Additional disk system

Hello

I just installed Windows on my Dell Poweredge R310 2008 using a hard drive only that I configured through management of the RAID. Now after installing, I want to add another physical hard drive to serve additional drive on my windows OS to serve a simple storage for all the files (drive d).

I have to go through the Raid Configuration again?

what I will choose, foreign import or a Setup clearly the promp?

I'm afraid, maybe I'll lose the data on my previous drive and reinstall the operating system from the beginning.

If anyone can suggest steps to do this I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Winston,

One thing I need to know is the controller installed on the server.

If you have a H700 then YES you can. It is referred to as a Raid level Migration. It is as easy as to do a Reconfigure of OpenManage, then selecting the disc you want to add.

Now if you have a H200 or SAS6/iR, then Raid level Migration is not an option and the only way to do it would be to recreate the table.

Now, if you have the H700, so as I told you cross OpenManage and do a Reconfigure. The data must be good, but we always suggest backup data before doing anything in the controller. Just in case.

You can find more information on the Raid Migration on page 31 here - http://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_dell_adapters/poweredge-rc-h800_User ' s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Let me know if it helps.

  • Add additional disks in VM

    Hello

    I'm working on a workflow that will add disks to an existing virtual computer.  I looked at the default workflow 'Add drive '.  2 entries, I can not understand is diskIndex and scsiBusNumber.  How can I find these numbers?  Is there a way to search for the existing virtual computer, extract the current support information, then increase the diskIndex 1 to create a loop for additional disks?

    Any help or point me in the right direction.

    Thank you

    B

    Hello B, give this a try... workflow you mention vCenter is so here:

    Entry: vm (VC:VirtualMachine)

    Released: diskIndex (number), busNumber (number), data store (VC:Datastore)

    The diskIndex returned should be the next available diskIndex. The busNumber is the current busNumber of the disc already in the virtual machine. And the data store is the first store of data referenced by the virtual machine

    Code:

    scsiControllerKey = -1;
    var devices = vm.config.hardware.device;
    var bus = null;

    if ( devices != null )  {
        for ( device in devices )  {
            if ( devices[device] instanceof VcVirtualBusLogicController || devices[device] instanceof VcVirtualLsiLogicController
            || devices[device] instanceof VcParaVirtualSCSIController || devices[device] instanceof VcVirtualLsiLogicSASController )  {
                    scsiControllerKey = devices[device].key;
                    bus = devices[device];
                    busNumber = devices[device].busNumber;
                    //System.log( "SCSI controller found. (Key: " + scsiControllerKey + ")" );
                    //System.log(" Bus Number: "+busNumber);
                    break;
            }
        }
    }

    var validNumbers = [0,1,2,3,4,5,6];
    var devices = vm.config.hardware.device;
    if ( devices != null )  {
         for ( device in devices )  {
              if ( devices[device] instanceof VcVirtualDisk) {
                   var u = devices[device].unitNumber;
                    for (i in validNumbers) {
                        if (validNumbers[i] == u) {
                            validNumbers.splice(i,1); // Remove number in use
                        }
                    }
              }
         }
    }
    var datastore = vm.datastore[0];
    var diskIndex = validNumbers[0];
    //System.log("diskIndex: "+diskIndex);

    You did it of any material changes or software on the computer before this problem?

    I suggest you chkdsk from the Recovery Console and check if the problem persists.

    At the Recovery Console prompt, type which Suits, and then press ENTER:

  • PowerEdge R510 - expand RAID5 with additional disks

    Hello

    I have an ESX5 VMWare hypervisor running of PE R510 (embedded) on SDs in the mirror.  We currently have SAS 5 x 146 GB drives in a RAID5 configuration that provides approximately 1.6 gross TB of storage for the VMFS data store.

    I'm trying to understand whether it is possible to add additional disks to this configuration RAID5, so expand the virtual disk, without the need to destroy/loose data in place?  If so, what steps would be to do this?

    Thank you

    Chris

    Yes, it's called Online Capacity Expansion.  You can reconfigure your 5 RAID 5 disks to include more records by adding them to the table.  It is non-destructive and can be done online.  You can use the service reconfigures the software OpenManage for do this, either by adding the VIB ESX or boot from a disk Live OMSA.

    Once you have added the records in the table, you need to resize partitions in ESX.  Also, I think that 5 + uses default TPG, but keep in mind that if it is not the case, then your picture will be limited by ESX 2 TB of usable space.  This would likely only (potentially) be a problem if you have gone to some other version 5.x.

  • Adding additional disk space to Perc 6 / i server R710

    I have currently 3 250 GB installation as a raid 5 (original configuration) disks on a server R710 with a Perc 6 / i controller.  I ordered 3 discs (same readers) that we are running out of disk space. There is a set up disk C: and D:.  Can someone point me to instructions for adding these additional disks for the raid existing (drive D) without having dataloss?

    Thank you

    Gary

    If you don't have that one 'disk' listed in disk management, then you have only a single VD configured, which is good.

    You must install OMSA to broaden your VD. You then insert your new drives, make sure that they show as ready under physical disks, then go to virtual disks and select Reconfigure to your RAID 5. Adding two drives in your RAID 5 will add about 500GB (bit math makes it a little less) to your current Windows 'disk '. After the reconfigure statement, you will have something similar to below. Then, assuming that you do not run 2003, you click on the D: drive and choose Extend to finish with the second photo:

  • disk space issues: How can I find out which components of the operating system I use is more to free additional disk space?

    HI: I have problems with disk space; I went to Windows Help and read that if I go into Add/Remove programs who said I could remove programs or components of operating system I no longer use. I remove some programs that I don't use anymore, but I do not know what operating system components I should delete!  Little help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Before you remove the services I would remove all but the most recent backup and restore point.  Then make a disk for temporary files Cleanup Wizard.  You can make you smaller file page, if you do not use put into hibernation, you can save 4-8 space gigis.

  • How I have a missing file of the system xp without a disk system

    I used (normal windows startup) sfc/scannow and was informed that I need to insert system disk to start the process.  I don't have a system disk, (using the service pk 3) my updates have been through Microsoft.  Is there a way to bypass or update (tried to fix with microsoft updates and ITMU) without the disc?

    In addition to that said Daavee, here's the 'problem '...

    If you have installed SP3 and you run sfc/scannow, it's going to need a source of files known "good" compared to what's on your system, then it wants to use your XP (default) installation CD, so if you have no genuine bootable CD to install XP with SP3 on it or use an older XP installation CD , things will be all out of whack since SC has no source file 'good' and sfc/scannow will complain - a lot.

    Most of the people do not have a true bootable CD to install XP with SP3 top (unless they did themselves) or they have never even had a XP installation CD bootable real at all, so running sfc/scannow will generally be frustrating (besides a waste of time).  If someone suggested running sfc/scannow, they probably forgot to tell you that part or they do not know how sfc/scannow works in the first place.  For me, it's similar to saying "I don't know what the problem is or how to fix it.

    If you happen to have a genuine XP bootable with a plu SP installation CD, you can use it to create a new genuine bootable XP installation CD with SP3 on it by a process called "integrated system".  Make sfc/scannow happy, but it is a separate project.

    You will usually have a good "feeling" when SFC runs without complaining, but it is unlikely your problem not specified and you are going to need a true bootable XP with SP3 top installation CD to get that good feeling, which means that you have some work to do.

    I would put that for later and for the moment, describe what your question is you think sfc/scannow will correct, unless you just practice.

  • The constant hard disk - system and DiagnosticAgent.exe wrote to 300 different activity. Files of the PNF at a constant rate - starting programs negatively impaired.

    Something similar to this began after a time, I was installing updates (somewhere in June or July). A month later, after I installed SP2 via the update, the problem presented differently (just as bad). Here's what I found recently of the reliability monitor and performance:

    -DiagnosticAgent.exe > C:/windows/inf/infcache.0 = wr 1.5 MB/min x 2 (constant) (sometimes up to 6 x)

    -System > loads of instances (~ 500) on. The files of the PNF in C:\Windows\inf\ =
    mainly writing<100kB in="" but="" some="" write="" up="" to="">
    -Diagnosticagent.exe > loads of instances (~ 500) on. The files of the PNF in C:\Windows\inf\ =
    mainly writing<100kB in="" but="" some="" write="" up="" to="">

    (total of instances of 1000 files .pnf; 300 different ones, several up to 12 instances of the same .pnf, half of them at least 4 instances of the same .pnf.)

    I don't see many cases playback from the hard drive. Even at 100% highest active time, the graph of the disc in the performance bed also monitor, an average of only 2 Mbps. When Disk Defragmenter is running, it is an average of 50 MB/s.

    This constant HDD activity about 1000 cases write in 30 minutes continuous .pnf files after startup and after awakening from sleep. While that happens, most of the programs, after loading, do not react for 5 minutes, then run as usual. Even the message control user account often fails to appear before it expires (in 2 minutes) during this time.

    I tried Googling on hdd constant activity on the PNF files, but did not find much.

    I will try using the restoration of the system again, although I had a few unsuccessful attempts with her.

    I have Norton Antivirus installed, which scans for viruses periodically. It is not really the cause of this unknown and unusual hard disk activity I know.

  • HP Envy 700 - xt desktop: How can I stop recovery of training hard and switch to disk system?

    Called Costco to get assistance from the technology with a desktop computer HP Envy. The tech asked me to do a system of hard drive recovery, even if I got recovery discs...

    The computer screen showed 100% software installation of recovery in less than two hours and the machine came into fashion "deactivate the tower."

    Problem: 'Disable lap' mode is still ongoing, and now it has been a full 6 hours and then some.

    Question #1: Can the office be manually stop to stop the process without end 'disable on tour' without harming the computer?

    Question #2: Guidance concerning such a judgment and then redo the system recovery once more, but this time with the recovery discs?

    Theoretically, the hard drive by using Recovery Manager F11 recovery should produce the same results as the set of recovery disks.  The set of recovery disks will probably replace all and then give the factory settings.  The result should be the same, however, I don't see no harm to do so.  What did you do to try to get out if "turn on, turn off"?

    On the thing to try before using the drive set - unplug the PC from the wall.  Press the power button, that would be turning on the PC if connected.  Hold button power in 30 seconds to a minute.  And then reconnect the power cord to back in and try to feed normally upward.

  • Tecra A6 - need XP disks system problem?

    I'm asking this for a friend who is not where I'm here slight inaccuracy

    A friend has a Toshiba Tecra (probably A6, but not sure). When she starts, she gets a message:

    * Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM*

    There is a Microsoft article to: [http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb; EN-US; Q307545] that describes what to do in these cried, but suppose you have access to an XP disc.

    My friend thinks that there no XP disc when she got the machine. I'm guessing that Toshiba Tecras use a recovery partition instead of providing records?

    Is this correct? If so how do modify you the instructions in the MS KB article so that they work for a Toshiba Tecra?

    Thank you

    Richard.

    Hello

    I think you should first read the user manual, before you start a question here ;)

    As you can see in the manual with the laptop is also a delivery Toshiba recovery disc. You can use it if you boot from it and follow the instructions on the screen everything that s! You return settings from factory within a few minutes.

    Alternative, you can use a Microsoft XP's disk. All drivers and tools that you need you can get on the Toshiba site.

    Good bye

  • 10.6.8 startup disk System Prefs does not route El Capitan

    I have a mid 2011 13 "MacBook Pro ("MBP").

    It worked 10.6.8

    I use SuperDuper to backup bootable external hard drive to the top.

    I have the 10.6.8 cloned system and it is bootable from an external Lacie Rugged Triple HD, connected via Firewire.

    I installed 10.11.3 on the MBP and it works fine.

    I need to boot from the 10.6.8 backup to access some files and that worked fine.

    When this 10.6.8 HD is connected via Firewire to the MBP shows up in startup disk options while it is started from 10.11.3

    But, now I want to reboot of HD in MBP 10.11.3 can't do running.

    When the startup disk is open when running 10.6.8 from the external hard drive the internal drive in the MBP 10.11.3 running does not appear as an option to restart the system.

    Y at - there a trick to getting the HD 10.11.3 appears in the startup disk?

    If not, if I just stopped the MBP and then remove the external hard drive, the MBP starts its internal HD with 10.11.3, despite the fact that I am not able to select it from the boot disk before you stop? /

    Thanks for any help in advance.

    This is because in SystemPreferences-> StartupDisk disc is not set how you want to start.

    To avoid this kind of situation when the two BONES are connected:

    Hold down the Alt (option) key during startup: it will open the "bootmenu": choose the OS disk to use.
