• Do I need the Adobe RAW plugin?

  I recently downloaded Lightroom (current version). Photographer friends tell me that I need the "Adobe RAW Plugin" to process my RAW files before using Lightroom - but they use Photoshop Lightroom not. As I read the RAW page, it seems that this feature is native in Lightroom and I don't need a separate application? I am able to open my RAW files in Lightroom and treat them. Is there a reason I don't want to use the RAW plugin too? First? Instead? I'm confused.

  This aspect causes a lot of confusion.

  • Lightroom can be used alone to manage, modify / adjust and print / export versions processed photos.
  • LR (in general) can adjust the appearance of a photo, but cannot change the content of a photo.
  • Change the photo, LR so can't do, can be outsourced to another (external) image editing program.
  • Photoshop is an example of an external editor, but there are other alternatives.
  • LR can talk either directly and "classically" a program Editor (first making a standard TIFF file for this to work and reading and then later in some changes were recorded in this)-ACR does not (completely irrelevant for this scenario);
  • OR another scenario is for LR to work with Photoshop in particular, offering few additional working methods (Adobe owner). This option is based on PS and Adobe Camera Raw, being present, in versions that are at least contemporary with LR.
  • When LR detects that this is the case, he adopts as a default method for external mounting.
  • When LR detects that this isn't the case, it greys options - for individual images: Edit in PS as smart object, or for multiple images: Edit in PS as layers / Photomerge / HDR. And he then uses only the direct method, in which ACR is not involved. Photoshop is used then not differently would have another program.

  Plug in Camera Raw has no effect on Lightroom. All Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. The only way to get things in Lightroom is upgrading to the next version.

  I subscribe to the monthly Adobe photshop/lightroom service. I can't seem to find a camera raw and how it gets linked to lightroom or photoshop, so I can use it right from those or one of these editing programs.

  LR and ACR that exact same engine use. If you have LR, you don't really need to ACR. Why are you trying to go from LR to ACR?

  There is a way around to get there, but I guess this isn't really the answer to your question. BUT just in case it is, here is how you go LR ACR.

  In LR, click the Photo > edit in > open as smart object in Photoshop

  In PS, discovers the layers panel, where you can see the image with a smart object icon

  Double-click the layer and it will open the image in ACR

  All the settings slider to LR develop module will in ACR where you can make other adaptations

• Adobe RAW with the D90 converter problems.

  OK, so this problem doesn't happen TOO often, but often enough for me and question further if all my FIRST imports are messy.

  All off first, for some STRANGE reason, whenever I open a. NEF file with my D90, it ALWAYS converts it to grayscale WITHOUT reason what-so-ever. (My D80 is fine).

  So when importing, it makes like color for a second, then converts it to greyscale... I don't know what is happening here.

  OK great, he was grayscale, now is the time to fix this? (Of an option that was NEVER put forward)

  
  Travel, when you use ViewNX you can clearly see this is NOT a problem. I really doubt that it could be my D90 because fairly simple programs like ViewNX do very well.

  Unfortunately, I don't have the JPEG of the shooting on the beach to compare directly (I was shooting RAW just this day here)
  However, this is the same setup, same process and the joint of the D90 JPEG.

  
  Finally, I use a color profile for my monitor. It was made using a Spyder 3 Elite, but I doubt how it could be a problem because I thought that Lightroom at least just used the monitor work profile. I know that it can be placed in the PS, but not in ViewNX or Picasa.

  Please help and I'm about to unistall LR2 and Photoshop, but I think that it will really help a lot...

  Mike, when you imported the naves, have you accidentally select has developed

  preset in the import dialog box that applies to the conversion to grayscale. If

  ever want to restore the default settings of LR images, simply select the images in

  the library, right-click and choose settings to develop-> reset of the

  Popup.

  The other possibility is that you have a 'default' which is camera

  applying gray conversion. It is unlikely that you could have done it

  accidentally, but despite this, you can restore the default values of the camera by going to the

  Develop module (press D key), now the Option/Alt key, and then clicking the game

  By default... button in the right panel. Then click on restore default Adobe

  Settings in the dialog box that follows.

  My computer ran a big update today and I went to make some changes more, my files will open in adobe raw as usual, but when I click on open a cc image opens, but there is no picture. My JPEG files saved opens not in cc.

  Please try and reset the Photoshop preferences.

  Steps to follow:

  To re-create the Photoshop preferences files, start the application while pressing Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or command + Option + shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop settings file?"

• Not able to open Canon 5 d raw files in Adobe Bridge/PS CS5 - of the suggestions?

  I've updated for Canon 5 d and Adobe Bridge & PS CS5 will not open the CR2 raw files.

  I installed the Adobe Raw and DNG converter 9.1.1 and rebooted my mac - still no luck.

  Any suggestions?
