application rundll32.exe not found application not found __updspapi.dll
I have two problems at the moment.
The first occurs if I try to open most of the icons in my Control Panel then I get the message: application not found c\windows\system32\rundll32.exe.
The second issue is when I try to run a file I am asked to select a program to run it: installation of windows service pack and then get the message: application could not start because updspapi.dll is not found.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

File rundll32.exe missing
Hello! My problem is that whenever I turn on my computer, I get the error message saying that the file c:windows\system32\rundll32.exe is missing... while booting and I get an error popup saying my firewall prot. is turned off... my automatic updates is OFF... it's just a waste.
I bought my BB laptop and Windows XP was already installed so I don't have a CD available. Is there another way? Please email VERY much appreciated! Thank you
I have two solutions for this:
1 - C:\Windows\System32 if you can't find rundll32.exe go to C:\Windows\winsxs
and search for rundll32.exe if found copy in C:\Windows\System32
Note: display of file Extensions must be enabled in the browser, organizing options
2 - Use another computer with the same version of xp and a flash drive copy C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe in the other computer to C:\Windows\System32 in your computer

Rundll32.exe and CryptSvc constantly crashing on windows 7
Hello guys, hope you can lend a hand with this.
I have a desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - quad processor. He installed the SP1. I recently updated several files of windows and now I'm getting a lot of appcrashes of the rundll32.exe.
I noticed that the cryptographic service is the culprit causing rundll32 crash messages. Apparently, the CryptSvc service's stop and start and stop start - constantly. He did more than 100 times, and it happens every few seconds to a few minutes. I disabled this service manually, but the problem persisted.
I don't know which is the problem. The CryptSvc does not work properly? Or is something to play with this service? Why the CryptSvc began after I disabled it?

Hey Tushar,
I ran the clean boot and the things that you suggested, but I still have a very hard time. I decided to back up all my data and do a complete reformat and reinstall Windows 7. Back up took forever, because the system was very slow and my external hard disk transfer speeds were below 1 MB a second. Finally I saved everything I could and after reformatting the computer to the boot prompt told me that the hard drive was SMART status BAD and able. I decided to continue the resettlement and the system has worked, except saying that the CHIP was bad on the hard drive.
I decided to install a new hard drive and it works fine, no problem.
So, I think that the problem was in the system files, as the issues had disappeared when I reinstall the OS.
Well... thank you for your help and your time.

How can I fix it so I can delete unwanted programs? I try to open most of the icons in my control panel, I can get the message: application not found c\windows\system32\rundll32.exe.
Please press Crtl + Alt + Delete key on the keyboard. Now, you will get a new manager called tasks window.
Now, please hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard and click file, new task on the Task Manager. Now, you will get a new black window. Copy the following and paste it into the black command window and press ENTER. Restart the computer.

Original title: rundll.exe error
I checked the previous messages and can't seem to find a solution to this problem. Recently I ran 3 different scans, i.e. sbybot, avast and Malawarebytes virus. After that I ran these anti-virus programs and remove viruses, I was not able to open any more virus scanners. Every time I tried, would open a window saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file." If I try to download a new virus scanner, it says the same thing.
When I try to open the Control Panel, add or remove programs, a window appears saying "C:Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found. I checked this file on my c: drive\system 32 and see the rundll.exe file. I also copy and pasted the file rundll.exe my CD of Windows XP in c: Windows\System32
Everything else seems to work fine on my computer, and I get no message on the rundll.exe file when the computer starts up first.
Any help would be popular!

Error messages occur now - seem to appear now, after I did a Defrag. If I try to open AOL, it brings me to a display list who wants to choose from a list of programs. For AOL, I click on AOL. I didn't used to have to select from a list of display. Then I tried to open an Astrology program and it took me to the same list, which of course is not. Now, I get the same error as follows: C:Windows/system32/rundll32.exe - Application not found - OK
Here's a Plan:
Goto, start system restore restore Menu\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System
Now select the oldest Restore Point and restore your computer, but first make sure that you have an external drive.
After that C:\Windows\System32\Rundll32.exe copy the external drive and the disc is ejected
Open the system restore and undo restore
After the undo operation is copy the Rundll32.exe in the road to C:\Windows\System32
and the problem solved
Note: the rundll32.exe should be missed recently and you should have an old Restore Point which contains a file Rundll32.exe Intact

I had the virus ' Vista Internet Security 2010 "deleted using McAfee, but now I can't start my programs and browsers because I see the error:"application not found"for C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe" ".

When I try and open any application on my PC, I get the error message "choose a program to open this file with. I have not even that by trying to open the cmd window or all the apps in the control panel. I think I have a virus, but can not run any antivirus programs as they all won't open no - needs an application to open it with. I can not open IE. I copied the file rundll32.exe from another machine, but that has not solved the problem. I had the "XP security Suite" virus which I have tried to clean with the help of several anti-virus software. Can anyone help?
Using Windows Explorer, try to navigate to \Windows\System32, right-click on cmd.exe, then choose open. If that doesn't work try to use the command.com program. Now, type assoc .exe = exefile and press ENTER. You may have to restart the computer.
Then run MBAM.

Occurs when you try to get on the internet with Internet Explorer, and many of my programs give the same error message when you try to open them. Some will be always open, but most will not.
Hi FermanHowell,This problem occurs because of a missing or corrupted Rundll32.exe file. This problem can also be caused by a virus. To resolve this issue, follow the steps listed in the article below: -
I recently had just some malware on my Vista saying that it was infected and that it had been hijacked, but I just ignored and finally got rid of him, but now that I managed to get rid of it none of my executables will be run and the touchpad scroll my mouse touch (I have a laptop) now no longer works. And I can't access settings of the mouse because whenever I try an error pops up saying that the Rundll32.exe is missing. In any case, the malicious software that I've been having troubled by claimed to be Vista (don't remember if the next word was security or anti-virus) - but it was called Vista? 2010, Vista Security 2010 thing. However, I can never remember install such a file, and I don't have no automatic updates so if I got something like that Microsoft it would at least go back to 2009, if not 2008.
You obviously put a lot of work into this response, but the OP will not be able to run any executable at this stage and your malware removal steps are incorrect. The only part you're right was that the OP has been infected by a rogue security program (not ' red').
For "spread anonymously:
First use Doug Knox fix for .exe association:
http://www.dougknox.com/XP/file_assoc.htm
Then follow the steps below to make sure that the computer is clean:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antivirus-Vista-2010
These can work for you, and all can be good. However, in many cases the computer will also infected with other horses of Trojan and protected by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean. If your machine is one of these cases, either the interactive assistance to one of the specialty forums listed in the link below, OR take your machine to a professional on the local computer OR backup your data and do a clean install of Windows. It's your choice. I do not recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places.
