  I finally found a solution after months of wondering why this is happening. This is my Virgin Media connection, the modem/router as when I connected to my phones wifi, teethering, Acer care center instantly updated so something within the Virgin Media network is blocking connectivity. I tried router Virgin Media as a cause of diabling Firewall etc. but with no joy I gave up, but not tried another connection until that earlier with attachment where as a given problem is sorted. I'll report to Virgin Media and after return nothing relevant to this.

  You can now try the power button down for 5-10 seconds to get off the machine at the hard stop. The other option would be to use the battery backup button (it will be require a trombone, pushping, etc. and hold for a few seconds). This should allow you to restart normally. • Laptop model Aspire Acer E5-571-51ZL running Windows 8.1 - lid opening to restore from hibernation?

  I changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid, it goes into hibernation. However, when I open the cover it does not boot up the laptop and restore after hibernation. I have to open the cover and press the power button and then it resets after hibernation.

  I have a much cheaper laptop Toshiba that comes automatically starts and restore after hibernation, when I open the lid. As far as I recall there is no special settings I changed so that the Toshiba to work like this, just the setting in the Windows power option that allows roll Hibernate when closing the lid. The Toshiba running Windows 8.0.

  This model Acer has this feature?

  Type of power in the search and choose "change the power buttons do". Is "Turn the fast startup" checked? If this is not the case, check it.

  Require a password? Do you need it to? Maybe the button / what else than the hibernation.

  I use not so much of Hibernate, I guess.

  Not recommended. It now runs XP? You must at least add more memory to run one of its latest versions of Win and, even less than 8.1, and they would probably run bad. It would be more convenient to shop for bargains on a new machine of Win8.

  I type on my laptop big because I can't get my convertible tablet, touchpad or a touchscreen to work.
