• VUM 6.0, replacement of SSL certificates

  VCSA device (6.0) external PSC

  VCenter VCSA device (6.0)

  VUM 6.0 (1 x R2 Windows 2012 running SQL 2014 and 1 x R2 Windows 2012 with VUM installed)

  Open root SSL and subordinate CA

  I replaced the certificates for the PSC with no problems, the VC and the hosts are all good :-)

  To replace the VUM SSL certificates, I followed KB 1023011 and replaced the self CERT signed with certificates signed by a subordinate CA OpenSSL. When I open the VI client and activate the VUM plugin I get a certificate error. If I open the PFX and import it into my personal cert store the complete chain, subordinate and root is here, and all are approved. If I navigate over https to another server where I replaced the SSL certificate with the one that was signed by the same CA browser isn't moaning.

  Issues related to the:

  1. the error indicates that my PC does not trust the cert or vCenter does not support the cert?

  2. If it is likely that the vCenter is not to trust the cert how to install the CA certificate root in the keystore on the vCenter? The PSC has already he is and trust her, otherwise she would not distribute certs kindly signed to esxi hosts.

  3. the cert that was issued for MUV has the VUM server's dns name in the part of the cert SAN but not in the issued to. Who is likely to be a problem?

  Today, I bought an external SSL certificate of DigitCert for our security server. I imported the certificates in the personal certificate (computer account) on the Security Server store. DigiCert provided three certificates, root CA, CA server and the other with the name of our domain. I renamed the vdm to the friendly name of the existing self-signed certificate and used the friendly name for the certificate vdm has our domain name.   I solved it. It was with the private key of the certificate. This is the reason that the Blast Secure Gateway could not load.

  Having a strange problem on my site. With the latest version of Firefox 36, whenever I try to download a file of type doc or pdf, I get the following error:

  The connection to the server was reset while the page is loading.

  It works on all other browsers and previous versions of firefox. This also works if the page does not use https. We checked on the SSL certificates and they are up-to-date. I'm just puzzled at the way in which certain types of files cause this problem.

  I've recently upgraded to vcenter 5.1 U1a successfully.

  I'm following VMware articles and a popular blog to prepare and run the certificate VMware 1.0 automation tool.

  Everything was pretty smooth up until I have to replace the the vcenter Server SSL certificate.  Option 2 vcenter update ssl.  See the attached photo.

  After the error, my vcenter service will not start.

  I tried to reset the password of database using vpxd.exe - p, but vcenter still does not start.

  I also checked that the correct service ID is matched between vpxd.cfg and LS_ServiceID.prop.

  Stuck at this point.  I have since went instant return, but try to see if anyone has any suggestions?

  Could this be type a bad password?

  Steps to follow:

  1. stop the vCenter service

  2. search for your ID in LS_ServiceID.prop in the folder C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter

  3. copy this ID (e.g. {C4672589-9258-42B1-90E2-1EF268BBD402}: 5 )

  4. change your vpxd.cfg in the same folder and replace

  vCenterService

  with

  your ID

  5. start vCenter Service

  Then, the SSL automation tool works!

  You need to undo changes.

• Repeated errors of SSL certificate after upgrade to FF36

  It seems as if all the sites that I visit that uses the https protocol requires a certificate exception. This is not correct. I'm a developer with 5 different browsers installed on my dev machine. Only FF has this problem.

  Worse still, if I create an exception (I have not to keep doing this), I lose all the CSS and images on the site, which makes them unusable. And if the sites I need to see are unusable so FF.

  I much prefer the user interface of FF and I find generally more sensitive than Chrome. But now I have to use Chrome. Visit this page.

  Philip you were bang on! I didn't know that FF was its own proxy settings. A lot of software takes parameters of Internet Explorer in Windows. I should guess, although I still do feel unfamiliar with the new UI options in FF (which feels like an improvement but I'm still a little lost with it, is seems!).

  Now, I guess my next question is what changed the proxy setting. After thinking about this subject for a short period while I realize a violin does.

  It would be nice to see this information displayed on error pages certs, as well as the issue of the time. I think it would help a lot of people and save time!

  Boy, I was upset with FF the other day. Thanks for fixing that. It has not been caused by the FF and there was an underlying reason caused by other software.
