  You posted this in the forum so essbase I'll just down the same, as I did it.

  I'll come back down the road to windows 2003 because it is a supported operating system, XP is not supported even if it may be possible to install it on it.
  In view of that experience have been trying to install 11.1.1 is certainly worth a try to choose an operating system that is supported as a starting point.

  I'm working on a project to upgrade current database from 12.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.2 in server (6.4) of Linux.

  There are a couple of database running against oracle current home (/ opt/oracle/product/12.1.0)

  I run a Setup program and install the oracle in opt/oracle/product/12.1.0.2, I am planning to use it my new ORACLE_HOME.

  now the last step is to run the root.sh script to complete the installation,

  #./root.sh

  Operation of the user root.

  The following environment variables are defined as:

  ORACLE_OWNER = oracle

  ORACLE_HOME = /opt/oracle/product/12.1.0.2

  Enter the full path of the local bin directory: [/ usr/local/bin]:

  Yes you can choose to replace - this will copy new versions of the dbhome and other executables in/usr/ocal/bin which are backward compatible with earlier versions. The rewriting process does not change or interfere with existing databases or software.

  As a general rule, if you intend to use the products in commerce, you must pay for a license, otherwise you illegally use.

  This is usually described in the T & C that you agree to when you download the software.

  On XP virtual machine (a criterion), which I normally attribute 800 M Ram, I installed 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g and database XE and same server forms & States and Developer suite.

  All work at the same time, of course.

  1. install 11.1.1.6 on your WLS app development Runtime.
  2. create a field and, possibly, the servers managed
  3. apply patches to install ADF 11.1.2.3

  From the release notes:
  ADF 11 g Release 2 must be installed as a patch on top of a 11.1.1.6.0 existing installation execution of Application development. The steps in the upgrade 11.1.1.6.0 server to run 11.1.2.0.0 ADF applications is described later in these release notes and documented in the Guide to the administrator for Oracle Application Development Framework.   and I tried C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server
  
  but I get errors that says, more or less, I have to choose the right paths. So, I'm not able to install the demos...

  It is unlikely that you will be able to install and use these demos

  As the issue of the oracle user "echo $ORACLE_HOME"--> that it returns?

  Make sure that ORACLE_HOME is set to 10g ORACLE_HOME as follows:

  -Login as user oracle
  -Issue ' export ORACLE_HOME =<10g oracle_home="">"- or the source of the file under the 10g ORACLE_HOME env".
  -Change to the companion directory
  -Run the installer, and then select "Oracle Database 10 g products»--deuxieme option if I remember correctly
