Aspire S3-391-604 with Win8 eligible for Win10?

I have an Acer Aspire S3-391-6046 and wonder if she is eligible for a free upgrade of Windows 10?  (i.e. was the stock Windows 8.1 installed with the PC actually win RT 8.1?) How will I know?

Thank you

Jim

jlandwehr61,

The system in question is not on the list of eligible of Acer models, but this does not mean that it cannot be upgraded. What this means, is that acer will not provide support for pilot for the upgrade to Windows 10. In fact, I upgraded one of our portable S3-391 here for Windows 10 use and it works great.

    Hello

    Hello

Here's the original Acer for Aspire S3-391 batteries:

  • How Flash the BIOS on Aspire S3-391 when no present OS?

I have a new Acer Aspire Ultrabook S3-391-6862.  I want to update the BIOS on the unit, but has difficulty because there is no OS on the Ultrabook again (it came with Win8 on it but I wiped the HARD drive to put Win7 on it).  I downloaded the latest BIOS (BIOS_Acer_2.17_A_A.zip) and unpacked.  It contains 2 files:
    (1) HB2V217.exe (size = 4, 664, 003 bytes)
    (2) Readme.txt (this simply says "Windows flash: Please click on 'HB2V217.exe' to update the bios").

I then added this "HB2V217.exe" (4 664 003 bytes) the Win7 DVD (I did a DVD ISO, then adds the "HB2V217.exe" of the ISO file, then burned a new DVD of Win7 from this new ISO standard).
The new DVD of Win7 boots fine, date at which I hit 'SHIFT - F10' to a command prompt, navigate to the "HB2V217.exe" file and run it, date at which it gives me a message error "subsystem required to support the image is not present.

    Other misc notes:
    -If I look inside the "HB2V217.exe" (4 664 003 bytes) with 7Zip, it contains 4 files:
    (1) HB2V217.exe (size = 4564828, but it has the same name, as it is the container for HB2V217.exe 4 664 003 bytes).
    (2) PopMsg.exe
    (3) wFlash.bat
    (4) wFlash.exe

    Obvious questions:
-Should I copy the 4 files for installing Win7 disc rather than their container?
-Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Thank you

Thank you for your help Jean Philippe, although I have now solved the problem, though in a different way.
To answer your question though, the latest version of BIOS was 2.09.

My solution was tedious but I downloaded "WinPE", built a flash drive bootable with it, the file copied BIOS "HB2V217.exe" (version 4 664 003 bytes) in the flash drive, booted from the flash player, sailed to "HB2V217.exe" and run it, date on which she flashed BIOS 2.17 new to the Ultrabook and rebooted, and success.

For anyone who has the same problem, it was my convoluted solution (in a manner of long-term assuming that those who read it are not familiar with some aspects of computers).
-on another computer, I did the following:
    (1) - download Windows ADK ("adksetup.exe"), which is free (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30652).
2-) plugged a USB key (something more bigger than 200 MB is fine).
    (3) - open windows explore and noted the drive letter of the USB Flash drive, I just plugged.
    (4) - ran the "adksetup.exe" and chose only "Windows PE" of all it's features (I forget if I run 'adksetup.exe' once or twice, but have downloaded more than 3 GB of files in total.
    (5) ' adksetup.exe' run and got a box of command prompt.  I typed in this box (but without the quotation marks):
    (6) "copype x 86 C:\WinPE_x86" (I chose 32 bit (x 86) version, although it may either have worked). "
    7-) after he finished I typed ' MakeWinPEMedia/UFD C:\WinPE_x86 E:.
(8-) where "E:" is the letter of your Flash drive you noted in step 3.
-NOTE that it will erase and format your USB Flash drive, so be sure you don't have any data you want to keep on it and make sure that you have given the CORRECT DRIVE LETTER or YOU WILL FORMAT AND LOSE DATA ON a DRIVE OTHER!
9-) copied the "HB2V217.exe" file for BIOS I unzipped from the zip file, I had downloaded from Acer, for the flash to the root drive.
10-) moved the to the Ultrabook of Acer and started the Ultrabook USB Flash drive (after setting it's BIOS to boot from the USB ports).
    (11) - target navigation on drive "C:" of the Ultrabook in this is the command line by typing:
    (12)-"c:".
    (13)-"HB2V217.exe".
(14): the Ultrabook of Acer seems to restart twice because it flashes the BIOS and gives you a course.
15-) after it's all done, restart the Ultrabook and enter the BIOS to check the version of your BIOS is now new and correct.

There is probably an easier way to make a bootable stick with Windows on it, but nothing I tried seemed to work, so I was stuck with this complicated scheme.

It would have been nicer if Acer had provided their BIOS image independent bootable OS as do so many other manufacturers, so you could simply image/burn the image to a floppy or CD/DVD and then Flash bootable BIOS boot media.

In any case, thanks for your help, and maybe it helps others as well.

  • Screws missing Acer Aspire S5-391

I will try to summarize what happened here:

My laptop is out of warranty, already, I, however, he was sent to a repair shop that was supposed to be authorized by acer, because the fan starts to make a lot of noise, this being a ultrabook I didn't want Amadou with her.

I waited for 20 days until the guy at the shop told me they sent the bad new fan, I just need to get some info for the work of the computer, got a little desperate and just picked up and ordered the fan on ebay to replace it myself, unfortunately, the returned the laptop repair shop miss me a lot of screws tiny screws. Of course, they said that it was not their fault, blah blah.

Question: anyone know what size are these screws, specific for this model (Aspire S5-391)?

    Thanks in advance!

Here are all the screws. You should be able to determine which ones you need.

  • Acer Aspire S7 - 391

So, I bought my QVC S7 - 391from Acer Aspire. They have a good flexpay option which I can afford and a great return policy. Won't in 30 days - just go back. Sweet! He received last week. I returned it the following week.

Ugh... I really want to love this device. Its simplicity is beautiful. The power is fantastic. The resolution, I have even to wear glasses. The construction is solid. The unit is nicely stands out of the Orchard 'Apple' of users in Starbucks or any other place. Finally, a unit that is not in brushed silver, black Matt or slate ish in colour.

Yes, before my purchase - I did my research. I read all news, reviews, opinion, articles, post etc... and anyway, I've always done the purchase. But as soon as I started to feel the "quirks" who all expressed in the comments I had read. I thought, ' hurry up, time to go! "

My experience has been the double tapping keys (I'm not the best typer but I'm a bad typer - I type like a chicken 'to hunt and choose'.)

Another reason for my return, it was losing the cursor. When I placed the cursor where I wanted to, he would move or does not react.

However, I have not met the decline of the wifi service. But very afraid I would. All the post about falling wifi, makes me scared just return it.

Anyway... After all that... and without the unit for the last 4 days only, Miss me it already. Starting to think, I reacted to quickly turning.

Are there any consumer out there with an Acer Aspire S7-391, which has not experienced a technical difficulty at all? One who has had a positive experience of the buyer? Who does not have any quirks with their unit they have bought?

I think again, I reacted to quickly to return my S7-391. Honestly, I think to give him a second chance and get another.

Evaluate the issue from a different angle. Take a look at the forums of other manufacturers.

I suspect you will find similar horror stories. Without doubt some unfounded but is not much.

I do not have a S7, but I agree, there seems to be problems with the wifi in particular. What is unknown, however, is the number of S7 users who have experienced no problem WiFi. If there is a fundamental flaw, each user S7 won't be affected?

There will surely be many Acer users who have not experienced any problems and is more satisfied with their purchase. I'm very happy with mine!

I think it is unlikely that any given machine will require not some "refractory" at one time or another. It is the nature of the beast. However, I expect a new machine to be no problem with regards to the "back of the box" material other that perhaps tweaking the strange to meet personal preferences setting etc.

  • T430 with win8 by factory default win7 - how to reinstall win7?

    Hello

I had a T430 on Ebay. It is running Win7 and I want to do a clean reinstall; but there just win8 sticker in the back and no product key for win7.

So it seems that it was preinstalled with Win8. If I choose "restore to the factory installed state", he would go back to Win8? I don't want that. I want Win7, but I want a clean reinstall.

    Is it still possible?

    Thank you.

Thank you very much. I learned so much.
I went in front of a building restored by default - and this is Win7. No drama.

  • How can activate the TPM on Aspire S7-391-9886?

    Hello

How can I activate the TPM on Aspire S7-391-9886? I went into the BIOS and the option to activate it is always grayed out. I read, it was necessary to set an admin password before the option is available, but not luck. Any clue?

    Thanks in advance

    Marcelo

    Nice day

I remember gotting to activate in the following way as well as on one of the machines.

    1. go in the bios under the Security tab

2 create the user and supervisor password in the bios... Please do NOT play with the HARD drive password

    3. restart the computer and go to bios and check again

NB: If its still grayed out, it means the bios supports, BUT the physical hardware is not present. If the physical hardware allows, then you can now activate it.

    Kind regards

  • Aspire S7-391 pointer has disappeared and the trackpad is not working

    Hi all

I've updated my Aspire S7-391 to 8.1 Windows and now the trackpad is not working, nor the pointer is displayed on the screen. Can I use a USB mouse without problem, and the touch screen works very well. However, even after you have installed the latest driver to trackpad MOMENTUM and by adjusting the settings, the pointer refuses to appear on the screen. Suggestions for corrections are most appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hello..

You can press and hold down the Fn key and press the T key to check if the touchpad works.

If you have no answer, please uninstall the driver from Device Manager and restore the Acer recovery management pilot.

  • Missing power supply Aspire S3-391

    Hello

    I just got my S3 of Aspire new-391 (NC-S3-391-53314G12ADD).
The Quick Guide indicates that I must first read the installation Poster.
The power supply is missing from the box!

Does anyone know where and how to find the power supply?
I'd rather make a configuration before the first use of my laptop.

The box also says to check the content after the seal is broken.

I guess that the checklist is on the same installation plan...

Thank you for your very useful comments!

    Best wishes from the Netherlands

My only advice would be to contact your local support center to see if they have a Poster of installation available for the system.

  • This app is not eligible for promotions

I see the following error message for any application that I'm trying to create a promo code:
-This application is not eligible for promotions

Including applications, I have codes for. It seems not to work for any of my applications.

Ideas on how to solve this problem?

I appreciate the option.  I opened a support ticket, they gave me a list of all applications that are having the problem.  I stopped after 16 - this is twice now that a change of database of thugs killed coupon codes for developers.

Maybe now is a good time to add some changing type of control.  Or difficulty users preemptively if you know that something is broken.  Or even a sticky thread would be nice.

The support system is lacking these days, and I know that two developers that are broken are that they do not want to bother with it.  More accessible information and support manufacturing could encourage them to reach out.
