Assign shortcuts to paragraph styles

Hi all

I use InDesign CC trial version now, and I would buy it after using it for a few weeks. I couldn't assign shortcuts to paragraph styles. Is it my problem or a restriction in the system? Could someone help me with this.

When I click on the space provided for the addition of shortcut we are not throwing any message of error or I would say that I could click this text box and the cursor flashes but I couldn't I attribute a shortcut.

Thank you.

Sisi

Shortcuts for paragraph styles consist of a number on a keypad and a modifier key (for example, hit Cmd/Ctrl or Alt/Option). If your computer does not have a numeric keypad, you may need to use another method as fast application to apply paragraph styles.

  • GREP find/replace + paragraph Styles

    Hello

    I'm editing a long document and have benefited from the assistance of the community already, but being new GREP Style, find/replace, I need to ask for additional help.

    Below a screenshot of the script (original). Two blocks of text you see anticipated by the icons have have styles of different paragraphs. Icons are placed like custom glyphs.

    Now, the last line with C2, 9, 14,... is the target of this post. They are buses of London and I created a paragraph with another icon. The copy that I work with unfortunately is as you see. Buses will follow «;»

    Resulting to place a \r after the semicolon and assign the new paragraph style. The item to work with is (probably) the last "," before the registration of the bus. All entries have it in the same way, where a search/replace global grep should work fine.

    My attempts:

    I used of a previous debate (? < =------;)) [^ ;] + $ to match everything from the end until the last semicolon, but then I found the problem preserving the matched characters and placing \r (using the (? < =-;). start at the beginning and stops at each point comma + space)

    So question: how to stop at the first semicolon at the end and replace the space with \r to create a new paragraph?

    Then, it is two question :-)

    From my previous attempts, I noticed that when you replace the semicolon + space with \r, and change the style of paragraph at a time (from Rail to Bus) caused the Rail paragraph style change (logic) to the style of Bus. So I tried to say the paragraph style of the track "Following paragraph Style is style of Bus" (and not to change the paragraph style in find/replace), but in a way that no longer works.

    Second question is: given to split the find/replace in two steps, how then transform / apply to newly created paragraph the correct style of Bus?

    Thank you in advance for your valuable assistance. So far, the community has been great!

  • GREP to change paragraph style?

    Many people, I have a one for all what you out there smart people. I think GREP can be used to change the formatting in the next instance, but I have no idea how set up.

    I have a very long document, essentially a telephone directory of type list of names, telephone numbers, addresses, well over 150 pages. Paragraph styles are fairly simple, two only by registration. The name/phone number is "BOLD", with a tab on the right points pointing to a phone number that is aligned to the right of the column. The following lines are at the same level on the left, not fat, but indented 6pts. I placed the text file and assigned the NameListing paragraph style to the whole thing. I would like to use GREP to find lines of addresses and change the paragraph style NameListingAddress.

    Here's a screenshot to give you an idea of screen. The left column is correctly formatted with both styles, the right column is "raw", all paragraphs formatted with the paragraph style NameListing.

    What is an application suitable for GREP? If so, how I set it up to only change paragraphs who "do not have tabs? It would save me a crapload of time.

    THANKS again! -Dina

    The easy way would be to do the reverse of what you're trying: together all the paragraphs of your NameListingAddress style (rather than NameListing). And then do a plain old ordinary search for tabs, do not put anything in the line of "change of...". "(or put another tab in) but the value of change in Format to the NameListing style paragraph in the context menu. Change (after you have checked some of them to make sure it's doing what you want).

    It is probably a way to do this with GREP, but it would be much more difficult.

  • Paragraph style > apply... then next > keyboard shortcut?

    Hi all

    I am trying to create a keyboard shortcut for:

    "Apply (paragraph style name) then next.

    But can seem to find it in the options keyboard shortcuts window.

    I usually get to this command by selecting a few paragraphs, and then control-click on the style in the paragraph Panel. A shortcut would be much faster.

  • absent the palette keyboard shortcuts paragraph styles

    I've upgraded to versions 2015 of my CC apps a few weeks ago. Everything seems to work fine, but keyboard shortcuts, I create paragraph styles do not appear in the palette as they did. Shortcuts in the palette show styles of character only. I don't see any option to show or hide shortcuts. Any way to turn them on in the palette paragraph styles?

  • Assign paragraph styles to xml tags correctly. How?

    Hello

    I want to assign xml tags to paragraph styles in InDesign CS6 on a Mac 10.6.8. The XML itself is organized as follows:

    <? XML version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8" standalone = "yes"? >

    < catalog >

    < article id '32434' = >

    "< img href="/bilder/32434.tiff "/ >

    < artikeltextgruppe >

    < artikelmarke > DieselGabana < / artikelmarke >

    < artikelheadline > super Jeans ist < / artikelheadline >

    < artikeltext > Superjeans knallt kidney. < / artikeltext > < number > 70238 < / weight >

    < artikelmaterial > 100% Jeans < / artikelmaterial >

    < artikelgroesse > UK < / artikelgroesse >

    < artikelfarbe > UK < / artikelfarbe >

    < / artikeltextgruppe >

    < / product >

    < / katalog >

    By selecting the option "Assign formats by name to the tags' (translated from the German), I wanted to create the desired look. But if I start all I get is the entire < artikeltextgruppe > textblock assigned to 1 formatstyle. And not to mention that the whole content of < artikeltextgruppe > resembles a single paragraph without any structure (no line breaks) the content is properly structured, because I can highlight the value of e.g. < artikelmarke > separately by doubleclicking the tag in the structure view.

    (a) what can I do to assign formats correctly AND to have correct line breaks?

    "(b) if I drag my node < img href="/bilder/32434.tiff "/ > iin the layout, I get a message posted to search again for the location of the correct reference. And this happens independently on the use of the relative or absolute references (even if I need to use those on) what can I do here?

    Thank you very much

    First of all, I have probably do a search and replace to remove the group element with a text editor ( and elements). They aren't really necessary.

    Secondly, I usually create my styles with the same names as the items themselves. Then, after the XML is imported, I use the command "map tags to styles" in the Structure pane.

    I copied and pasted the single article element to create 4 folders, added a change to an image for each record of the item. Once the paragraph styles have been mapped, your XML looked like this in form of two columns (to get all 4 records on a page)...

    By default, ID creates a single line to a single line in the XML file. So if you want to be on their own line of the elements, the XML must be formatted like this. If you need a different style within a paragraph, you create character styles and edit the items in a group of XML and or paragraph and add the code in the XML file accordingly or post-processing once inside the code.

    I still need to take the XML I gives me and reformat, moves with the tree items, change the links to the images, delete tabs and or spaces where I do not want, tag character styles, etc., to be closer to how I want the original format to be.

  • You can automate assigning a different color in the paragraph styles to each character?

    Hello

    I am trying to find a way to create a paragraph style that will apply a different color to each letter automatically (to avoid having to change each character by hand.) like this:

    productrange.jpg

    Maybe it's not possible with styles, but if anyone has any other tips would be great. See you soon!

    Rosie

    If you want to keep the order of the colors in your RED letters > PURPLE > GREEN you have to exclude white space and choose 'Letters' instead of 'characters '.

    In your case after the Green letter 'Y', the next letter 'V' should be red, but it's Purple

  • Paragraph styles does not work in ID CS6

    I created a newsletter in InDesign CS6. I used the ballot before but now when I try to assign the style for the text is not working.

    For example, I have a normal defined as Calibri, regular, 10pt, but when I paste my text from Word into a text box and select the paragraph style Normal text comes in Adobe Garamond Pro, pt 100. All the styles I try are the default for this setting. I tried to paste history in Notepad first to remove all formatting from Word and then copied in InDesign with the same result.

    Any suggestions?

  • Remove the imported chips and replace them by paragraph Style

    I imported a large number of documents to PDF and I need to remove the text format for the numbering of lettering and balls and replace them with paragraph styles. I find it difficult to arrive at a text or grep search and replace for it.

    So far I managed to assign bullets paragraph style, but I can't seem to remove the imported point. This is my poor attempt a search and replace. I guess it's possible to do it also for lettering and numbering?

    Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 15.06.36.png

    and that's what it looks like after the change with the ball remaining.

    Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 15.13.17.png

    Good question! Can anyone chime in with the 1-step process, but it is darn fast than two, especially if you save the first query:

    • Search: Bullet tab
    • Change of: Para style balls
    • All changes

    • Click on the trash can to delete the paragraph style
    • All changes

    Fact.

    With GREP, you might find one or several characters followed in a tab at the beginning of a paragraph (^. + ^ t) to locate any list, but you would need to set the style of bullets to bullets, the style of numbering of numbers and the AlphaNumbering style to the letters, so I don't see a benefit.

  • How to avoid overwriting the italics when you apply paragraph styles?

    First of all, let me say thank you to the community of Adobe's Forum for the great help over the years! You Rock! 9 times out of 10 you nail!

    OK, so I have a long document full of italics, bold and accents. Successfully, I imported the text in MS Word and kept these text features using the import options. But now, when I go to apply paragraph styles, the italics are lost. Is it possible to implement paragraph styles so that they maintain Roman, italic, bold and also special characters like accents? Thank you!

    Hi David: I just put upward (and record) queries for search/replace that I of course after you import all text. For example, I have one that is italic in the document and it goes to a character called italic style. Once I saved queries, it is very fast to run on all the stories at the same time. And once the local formatting is managed through character styles, it is intact by assigning paragraph styles.

  • Automatic loading for InCopy of InDesign paragraph style?

    Once I created a new empty text box in InDesign, and then add what he for InCopy assignment, how can I get all my paragraph styles is displayed automatically in the InCopy document? at the present time, only 1 model is when open. The copywriter is to have to load for each text box.

    All versions are more recent as of yesterday, March 2.

    When the InCopy user opens him InDesign file or assignment - the preferred/normal workflow - all paragraph styles are included. Then they scroll the document to find your text block empty and then check it out for editing. All styles are always at their disposal.

    Looks like you have IC users open linked InCopy stories (BCTI files) directly. It is possible to do, but as you have seen, a side effect is that then they get only the styles used in this story. (Along w / many other disadvantages.) Since there is no text in the history, there is no recorded her styles.

  • Problem affecting the existing paragraph style

    Hi all!

    I have searched all morning and can't find a lot of good documentation on the use of existing scripts paragraph styles to HAVE. I know that you can build a live, but more specifically, I want to add in the tabs and don't see this as an option to add paragraph styles in one of the refs to javascript.

    I do an "export log" that captures the version, date, time, artist name/layers assigned to help our team of quality control. My problem is that any new text added to the box ignores existing paragraph styles, and I do not see so he can apply what I have in the file.

    I can find the style, so I don't know it exists, and I can also draw the text box, so I think that these paths are correct and working, it's just the applyTo seemingly does not. Here is my code below:

    //get the textBox with the sign off content
    exportLogText = docRef.textFrames.getByName("RT_Signoff");
    //add the sign off text
    exportLogText.contents += "v. " + versionLetter + "\t" + theDate + "\t" + timeStamp + "\tExport by: " + username + "\tLayers: " + layersExported;
    exportLogText.contents += "\r"
    //identify the "Export_Log" paragraph style that already exists in the AI doc
    var paraStyle = docRef.paragraphStyles.getByName("Export_Log");
    for (ps = 0; ps < exportLogText.paragraphs.length; ps++){
        paraStyle.applyTo(exportLogText.paragraphs[ps], true);
    }
    redraw();

    Once it hits the applyTo line, the script stops. I found similar posts claiming this code should work, so I don't know what I'm missing! Any help is appreciated.

    I found a similar code here:a paragraph style for blocks of text in the document

    It's really a matter of aesthetics, but I can't stand the text to look like this:

    issue1.PNG

    When he could look like this!

    issue2.PNG

    Looks like it was a problem with my file which was causing the anomaly, not the script. Things seem to be working now! Thanks for the input guys!

  • Is it possible to automatically check the paragraph Styles?

    Changes to a paragraph style are indexed with a star. That shows you where the styles are not applied correctly - as long the cursor is in this line or paragraph.

    But is there a way to index changes automatically? As you can for example check and index wrong spelling by the correction tools or the low resolution of preflight...?

    To show all the "bad points" without clicking on each paragraph.

    You can create a custom preflight profile to check text replacements: InDesign help | Preflight files before transfer. The property that you want to check is 'Text', then 'Paragraph Style and character Style overrides'. Be sure to turn off all other controls, because they slow down the whole process.

    To check if all paragraphs will have a style assigned, search for [no paragraph Style]: InDesign help | Find/replace, scroll down to find and edit the text in the shape.
