mode?

    After I'm done with the subject, I usually reverse in the background and noise and/or blurr and Desaturate to puncture the subject.

    Is Photoshop complete necessary to get the best sharpening tools or sharpening similar and other aspects are more powerful? I use so little of 8 items that I guess and hope that Photoshop or Lightroom would be overkill at this stage.

    Thank you very much for this review! If you can think of anyway I could improve, I would really appreciate any comments.

    Doug

    I'm a little worried about it:

    Using Image, resize, Bicubic Sharper

    Is there a special reason why resampling belongs to your basic workflow? It is generally not something you want to do until you have to.

    You have the same version of GarageBand on Mac?

    Otherwise, some sounds from the old version of GarageBand may be missing in the new Mac.

    But you can simply copy the GarageBand project on a thumb drive or an external drive with enough storage and copy them on.  Or use your network - put the songs in the Public folder on the old Mac and from there copy them to your music on the recent Mac folder.

  • The best way to remove/uninstall a double installation of Firefox (1 current to be preserved, 1 old/obsolete version which turned out Secunia be eliminated)?

    I had not considered the release of Secunia PSI in awhile until yesterday and was surprised to discover that he pointed out an old version of Firefox (v27.x) that was obsolete and should be removed. The installation path for this v27.x entry is in a completely different subdirectory structure of Firefox C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla in which resides the current installation of v36.0.1 - obsolete version is installed in the structure of C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Mozilla Firefox where «...» "refers to my specific user name (which is legitimate, I'm the only person using this desktop computer).

    I started using Revo Uninstaller (licensed version) to force the uninstall of this executable specific v27.x, but after analysis that he presented purpose actions that would run the uninstaller integrated and identified that v36.0.1 would also be removed simultaneously. Is there a Protocol by which I can remove the old version and all of its entries in the registry without affecting the current version and its registry entries (and profile, etc.)?

  • Method of recovery Toshiba - which has put in place is the best

    I bought a new laptop and on setting up it asks me to choose a method of recovery. The options are
    -Recover out - of - box-state (System Recovery Options are included)
    -Recover without changing the hard drive partitions
    -Get a custom size partition

    What is the best option to select?
    I think that the custom would be best once I have composed my recovery discs after the complete series but want to be sure.

    Can anyone help?
    Thanks smilee

    Hello

    -* Back to the out of box - the State (System Recovery Options are included) *.
    This Option affects your laptop in return, the factory default status. Partitions will be deleted and recreated, as it was the first start.
    Note: All data will be lost, and the HARD drive recovery Option will always be available, if you want to find your laptop again.

    -* Retrieve without changing the partitions of hard drive *.
    All data on the first partition will be lost, and the HARD drive recovery Option will always be available, if you want to find your laptop again.

    -* Retrieve a custom size partition *.
    All data on the HARD drive will be lost and the recovery of HARD drive Option is not available, if you want to find your laptop again. Make sure you have a DVD created for the future of recovery

  • [ADF, JDev12.1.3] Java webservice class methods mapping: which are the best practices? I seek advice from experts...

    Hallo,

    in my application (let's call it "MyADFApp"), I created a Java class (let's call it 'Services') which maps simply a C++ application methods (let's call it "Différendsapp") similar to a Web service.

    "Différendsapp" works on the same machine where the "MyADFApp" (works on Glassfish).

    I need to use the 'Services' methos both in the model layer and ViewController so:

    • I imported 'Services' in the AppModuleImpl
    • I created in the AppModuleImpl method for each method of 'Services '.
    • I exposed these new methods of AppModuleImpl for the ViewController
    • I configured class 'Services' to call "Différendsapp" on localhost since it runs on the same computer in 'MyADFApp '.

    In AppModuleImpl, I can call 'Services' methods directly while controlled beans think I call these methods to help

        BindingContext bctx = BindingContext.getCurrent();
        BindingContainer bindings = bctx.getCurrentBindingsEntry();
        OperationBinding operationBinding = bindings.getOperationBinding("ServicesMethodToCall");
        operationBinding.getParamsMap().put("param1", param1value);
        operationBinding.getParamsMap().put("param1", param2value);
        operationBinding.execute();

    I am a beginner and I would like to know by experts if the instinctive approach I follewed is good or not and if JDev/ADF offers me a better way to use my class of 'Services '.

    For example, I tried to convert my class of 'Services' in a DataControl and I wonder if will work it after you have configured the class to use localhost or not.

    I wonder if after you have configured the class to use localhost will work in the case I have to import/use also the class directly in managed bean (which I did in AppModuleImpl).

    I would be happy if you could answer my questions and give me some explanation.

    Thank you

    Federico

  • What is the best way of reformatting my MacBook ssd for resale?

    I'm preparing my 2015 12 '' MacBook 1.3 GHz 512 for resale.  What is the best way to erase and reformat the SSD drive?

    Thanks in advance!

    -jag

    Before you sell or give away your computer, and more the steps listed in this article to support, please follow these steps:

    1. run the Diagnostics from Apple or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do (or it should), and you won't be surprised by the results.

    2. reset the PRAM and the SMC, which may contain personal information.

    3. If you set a firmware password, remove it by running the utility in recovery mode firmware password.

    4. If you turn on FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.

    5. If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.

    6. If you have created another partition of data on internal disk, remove them in disk utility.

    7. If the machine has an internal hard drive, erase the remaining data partition with the possibility of putting the data to zero. An SSD has no need to be set to zero.

    8. remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it is still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the warranty to the new owner as described in the terms and Conditions AppleCare (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

    Note also:

    You can legally or transfer almost any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. This includes OS X, so if you've switched to OS X 10.7 or later, you need to reinstall an operating system older, either from the installation media, if any, or by commissioning in recovery mode of the Internet (option-command-R start ringing.)

    The new owner will have to re-download everything software that came on the App Store, as appropriate, including updates of OS X, under her Apple ID. If you never updated applications bundled iLife (iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band) through the App Store, you can not transfer these either. The buyer must buy them. Note that iPhoto has been suspended and is no longer available for purchase.

    The best you can do is to contact Samsung and request recovery media to restore your system to its factory default state.

    Call Samsung to get a recovery disc - to find a phone number for your location:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/oemphone/

    Thank you Andre, very appreciated, unfortunately Samsung and their Tech Support here in the UNITED Arab Emirates was not as useful.

    I managed to keep the button restore during the 5 sec boot process that initiated the request 5 restore Samsung which was then able to take the original installation of the hidden Partition image.

    Fortunately the issue is resolved.
