Any missing? (Catalogs, previous import)

Hello everyone and happy new year (not for me)...

Today, I open Lightroom, and I was struck with the most surprising and frustrating experience ever (it never happened to me in any version of Lightroom)

It's like I'm running Lightroom for the first time, I had installing mobile connect (I had already done a few weeks ago), no. COLLECTIONS, CATALOGUES No., no. IMPORTS EARLIER, IMPORT PATHS etc...

Now the 'strange' thing is that I went to check the Module Development, and I am indeed a few custom filters / settings I created in my recent sessions.

I also checked the paths of catalogue in the Menu Edition, and the path is correct and equipped according to the files. However, when I try to open the catalog file, it just does nothing. Nothing happens, zit.

I am quite techy name so I can really bring some deeper explanation, nor have any techy knowledge from which to draw ideas.

I remember that there was an update recently, but can't recall if I opened Lightroom without these aforementioned issues after the update, or if it's the first time, this is why some problem happen with my update.

I have also (with deep regrets) gave a windows 10 update a few weeks ago and quickly returned to the original windows 8.1 (Viva Vaio!) But also do not remember if I run Lightroom and did not have this problem... I would say I did, and of course, everything was fine.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I have hundreds of photos in several collections with their corresponding color labels, settings, etc... which disappeared currently.

Thank you and... well... blahblah new year again.

I save my catalog file in a folder named catalog 6 Lightroom (and my 5 catalog in another file called Catalog 5 Lightroom LR) on my D drive which is a partition separate from my main 500 GB SSD. Then the backups for each major version of LR that I installed is in folders named Lightroom (number) backups on my E drive which is another physical standard spinning HARD drive. Then everyone gets backed one of my external hard drives and SSD that hold the OS and program files is imaged and stored on another drive HARD physics and then backed one of my external hard drives. Redundancy is the key to not lose data.

To install a new version of Windows on top of an existing version is never a good idea. I did this once in the 1990s, and I would never do it more.

I have my main disk image. Wipe it Clean. Install the new OS and then all my programs. I then copy all my data over my external backup drives and or one of the other internal drive that I had unplugged before making the OS install.

  • Lightroom 5.7: import, doesn't remember the previously imported photos

I had this problem for a while, long enough so that I don't remember in which version it was the behavior surfaced.

In short, during the import (for example, an SD card) and on the map are the pictures which had been previously imported, LR selects not only photos that are new (in other words, was not imported).

I changed my behavior to remove the SD card after I have confirmed that the photos have been saved (for off-site storage) so I don't have to deal with him on the road, but nevertheless, I prefer the appropriate behavior.

Any ideas?   I've upgraded to el capitan with the latest updates.

    Thank you

    Mark

no difference between "all photos" and "new pictures".

Yes, it tells me that all the images shown in the grid are selected for import. That is your problem.

"All pictures/New Photos" are only a choice as thumbnails of all images on the site of the 'Source' ' show/hide '.

And you always have the option checked for - "don't import suspected duplicates?

And you always let Lightroom enough time to check your complete catalog to determine whether "duplicates" exist already by a previous import.

Is it possible that changing the names of files and metadata on previously imported files prevents LR to determine that there is a "double".  (A LR guru could answer this question!)

I've never known your problem because I always download camera card and the camera allows re - format the card before using it next. So my cards still have only 'new' images.

  • How can previous import - I sort the files in this folder?

    Hey there!

On another laptop of mine I exported a 3500 pictures of catalog folder and copied on my main folder PC that they belong (photos/holidays/Japan, etc.).

I then imported the FichierCatalogue exported from that folder in Lightroom. Now the photos appear in the folder "previous import." But I want to do... images/holidays etc as on the hard drive.

But I can't figure out how. Lightroom gives me the opportunity to make a new folder and move (means: copy) files in it. But that would be foolish, because already there are where they belong.

    How can I solve this?

Then of course, clocking was the wrong thing to do and probably made the situation worse. You now have what is called "a true mess" on your hand.

I don't know what is the best solution for recovery.

If you have a recent backup of the main catalog to your PC file, which restore and then we can work through the process of importation in such a way that avoids these problems.

If you do not have a recent backup of the main catalog to your PC file... Well... it's kind conjecture that I have never been in this situation... perhaps someone else has a smarter idea... when... first, make a backup of the catalog as it exists, even if it has problems... then you can delete the photos that you have synced now have no changes or metadata with them. Then try to import the catalog from your laptop and stop when it's over and we can discuss it further. This should make us return to where you were when you posted your first message; does not synchronize.

  • Spend PSE10 to PSE12 - catalog not imported?

I am considering an upgrade of PSE10 to PSE12, so I downloaded the demo of PSE12.  However, despite the use of my catalog PSE10 converted, I still find that PSE12 made use of the catalog.  It seems like if I imported the photos just and let it boot into a new catalog.  Am I missing something?  Here's what I did:

    • I downloaded and installed PSE12.
    • Initially, I was converted no catalog, I imported just a few test photos.  But then I deleted all those newly created catalog.
    • Then, I went in the Catalog Manager and converted my 12 000 photos PSE10 catalog.  After that, it shows that the current catalog in Catalog Manager.
    • Then, I imported my photos 12 000.

But, as I said, I see no evidence that the book is used at all:

    • I lost the hierarchy of tags.
    • In the list of tags, it only shows the tags that I wrote in the file in PSE10.  I only did this for all the photos, there are tags in PSE10 which do not appear.
    • I don't see ratings on these photos where I wrote the file metadata in PSE10.
    • Many of my photos have an incomplete date (year only, for example).  These show in PSE10, I walked in them.  But these dates never download written in the file, and of course, these pictures show a date edit or something, not the date that I assigned in PSE10.  Again, the catalog info is not used.
    • These small boxes around faces... all names are missing.

    I have a Windows 7 64-bit machine.

Should I wait for the above items appear in PSE12?  Or I do not have something I need to do?

    Thank you

The normal procedure would have been to let PSE12 convert your catalog in effect automatically. That would have left the old avalaible catalog PSE10 and created a new in the PSE12 format. Not to do so is not a problem, since you can begin the process to convert manually. Now the default catalog in PSE12 is a void: he had imported your test photos, then you deleted the.

    • Then, I went in the Catalog Manager and converted my 12 000 photos PSE10 catalog.  After that, it shows that the current catalog in Catalog Manager.

Good. If this catalog is not only the highlighted (marked "current"), select it and press the button 'open '.  You should have found everything, including your tags and categories of hierarchies, albums, games, legends, sides etc version.

    • Then, I imported my photos 12 000.

Big problem! You don't need to import anything after a conversion of catalogue. The new catalog contains the paths to all your image files already catalogued. I suspect that you were not in the converted catalog, but always in the catalog to the default empty new PSE12.

But, as I said, I see no evidence that the book is used at all:

It is the result of importing files in a new catalog.

What you need to do in Catalog Manager: get an another catalog not marked as 'in progress': highlight it and click on 'open '.

If this does not work, you can always try to convert the old catalog again. Be sure to check the box for "see the already converted catalogs. Let the conversion processed. Select the converted catalog (should be listed under the "common" name in Catalog Manager).

  • Change the Date Format for the previously imported items

Hi, I'm a newbie to Lightroom with 3.3 being my first experience.  I looked in quite a few threads looking for my question, so I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before.

I have recently imported/moved 45 GB of pictures in my library and changed the Format of the Date in the way that I thought that I would - I was wrong.  I imported using this format:

    2011-02-02

So, I have hundreds of folders listed as:

    2011 02-02 148 (pics)

    2011-02-03 2 (pics)

    2011-02-15 15 (pics)

    2011-03-01 1 (pic)

    2011-03-02 30 (pics)

    etc...

I would like to look like her to have folders roots with the years, months and days then.  I guess I need to format:

    2011/2011-02-02

Say that it's the right format I expected to have imported with, is there a way to change this without having to delete the catalog and import it back all my photos?

    Thanks for your time

If you want the same files under a folder parent 2011 instead of all at the same level?  You can add the 2011 folder and then drag and drop in the files LR Panel to pull those records in there.

If you want years then month then the days you want the one with all the slashes - 03/02/2011

That said, it's not like you're shooting a lot, then I'd go to this subject a little differently if you have piles of records to settle.  I have a folder of 2011 and simple month folders in this (01, 02, something like that) and then I would use metadata filters to find all the photos of January and drag the photos themselves in January record and repeat for the other 11 months.  Once you have done this, you can remove empty folders of day.  For small numbers, I wouldn't worry about breaking it down into a folder per day, so in the import dialog box in the future I would just select 2011/02.  You like.

If you have changed pictures in LR yet, it would be quicker to start a new catalog and re-import and leave the LR to move them into your chosen folder structure.

  • Missing files when importing files in LR5.2 catalog on OS Mavericks

Hi, I hope someone may be able to help me.

I'm running LR5.2 on Mavericks and I find that when I import the content of one of my discs containing 1 TB of images arranged in folders and subfolders, files that many of these images are missing from the catalog, even if they are certainly still on the drive I am importing of.  When the synchronization of the catalogue, or the items it contains, it will say there are thousands of files to synchronize.  When I then sync, it will go through the motions up to 10 minutes, telling me his complete, but at the end of the day, will not import these files.  I have this same drive cataloged in LR4 on my work MacBook Pro under Mountain Lion & all files are visible on this.

Any ideas what going on?  Could this be a problem of incompatibility with the Mavericks? Or something weird in my settings?  Shoul be I re - install LR?

    Thanks in advance,

    Craig

Out of curiosity, when you synchronize you show the import dialog box? I noticed the other day that I didn't show the import dialog box when I synchronzied to add folders, Lightroom did not appear to actually add the images. But when I tried again and crossed the import dialog box, it appeared. Wasn't sure if it was the stroke of luck or a bug.

  • Virtually all of the files are missing after you import the catalog.

I'm NOT sure that has nothing to do with lightroom, except that yesterday my files were all there, now, they are absent.  It could be a hard disk failure.  Its just strange that it affected only the files that I tried to interfere in my lightroom catalog today.

Well as out of town, I pulled a few thousand photos and them ingested on a daily basis in a new lightroom catalog that I created on my laptop.  Files imported into a USB external drive.  The laptop is win 10.  It is on the latest version of lightroom, CC.  Yesterday, everything was going well with the catalog, disk, and files.  All were there.  The catalogue and the photos were on the same drive.  The laptop was listed as the letter 'g ':

Once I went back to the office today, I wanted to import pictures to my largest catalog on my desktop.  I have used this external hard drive for all my new photos in 2016.  On this PC, Win 10, the letter of the external drive is also "X:".  I started lightroom in my big catalogue very well.  I chose to import from a different catalog, accessed my X Catalogue outside in the car and started importing without a copy of the files.  This should leave the files in the same location.  It took a little more time I expected to import this catalog.  When I went to the structure of folders inside lightroom, it seemed that all the files have been imported correctly.  But there was a "?" from the folder.  I assumed that I just needed to do a "find" on the X drive as I thought that my lightroom catalog could have been pointing to the G drive.  Locate, but cannot find the files.  I've used windows explore to browse my files and the folders and files were all missing, with the exception of a folder where I shot some photos with a camera, about 100 photos in all.  Thousands of photos from other cameras were all absent.

So next time, I ran a scan disk and windows came with a message of repair.  The repair said that it worked successfully.  But I looked in the Explorer, the files were still missing.  I ran a scan disk again and no error found.

I looked in the trash on the desktop and there is no files on this disc.  If the missing files are still missing.  I had not saved the files yet since they were really vacation photos and have no critical and since I was going to save them after that I spent in review on the workstation.  Some are still on the cards and could be retrieved.  But I formatted my main map at least a couple of times and I'm afraid that most would have been crushed and is more viable, even using the card recovery software.

Before you begin importing today, I don't check the disk to make sure that all my files were there.  There is no error in windows at startup and I don't mind just to check in Explorer or open the 'new' catalog first.

    1. Could Lightroom have somehow deleted files and can they be retrieved?
    2. Assuming that it was a Windows / hard drive error, can anyone recommend a program attempt to recover files lost like that?  Given that the entire folders, sound also lack if the index of the obtained partially erased disc.  But maybe the files are still there.  Then there is a program to search for them?

Note that the other files on this drive all seem to be good.  The only missing are import of today.

It is drive X:, but the files are not there.
    portable version is 2015.6

    Desktop version is 2015.5

Somehow, the windows removed them.  I use EaseUS data recovery to retrieve them.  He had no problem finding the files.  So I guess we can mark this resolved.

  • Export a collection of catalog and import into the catalog of my work on my iMac, color labels are missing.

During my project for my photography class, I have to shoot on site and edit the best photos with the model, on my MacBook. At home on my MacBook I export the collection newly created to a catalog (including negative files), copy the directory with the catalogue all the other files over the network and import the catalog into my standard catalog on my iMac. On my iMac, all the imported photos color labels went into my standard catalog, and very strange, color labels have also disappeared when I open the catalogue exported (and copied) on my iMac. Did I miss something?

I don't think it's something to do with the copy over a network.

My guess is that you have to look at metadata > color label set. Try to compare the settings on both computers. If they are different, a computer do not know what the other means red, yellow etc.

  • Lack of previous import and quick tabs Collections

I hope I can explain it - I recently moved from PC to Mac.  I reinstalled lightoom and imported all my images from a backup. Everything works fine.  I just noticed that I have not meaningless files import and Collections fast display in Control Panel.

I have Navigator - files (where all my images appear) and Collections

I can save to quick collections and show the quick collection in the menu drop-down. I looked in all the setting and display options.  What the devil was I wrong!

    Smathia,

What you miss is the section "Catalogue" of the left panel. Right-click (ctrl-click for mac) in any other heading of section and check the 'catalog '.

  • Any missing files in iTunes library

Let me start by saying this: I used to work for Apple in the store. I know that the software and the beautiful products well (it has been a few years since then), but I was never a genius. I do not do things that will eventually be glitch the operating system.

    Here's the problem:

    • When I started using iTunes, I unchecked "copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" that I didn't like the way iTunes duplicated my files of music (unnecessarily taking more space), as well as their sorting system.
      • Therefore, all my files are simply located in my "Music" folder I recognize that there is a problem when it comes with that.
    • I met the problem with iTunes, in which he cut off the ends of a fair few of my songs. The only way to solve this problem is to create a new library. I decided to import my old one because I didn't lose my plays and reading lists, once again (I had this problem before and simply started again, at the same time the simplest solution).
    • I didn't have enough space on my Macbook so I used a drive hard portable 1 TB to consolidate files and export of the library as a selection. I managed to import into a new library, and the songs that had been cut played in its entirety. Perfect! First problem solved.
    • However, each of my files is now 'missing' (exclamation points) - this is ~ 4 700 music files. As a result guests to locate missing files, iTunes fails every time to find any other ones in a similar situation.

Is there a way to locate the missing files en masse, since I do not have an iTunes Media folder (it is empty)?

Is there a way to locate the missing persons file by ALBUM (which is how I got together in the artist file)? It sucks, but it sucks less than having to locate the 4 700 music files manually one by one.

Any help is very appreciated. I feel that I googled this to the ends of the Earth with no luck.

iTunes will attempt to move the files en masse - but only if it has been set to organize media. If you have disabled that iTunes can't / don't try to find others.

If this problem only somewhere between points 3 and 4 above?  "Consolidate" has a very special meaning with iTunes as an action done iTunes and to consolidate you need iTunes using preferences default to the Organization and to copy media.  At this point in your description I start losing track of what it was exactly you did and when things started does not. It is not just a matter of practice that need to be turned on before you start iTunes is it?

  • I did a major photo cleaning in the Mac Finder, and now have a lot of photos not coupled in Lightroom 6. Can I start a new catalog and import from the Finder now-cleaned? Thank you!

What do you mean by 'photo cleaning?

Your photos are not 'in' Lightroom, the pictures are on the hard drive and referenced by Lightroom.

If you did that move the folders autour, simply tell LR where you move them to in the folders Panel.

If you have moved around individual files, simply tell LR where you moved their library in the grid.

Import a second time, it is almost always the right answer to each question. However, if you really want to do this, you can create a new catalog (menu/file/new) and do an import using the option 'Add '. Note that this will lose all your changes to previous photo.

I need to migrate my outlook2000 SENT e-mail messages, running on Win2000 for Thunderbird 32 on my new desktop with Win8.1. To my great joy, the Inbox automatically populated with a configuration of pop3 TB32. I need email "sent" since for my small business in order to find and refer to the emails. You can open the emails but you can browse or search on "subject" or "to" the way it is. Any ideas to try?

Hey, I got it fixed. Someone told me to migrate outlook to outlook express (included with Windows 2000) who transferred the subjects and the team of specialists. Then using TB12 I imported to outlook express, and everything was there. To transfer messages sent from TB12 to win8.1 TB32, I selected all sent and press success "saveas" under the file menu. This has created each message in an .eml file that I was drag to the folder sent on TB32 machine. Perfect.
