Adding physical disk

The current server configuration:
Dell PowerEdge 510 with 12 hard drive on Controller PERC H700 bays.  4 berries are already used for operating system and Application installation.  Configured with RAID 10

I need to install harddisk 8 additional in the remaining bays with configuration RAID10 to increase the storage capacity of the server.

Is this possible without affecting the existing 4 discs which I already OS and applications, and the data in it?  My HE informed me that there may be a risk when the RAID tables are rebuilding, but it's not really make sense to me.  Can someone please help check?

eetzen
If I set up 2 separate RAID 10 s, this means at the level of the OS, I see 2 different volumes?

Yes, each volume (virtual disk or array) is considered to be a 'disc' separated by the operating system.

eetzen
Would it not possible to combine the two volumes in one, as it's storage for multimedia files big?

Yes and no.

Yes: You can extend them in a single volume in Windows, but I HIGHLY recommend against it.

Yes: You can back up data and create a new RAID 10 with all discs.

No: This can be done at the level of the controller/material - you can't dynamically develop "nested" RAID levels (10, 50, 60) like you can with RAID 1/5/6.

I think you would be MUCH better with a second larger volume.

  • Fusion Pro 8 still requires the administrator password to log raw physical disks at startup

I'm 10.11.3 El Capitan server running in an instance of VM Fusion 8 running on a 10.11.3 host El Capitan.

For performance reasons, I connect Raw / partitions of physical disk using the links generated with the vmware-rawdiskCreator command line tool and added to the .vmx file.

My question is, since it is a server, I want it to load VMWare Fusion and start the virtual machine automatically at startup, but each time the virtual machine is started, a message appears stating "VMware Fusion requires administrator privileges to access Boot Camp disks.  Type your password for this purpose".

Some research that it used to be far to say merge to "never ask" passwords, but this feature doesn't seem to be an option of Fusion Pro 8.

Is there a work around to bypass the manual password entry requirement?

OK, I found an answer to my own question...

Although it doesn't seem to be an option to disable the prompt of the graphical interface of Fusion Pro 8, there IS one on the command line.

First, find the UID of the user account that you launch VMware Fusion with the help of.

    ID

(Often this will be 501 as the UID of the first user created on any mac).

    Then run...

    / Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-rawdiskAuthTool neverAsk

For more info general run and switches...

    / Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-rawdiskAuthTool--help

  • Expand a virtual disk with new physical disks?

    Hello people,

Pleas in law not to shoot me to ask what I fear it may have already answered somewhere and my research is poor and as still not turned up the answer.

I'm relatively new to VMware, previous job was especially MS Hyper-V and is always to some extent.

Hower to the point in question, I have a single host (VMware ESXi 5.0.0) with a single server VMware 2008R2 on her guest and the C: drive is quickly running out of space. The existing, aligned hard disk virtual hard disk has 10 GB free to extend the ramdisk with.

Therefore, my thoughts are I might add an another one or two new physical disks and add them to the data store that is aligned with the virtual C:\drive to the comment server, I would then be able to extend the exisitng C:\ virtual hard disk with the new ability to drive two new physical drives added?

Hope this sense makses, hoing it's okay and I get out of jail!

    Thank you very much

    Graeme

    Hello

Please see this link because it deals with the procedure to enlarge a vmdk and extend partition in comments

First enlarge the data store after the addition of physical drives. Select the data store, properties, increase and the LUN detected.

Then use the vmkfstools as explained in the video to develop

  • Adding additional disk space to Perc 6 / i server R710

I have currently 3 250 GB installation as a raid 5 (original configuration) disks on a server R710 with a Perc 6 / i controller.  I ordered 3 discs (same readers) that we are running out of disk space. There is a set up disk C: and D:.  Can someone point me to instructions for adding these additional disks for the raid existing (drive D) without having dataloss?

    Thank you

    Gary

If you don't have that one 'disk' listed in disk management, then you have only a single VD configured, which is good.

You must install OMSA to broaden your VD. You then insert your new drives, make sure that they show as ready under physical disks, then go to virtual disks and select Reconfigure to your RAID 5. Adding two drives in your RAID 5 will add about 500GB (bit math makes it a little less) to your current Windows 'disk '. After the reconfigure statement, you will have something similar to below. Then, assuming that you do not run 2003, you click on the D: drive and choose Extend to finish with the second photo:

    Hello UtkinE,

Yes, you will need to stop all iSCSI traffic so that you can update the NVSRAM.  With the timeout error you get all came from controller 1 & he had only discs 1 & 5.  The current version of NVSRAM you version 4 and the last one which is for the MD3000i is version 13.  With who have older firmware it was improvements to correct your problem in the latest versions of firmware.  I also had one of our analysts will confirm as well just to make sure that it is the best fix for your problem.

  • Degraded physical disk channel MD3000i

I get this error on my MD3000i we have a connected to the MD1000. All discs show optimal, but disk channel 1 shows optimal disk channel 2 shows degraded.

Here a technician Dell here I can send zip support for?

    Hello grendels_Arm,

What I would do, is to clear the statistics of physical disk channel. Here are the commands that must be run:

    SMcli n Pei password - c "clear stats allPhysicalDiskChannels;

    SMcli n Pei password - c "set physicalDiskChannel State [0] = optimal;

    SMcli n Pei password - c "set the status of physicalDiskChannel [1] = optimal;

If you still get the error after erasing all channel statistics, then we need to look a your MD3000i support beam to see what the cause of the error still occur.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Path of degraded physical disk MD3000i

The storage profile shows as optimal, even if I think it's been reset with smcli.

I have attached the support beam.

    Hello Pondule,

Thanks to the new support package. So by examining all of the support, everything is good, but the error is suspended in the cache.  You will need to do is to restart the MD & who should clear the error of the guru.

  • MD3000i individual physical disk - gradient path

Recently, we have replaced a failing in our MD3000i HARD drive. After letting it rebuild, all the disks are again in an optimal state. But the recovery guru still gives this error:

Individual physical disk - gradient path
    Gradient of physical disk paths:
    Channel: 0
    Physical disks: (unknown)

Can I support safely on "Check again", or what would be the procedure I should follow to get rid of this error?

    Hello Diss,

Since you say that when you look in MDSM all readers are also optimal then you should be able to do a recheck out the recovery guru & have it checked to confirm that all the drives are online & optimal.  If after you run the recheck if the cottage no matter what drive as still having problems, then what I would do is to recheck MDSM & confirm that the drive displayed as failed.  The error normally clears once a car has been replaced but in some cases I see need to run check again to clear the error recovery guru.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Adding new disk unassigned

    Hello

We changed a defective disk (has no data on the subject) in the slot 9 of our MD3000i with a new drive, when I'm in MD Manager said table optimal. When I go to the hardware component - physical disks , I can see all readers said affected, but the Player 9 says unallocated. We have 2 new drives in the unit and I want to create a new disk group and a new virtual disk from these 2 players more reader 9 so when I go to create a new disk group it I can see Unassigned disc 9 and the other 2 discs.

    quesiton:

Why Player 9 say no affected? can I go ahead and create my discs with Player 9 group and the other 2 drives?

    Thank you

    Hello mrshahin,

Yes that's correct.  When you create the new disk groups it only will allow you to do with disks that are not assigned to another group of disks.  For 7, 8, & 9 are showing as unused, so you can use them to make a new disk group.

Please let us know if you have any other questions

    Dear Experts,

Don't + REDO1 diskgroup have only one physical disk has several partitions makes no sense to the production oracle database?

    For example

    • + Diskgroup Redo1 have 2 50 GB disks (fact these 2 discs are the same physical disk partitions OR these should be separate disk as recommended approach)?
    • + Diskgroup Redo1 have 2 drives of capacity 50 GB (for RAID 1 + 0)
    • + Diskgroup Redo2 have 2 50 GB disks
    • + Diskgroup Redo2 have 2 drives of capacity 50 GB (for RAID 1 + 0 )

    Hello

Partitioning your disks for ASM configuration as 'A' might make sense. If you lose one disk, you have the discs to another.

'B' totally make sense if you have lost the disc that you have lost all group ASM and you need to change this with something like 'C '.

But obviously you need redundancy ASM configured appropriately.

    Kind regards

  • T310 degraded virtual disk, all physical disks 'online '.

It is a PowerEdge T310 server. Physical disk 0:0:3 showed physical way errors in the past, but after reinstalling the drive, everything was going well for a while. Now Dell OM reports that the virtual disk is degraded, but all four disks are online reports and have this green check mark by them.

Nothing shows expected failure and I don't see any disk medium error, the firmware is up to date - is their something I don't see as to why my virtual drive would fail? I think there is always a problem with PD 0:0:3 even though she does not appear in the newspapers. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The official version said that WS allows only virtual up to 8 TB of disk.

According to my own tests, it only limits the size of the VMDK for 'New - VM' Assistant.
Once you have a greater vmdk - just tried a vmdk 10TB - WS won't complain about the size.
I don't expect that WS will prevent the physical disks to use inside a virtual machine that is already configured.
So in your case I think you started WS with a normal user account.
Try to start as administrator WS - maybe even using the administrator account.
I think that then it will work.
Unfortunately, the error messages produced by vmware.exe are not really accurate-, so there is no way to know if you really have a bad super block.
To test if this is really the problem and not just an error message - poor try to mount the drive directly.
Please post the vmdk - want to know if there is something unusual about 5.5 TB in the disk.
