Airport express to extend my wifi signal

I bought and set up the Airport express to extend a wifi signal in my house. I do not have an airport extreme as a base station - I thought I could use the express to extend the signal from my router/modem from verizon. Is this possible?

Turned it "on" now, I don't see the express network as an option in my combo network - so assuming that it will seek to expand, what's the problem with it only shows not not in the drop-down list?

The AirPort Express only wireless may extend over a network that is provided by another router from Apple.  As such, it cannot extend wireless signal router left 3rd.

Another way of saying the same thing, it's that if you want to extend wireless network using a router from Apple, you will need two routers Apple.

If you can connect the AirPort Express Terminal to your main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection, permanent, then the Express can be configured to provide additional coverage of wireless signal in this way.

  • Airport Express connects to my WiFi bridge

    Hello world

It is searched many Web pages and throughout the Apple support forums, but I still could not understand...

I bought recently Airport Express to extend my Wifi in another room and thus use it for AirPlay. My existing WiFi network is set up by the router, Asus RT - N12 (it is connected to our modem from the vendor to the scale of home - isn't available). I want to my Airport Express to work as bridge, connected to the existing network and to serve as extension and receiver airplay.

It works only when I connect Airport Express via LAN cable to the Asus router and set it as the new network. This is not convenient because it is located near the router and does not provide any additional coverage to our Wifi.

I tried to set up the base Airport Express "Extend existing network." But once set, it REQUIRES connection via cable. To connect to the existing WiFi network, there is NO other choice. This option is missing in the Airpot utility, so I can't select the Wifi to connect to.

In addition, when I connect to the Airport Express Terminal cable to the WAN port (which is our wall of our home modem), you do not find the internet connection for some reason any (while Asus has no question to do).

I'm quite desperate here. I already think to buy Airport Extreme. But I don't know if he will be able to connect to the internet for the same reason. And, it is five times more expensive. Everything else works with Asus without problems and additional parameters. iPhones, iPads, Apple TV, Android phones, Mac Pro, laptops Windows (except old 3G iPhone that says that it cannot connect to the network).

Any ideas where to look for a solution? None of the settings in our modem Asus to allow the airport as bridge recommended? And, above all, WHY is configuring lack the ability to connect to the existing Wifi network and wants to connect via cable ONLY?

    Thank you...

I want to my Airport Express to work as bridge, connected to the existing network and to serve as extension and receiver airplay.

Unfortunately, function of "extend a wireless network" Apple is an exclusive feature that has been designed by Apple for only wireless "extend" the signal of another Apple wireless router.

Or, another way of saying the same thing would be to say that, if you want to extend the wireless network, you will need two routers Apple for this purpose.

In other words, the function 'extend' is not compatible with 3rd party routers, so the only way that you will be able to get the Express at work... or any other router from Apple, incidentally... would do what you did and plug the Express using a wired Ethernet cable connection.  If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, then you can take a look at a pair of Ethernet over Powerline (EOP) adapters to eventually send the signal on power lines the existing AC in your House.

If you only want to use the AirPort Express for AirPlay, it might be possible for the Express to 'join' the wireless network... but the Express won't provide any additional wireless signal coverage by joining a wireless network.

  • How to test the signal strength of an Airport Express, which extends a network?

I am trying to understand how my Airport Express is actually help to expand my network, and if I should move somewhere different. Any help would be appreciated!

Current situation: my base station is an AirPort Extreme in our apartment computer room; for the internet, which is plugged into the wall. The wifi network is extended in the living room via an AirPort Express (version 7.6.4). There are on the same cabinet as the AirPort Express to Apple TV. The Airport Express has an optical cable connecting to a sound bar (which has an additional HDMI connection to the TV).

I don't really know if the AirPort Express Terminal, he does something useful. The network is set to be extended, best I can tell: Airport Extreme network Mode is "Create a wireless network", and network Mode of the AirPort Express is "extend a wireless network. But still, the wifi on my iPad and iPhone signal strength seem to fall much in the living room. Apple TV usually broadcasts music from my desktop computer (in the computer room) well enough, but if I try to play music from my computer via the Apple Express at the soundbar, the connection is terrible and fall. (Which could be a problem with wifi, or could be an aging Airport Express question, could be a cable problem or might be a sound bar problem...)

An example of what worries me: if I go to the Airport utility on my iPhone and a glance at the Airport Extreme, it has 4 Wireless, including Apple TV clients. But if I look at the AirPort Express, there sometimes a client wireless (iPhone), but never shows the Apple TV: even if the Apple TV is about 30 cm of the Airport Express. It's as if the 30cm distant to the Airport Express connection is weaker than the connection of two-rooms-distant Airport Extreme, but I am probably wrong that.

In any case, is there a way to test what speed is through the AirPort Express, compared to through the extreme? I tried to use applications like CloudCheck on my iOS devices, but those only measure the speed of my network, and it is unclear whether or not he uses the Extreme or Express.

Thanks in advance and all apologies if I used (almost inevitably) 'Express' when I should have used "Extreme", or vice versa, somewhere at the top.

One way to see the strength of the signal is the Alt (option) key while clicking on the WiFi icon in the menu bar.

But you see not directly related to the airport of arrival. Also the Airport utility does not give much information.

You can see a lot more with the free app (Appstore) called "WiFi Scanner".

The problem could be that the place you have chosen for the Airport Express can be better: it should be somewhere in halfway (in force) between the Real and where you sit with the iPad/iPhone.

  • How to put in place the new Airport Express to extend the current wireless WiFi U-Verse home network?

    Hello

What are the steps for the creation of a new AIRPORT EXPRESS MC414LL/A Terminal so that it make that expand my network existing wireless, using my current AT & T UVerse equipment home.  Here are the details...

    Internet service provider: AT & T U-Verse

Existing facilities: primary AT & T provided router/Modem: ARRIS NVG589 (reference 587234-004-00) that manages my house wired and wireless Wi - Fi.

PROBLEM: Does not offer full Wi - Fi coverage

SOLUTION: Attempt to add a new Terminal Airport Express so that it will extend coverage of the existing Wi - Fi network wireless.  I plan on the use of certain features such as streaming my content from iTunes to my sound, surround sound, etc Airport Express Library.

NEW FEATURE: APPLE AIRPORT EXPRESS 802.11n Wi - Fi PART # MC414LL/A

I wish I had AT & T equipment to continue to manage the Wi - Fi and network functionality (DNS, firewall, etc.), as it currently does.  However, I want to use the Airport Express to extend Wi - Fi coverage.  I already have a cable ethernet from the floor and the AT & T ARRIS NVG589.  I just need to know how to set up my new Apple Airport Express.

    Thank you!

With the Express connected to Arris gateway with Ethernet, you have the basis for a roaming network.

I would recommend that you run the AirPort Utility and allow it to run automatic installation of the Express. The utility should detect that the Express is connected by Ethernet and go through the steps to properly set up. Note: If you have made any changes to the Express since out of the box, I strongly suggest that you first perform a 'factory' reset on it to make sure that the installation went well.

  • Do I need two devices of Airport express to extend my Comcast router/modem?

Hi, can someone tell me if I need two devices Airport Express to extend the range of my wifi using a modem/router to Comcast?

It all depends on "how" you want to extend the scope of the Comcast modem/router.

IF... you can locate a single AirPort Express Terminal at the remote location where you need more coverage of wireless signal... And... connect the AirPort Express Terminal to the modem/router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection. ... THEN... the AirPort Express can be put in place to create a wireless network using the same wireless network name and password as the modem/router.  When you do this, then the modem/router and AirPort Express will act as a 'great' network with many more.

IF... you can not run the Ethernet cable from the remote AirPort Express back to the modem/router and leave only it connected all the time, then your only other option would be to use two AirPort Express devices.  An express train would be located near the modem/router and connect using a short Ethernet cable. This Express will be set to 'create' a wireless network.

The second AirPort Express Terminal can then be configured to "extend" a wireless network and wireless to repeat the signal from the first Express... assuming that the second Express is located where it can receive a strong signal first Express wireless.

  • I want to use a Terminal Airport Express to extend network provided by my Fios router/modem without going through another airport base.  Is there a way to do this?  I understand that Apple does not support this, but surely there must be a way to do this.

Can someone tell me how to set up an Airport Express Terminal to expand Network provided by my Fios router/modem without going through an airport as a base?  I understand that apple does not support this use, but my applecare Advisor said it's possible.  Thank you!

Unfortunately, your AppleCare Advisor is wrong if he or she has told you that an AirPort Express to extend wireless signal of a Fios router/modem.

Function of "Extend a wireless network" Apple is an exclusive feature that was designed by Apple engineers to extend the signal from another wireless only router from Apple. Thus, the AirPort Express... or any other router Apple besides... would not be able to extend wireless a Fios network.

SO... you have the possibility to locate the Airport Express where it is needed... And... Connect it to the Fios router/modem with a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection, then the AirPort Express can 'extend' in this way.

Or... If you are ready to add a second AirPort Express, connect the first near Fios modem/router with an Ethernet cable, then the second Airport Express could extend the signal first Express wireless.

Another way to say the same thing, is that if you want an Apple AirPort router to extend wireless network... then you need two Apple routers to achieve this goal.

  • Airport Express - to extend the wireless network

    Hello

I have 1 Airport Extreme, make a wireless network and I have 3 Airport Express, to extend the network.

the Airport Express Terminal 2 have connection whit Airport Extreme. The last of them is too far. The last of them can connect to one of the Airport Express 2 located in Pentecost Airport Extreme connection to expand further?

Sorry, but no.  The distant Express which is too far can connect to one of expresses it airport who are already extending the network... so that it can be used for AirPlay or to connect a USB printer. .. .but the distant Express cannot "extend" the wireless network and provide additional wireless coverage.

Ideally, your network could have AirPort Extreme, placed in a central location in the House, and each Express which extends the network would be located approximately the same distance from AirPort Extreme... and... ACH Express would be closer to the AirPort Extreme to another Express.

If this is not possible, then you need to look at a wired Ethernet cable solution for at least one of the Express features, or an Ethernet Powerline solution if you cannot run the Ethernet cable.

I currently have Ethernet plugged into one of the ports in the timecapse and then plugged into the Ethernet port on the Airport express

We need a little more information to be able to help – tips and tricks for airports depend on the model you have and the computer that you use to configure the airport.

Your AirPort Express look like this?

Or, your AirPort Express there than a single Ethernet port, like this?

If it has only one Ethernet port, that we need to model on the side of the unit number. It is difficult to see gray inscription on white background, so you can need good lighting and reading glasses to see clearly. The model number starts with an 'A' follow-up of four digits. Post back with that info, please.

The next point, we need to know what device you are using to configure the Express... .a mac?... a PC?... an iPad or iPhone?

If you have a Mac, we need to know what operating system they are running. If you are not sure about this, click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click on about this Mac and post back with the Version of OS X number that you see there.

Finally, we assume that you have tested the Ethernet cable that will connect to the time Capsule to the location of the AirPort Express Terminal by connecting a computer or laptop to the Ethernet cable temporarily, turn off WiFi and checking to make sure that you get a good connection Internet in this way. If you can, then the cable works fine.  If you can't get a good connection, then you will need to resolve things first, before you can try to plug the AirPort Express Terminal.

  • Can I use an old station Airport Express to extend your network using a new Airport Express Terminal?

I had an old Airport Express station and wanted to exchange for a newer version and use the old ones to expand the range in our House. Is this possible?

By 'old' are you referring to the AirPort Express (model A1084) to 802.11 g? If Yes, then you won't be able to use it to extend the latest Express with a wireless connection between them.

However, you can use it in a roaming network configuration, which would force base stations to be connected by Ethernet.

  • Airport Express to extend

I have an existing using a Belkin ADSL2 + 4 port modem and a Double N + Router Belkin Wireless.  These are both located in my study.

My House is wired so that it has two ethernet ports in the wall of the study that point to other parts of the House - one for the living room on the ground floor and one in the living area upstairs.

The wireless signal in the lounge downstairs is okay, but not much.  Upstairs, he's weak.  Wanted to improve the signal throughout my house, so I bought two Airport Express units.

Initially, I plugged an Airport Express into my living room via Ethernet DRC and it seemed to work.  The signal in this area seems to improve, but I don't have all the numbers to back up this feeling.

Then I plugged the second Airport Express Terminal on my floor living room via Ethernet and now, it doesn't seem to work properly.  The signal on the floor is certainly not improved.

Any ideas?  Maybe I did not give sufficient information at this stage, but I don't know what could be relevant.

    Thank you

Initially, I plugged an Airport Express into my living room via Ethernet DRC and it seemed to work.  The signal in this area seems to improve, but I don't have all the numbers to back up this feeling.

We must first check that the AirPort Express in the area downstairs is working properly until we can address the issue with the first floor of the AirPort Express. Please be patient with this process, there will be additional questions based on the answers to the first two questions below.

    (1) where this airport located Express regarding the Belkin modem/router?  In other words, how far from the Belkin device is the AirPort Express Terminal?  How many walls or other obstacles between the Belkin device and the Express down?

    (2) only the low AirPort Express provide a signal of wireless network that uses the same wireless network name and password as the Belkin modem/router...or...does AirPort Express Terminal provides a network that uses a different wireless network name?

    (3) you have Mac laptop which allows you to check some network settings?

Which version of AirPort Utility?   If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility and click on the menu of AirPort Utility in the upper left of the screen. Then click on the utility AirPort post back with the version number that you see there.

Is the Terminal AirPort Express 802.11n have an Ethernet port, or both?

Is the existing WiFi provided by another Apple AirPort router?

You try to get the AirPort Express to connect to the network using a Wi - Fi?... or... the AirPort Express will connect using wired Ethernet wired, permanent access to the existing wireless router?

  • Airport express to extend wi - fi using the adapter but NOT extreme airport

    Hello

I am looking to buy an express airport in order to listen to music through my stereo and also create another network wireless upstairs in my house.

My question is, I currently have no apple down wireless router and I have connected to a line adapter with an adapter of the power line on the floor. If I connect the airport express base station to the adapter on the floor, I'll be able to create another network on the floor as well as the flow of my music, even if the router that comes from the connection is not apple router?

    Thank you

    Andy

If the floor of the Airport Express will be connected via the WAN port using a regular power adapter ethernet cable carrier online and will be in Bridged mode, you can create a wireless network to the floor. Not bridged mode, you can see double-NAT issues, which should be avoided.

  • can I use airport express to extend the range of my Airport time capsule

I want my airport express (model 1382) to be subordinated to the time capsule (ver. 7.7.3) and I'm on a different network. Is this possible?

Do not know what you mean by 'subordinate' here... and you do not specify if the AirPort Express terminal connects to the Capsule using a permanent, wired Ethernet cables... or... If you want to try to have the AirPort Express to connect wireless to the time Capsule.

The method cable would be far superior to the method wireless in terms of performance and 'slide' on the Time Capsule wireless.

You also did not indicate what device... a Mac, an iPhone / iPad, etc that you want to use to configure the AirPort Express Terminal.

So, when we have more information, we can provide you with an accurate answer to your question.
