As a router WRT54GS cascading with IP fixed address block

Hello

I read several threads on the routers in cascade and the Knowledge Base, but none seems to fix my script with a router with fixed IP address block.

My current setup is an ADSL circuit with a block of 8 fixed IP addresses. Of them the first xx.xx.xx.137 is assigned to interface the router, the second xx.xx.xx.138 for the router itself WAN xx.xx.xx.139/140/141/142/143 leaving as usable IP addresses. Connected to the ADSL circuit is that a D-Link DSL-G604T router with NAT disabled to allow IP addresses to be assigned to my web servers and ftp. Of course, DHCP is disabled on the LAN interface.

Unfortunately, the transmitter wireless on this router is defective so I would my Linksys WRT54GS (Firmware v1.50.6) D-Link router cascade so that I can use it (with active DHCP) as a point of access for multiple wireless devices.

This thought through to logically I've named WAN 54GS with one of the xx.xx.xx.140 to static IP address available, a subnet mask 255.255.255.248 and the door entry xx.xx.xx.138. I left the LAN settings like the beach 192.168.1.xxx and DHCP active. I then connected the interface WAN of the 54GS to one of the LAN connections on the D-Link with a straight ethernet cable.

I can connect to the admin 54GS via a direct ethernet connection and wireless interface but not to the internet.

I can ping that is the xx.xx.xx.140 of the interface wan of the 54GS since a laptop computer connected wireless but not the IP address of the gateway of the network xx.xx.xx.138. D-Link router.

Am I missing some other settings in the router. Especially in the routing section advanced? I guess that the device must be set to a router rather than the bridge, but if there are parameters of dynamic routing?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks Brickmonkey,

Just thought I would update this post. I tried from you suggestions, but to no avail. The frustration I did a hard reset of the router D-Link and set it up again from scratch and... Hey presto it now works.

I can only think that there may have been some settings left from when the router has been initially implemented for Nat and I had configured port forwarding. In any case it now works OK then thank you very much for your answer.

  • Setting up Port Forwarding on router WRT54G, working with a WVC54GCA Wireless CAmers

I have the equipment in question and you need to know a few things when it come to put in place for Internet access. Before I aske the question, however, I have the following IP addresses associated with this project: WVC54GCA - 192.168.2.102, router WRT54G - 192.168.2.1, the questions are:

    1. How do you define Port Forwarding on every element.
    2. Should the two articles have static IP addresses.
    3. Once the port forwarding is set, what is the structure of the URL to access the camera?

Any help would be appreciated, summer tear my hair on it. Seems simple, but obviously not. I'm missing something.

    Thank you

For port forwarding, you will first need to set the camera to a fixed LAN IP address (static).

If your router uses the range of 192.168.2.100 thanks 192.168.2.149 DHCP servers, then 192.168.2.102 is an unauthorised fixed address.  With the Linksys routers, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the range of the DHCP server.

Here are the rules of use of the fixed LAN IP addresses with Linksys routers.  (Note: these rules were written for the 192.168.1.x subnet.)  Since you're using the 192.168.2.x subnet, change all addresses accordingly):

With Linksys, routers, a fixed (static) IP LAN addresses must be assigned in the device that uses the address. If you need to enter the fixed address to the computer, printer or camera, not in the router.

When you use a Linksys router, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server rank (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and may not end with 0, 1 and 255.

That's why any fixed LAN IP address would normally be of the order of
    192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
    192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming that you always use the default DHCP server line.

In addition, in the computer, when you configure a static LAN IP address, you need to set the "Subnet mask" 255.255.255.0 and the 'default gateway' on 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1.  Note that some network devices can not use server proxy DNS at 192.168.1.1.  In this case, the value "DNS server" your real address of Internet DNS server (found in the router when connected to the Internet).

It is also important that the same value static LAN IP address no two devices on your network.

    **********************

After you gave your camera at a fixed LAN IP address, then go in "Port Redirection" in the router and configuring the ports one (or more) to the address LAN IP fixed camera.

In order to access your camera from the Internet, you will need to either:

    (1) get a fixed Internet IP address (static) address from your ISP and configure your router to use this address, or

    (2) use a free service such as DDNS.  DDNS allows you to use a dynamic Internet IP address, but can connect you by using the same URL.

    I hope this helps.

  • WRT54GS - problem with changing the router IP

Here's my problem: I want to change the IP Address of the router (and subnet) to 192.168.1.1 to (for example) 192.168.28.1 (long story).  I can do it on the base of the router configuration page.

I have a desktop with a fixed address configuration: 192.168.28.90, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway and preferred DNS server: 192.168.28.1.  Three laptops get dhcp addresses.

Access to Internet is fine, but local communications on the local network no longer work: shared folders are not accessible, and I can not ping to one local PC to another. (But I can ping anything on the web)

When I'm back at 192.168.1.1 all is well again.

Someone at - it includes what is the problem?

    Thank you.

It is most likely a problem of computer software firewall.

To resolve the issue, reset the router to 192.168.28.1, then power cycle your network, verify that your Internet connection works on all computers.  Then go into the computer on each computer software firewall and set it to "trust", other computers on your network.

  • Configure the router WRT54G with the PUBLIC IP address and use the DHCP protocol for internal computers

    Hello

I have a service online Internet with 5 public IP addresses.

The router and the AP are connected to a switch.

I would like to set up a WRT54G Router with a public IP address and use DHCP (with private ip address) for the computers that will connect to the AP.

That the AP is connected to the switch, it is possible that the other wired computers that are connected to the same switch can get an IP from the DHCP?

    Thanks in advance

In this case, the routing is automatic.

  • Router WRT54G wireless does not work with the new modem

Hi, I use my router WRT54G (Firmware version v2.02.7) on 4 computers for more than four years now, without any problems at all. However, today I had to replace my old modem with a brand new modem Speedtouch from my supplier, and although I made sure each cable has been connected properly, it just doesn't.

The connection between my PC and the router (http://192.168.1.1) is good, but the problem must be between the router and the new modem. When I click on 'Status', he said: ""connection status: disconnected".

After clicking on the 'Connect' button, it tells me that it "can not connect to the PPTP serverbe"

    Help, please

    Hi Matt,

Although the resolution of this problem was a little simpler, I still thank you for your answer.

The neighbor boy came up with the following response:

«It just check the Type of Internet connection, cause you got an old type of modem before.» It will probably be set to PPTP. If this is the case, simply change it to "Automatic DHCP Configuration", click on "Save Settings" and everything should be ok then"

    And he was right!

    I am so happy

  • Router WRT54GS WET54G bridge question, the bridge to connect to a wired router?

    Hi all

I have a wireless - g LAN using a WRT54GS router.  The existing wireless devices on the local network are 2 PCs, a TiVo unit (using the TiVo wireless adapter) and 2 WET54G Wireless bridges.  A bridge connects ethernet wired to a network printer.  The other bridge connects by ethernet cable to a reader Blu - Ray Sony BDP-S550.

Security is WPA2-AES.  so far this works well, believe it or not, but I grew a lot older, making it happen.

Now, here's what I would do: I would like to add another device LAN cable where the second bridge WET54G connects to the Blu - Ray player.  The bridge has only an ethernet cable connection, so I have to find another way to get the two devices connected to the wireless LAN.

I have two other devices LinkSys, kicking around here that I can use.  One is a BEFSR41 wired router.  The other is a WAP54G Wireless Access Point.   If I can use one or two of those who in some way, I won't have to buy another camera.  It is the order of the day so far.

Right now it looks like this:

Router WRT54GS wireless wire WET54G bridge entry WAN router BEFSR41 son to two LAN devices.

I have problems performing this work, assuming that it can still be done.  Can I get this config to work, or what I need to add the Access Point where the bridge is now, or...?

    Thanks for your time,

    Big Al Mintaka

You already have a network working with your existing devices. What you're trying to include in your network is possible and can be done. Rather than plug the cable of the WET54G to the WAN port on the router, connect the cable to the router's LAN port. Disable DHCP and change the LAN ip address in the range of your existing network. It should work.

  • Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

I got a modem Comcast/Xfinity upgrade. Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router on a network, AirPort Extreme will be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work properly with the new modem. For this he would be...

Turn on AirPort Extreme for a few minutes... If it is not already turned on

Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 7-8 seconds, then release it.

Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart to a slow, flashing amber light status

Make sure that an Ethernet cable connects to one of the four LAN <-->Ethernet ports on the modem/router on port WAN "O" on AirPort Extreme

To start the Setup program, click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and are looking for a list of the new AirPort base station

Just below that, click directly on the AirPort Extreme and then follow the prompts for configuration "Wizard".

When you configure AirPort Extreme once again, you can use the same wireless network name and the same password that you used with AirPort Extreme with the 'old' modem, if you wish, or use a new wireless network name and password

  • E2500 router communicates only with HP printer cable.

I have a HP color LaserJet 2605dn printer and router e2500. I decided to run an Ethernet cable from the router to the printer instead of via the USB port of the laptop that works fine for a couple of years.

Is the green light on the router would be flashing quick or light yellow on the printer. Guess there is a communication problem. After some reading material at random on Web sites and messages, I manually changed the IP address of the printer: 192.168.1.110 (that is outside the range of the DHCP users (6) quantity, which starts at 192.168.1.100)

Leave the configuration window Panel > devices Printers & I added a new "Standard TCP/IP Port" to match the one I put manually (192.168.1.110).

I varied results when I ping this new IP address while that the yellow light on the Ethernet port on the printer flashes quickly. Sometimes I will have 4 packets that have been sent in the ping also received, sometimes none are received, sometimes 1 and sometimes 2 packets are received. For example, ping results are contradictory and I don't know why that should be.

I guess that none of my configurations 'Basic Wireless Settings' and "Wireless Security" have an impact here. After all, I'm trying only to communicate with my printer wirelessly via my laptop to the printer via a network cable. Also, I'm not a very technical person. I managed to get this far, but I'm at a loss for what keeps my router to communicate with the printer of mine. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Using the printer management page, make sure you on the JetDirect Automatic for networking information. If your automatic support of networking, it must acquire an IP address from the router if the LAN cable is in good working condition. Make a print on the printer configuration page to see what IP address it acquired from the router.

If you decide you want to put a static IP address on the printer, make sure you on the JetDirect information
Manual and instead use 192.168.1.110 tends in the poole DHCP address, try using 192.168.1.26. You will need configure the printer driver in windows accordingly to point to the IP address.

  • How to put in as a bridge wired by another router WRT54G

I now have a provided verizon wireless router and want to use my wrt54G as a cable bridge.  Basically I want to use the WRT54G as a switch for connecting 3 elements that do not have a wireless (an A / V receiver, XBOX 360 and some storage networking).  The race is too long to have 3 connections directly to the verizon router, so I ran an and want the WRT54G to act as a hub of sorts.

I plugged the release LAN of my router verizon at the entrance of the WRT54G, but no internet on the wired WRT54G no outputs.  I guess I need something to "bridge mode", but can not understand it.  I suspect also that I need to disable DHCP, assign a static IP address, and probably more, but I don't have a chance.

Any ideas?   Help is greatly appreciated.

What is the ip address of your router verizon?

Make sure that the ip address of the router Verizon and both are the ip address of the router Linksys assume to be in the same network range. (E.g. Verizon router ip - 192.168.2.1, Linksys router ip - 192.168.2.2). Then connect the router verizon Ethernet cable to linksys router in the number in Port 1. Open the page of the Linksys router setup disable DHCP and wireless (as you say you want to 'use as a wired router wrt54G')

I tried everything and this routher will not work!  I travel with it, when I get home for the holidays and normally I need help from someone to learn how to get the cpu to work with the wireless.  at this point, nothing works.  the modem is a westell MB. 6100-all of the lights work and when I plug my laptop into the ethernet it cord works fine.    When the modem is pluged in the router and the ethernet cable is pluged to a port on the back of the CPU that CPU says there is a problem with its ip address is the same as something elses.  the ssid wireless appears and I can connect with my macbook, but the internet does not work. I can connect to the router through 192.168.1.1 and have security etc. settings.  imy mac address appears in the list of dhcp clients... in the status tab everything seems normal, except that the default gateway is all zeros.

someone has an idea of what's going on?

To your computers with the Linksys router Online... Connect to the Setup page of the Linksys router and under the Configuration tab to change "local IP address" 192.168.2.1 and click on save settings... and then you must restart your network...

Disconnect the power from the router and Modem, wait 30 sec and first then plug in the power to your Modem and once all the lights are cover on your Modem, then you can connect the power supply to the Linksys router and...
