Automatic text using a style object, variable, or script?

Ce_que I would do, is to have an object style that will assign to a frame 1) dressing, 2) vertical center and 3) put the Page Blank words unless I have to type them in each time. I already have the object style set for the scarf, the alignment and the paragraph to the text style. Is a way - maybe with a script or a variable, or a simpler way - that this could be done automatically? I hope I'm being clear.

I don't know if it's important for this question, but I use InDesign CC (later) on a Windows 7 desktop PC.

Thank you very much.

What happened just apply a master page to all the empty pages (looks like that's what you're talking about)? On the master page includes an image with the text you want.

    You will need to find a forum for MS Word, since it is the software you are trying to manipulate in the present.  If you think that the treatment/creation of the PDF file plays a role, then you should ask in the forum for the software that you use to create the PDF file.

  • Inset spacing made Frame - style object - text instead of left/right

    I thinkt the title says it all, basically I want to configure Inset/padding but using left/right means using both styles, surely I can put inside and outside. I'm pretty new to inDesign, so any help is appreciated

    There is a difference in the framework overlay text and leaving the space inside the border of the page for the link.

    You must assign within the margins (hoping that it to deal with some document pages) of the document then make sure that the content of the document is located in the margins only.

    Binding space inside, edges of the pages will be between egde page and inside margin and you need not bother for it once defined for the document.

    You can set the Interior when you create the document in the dialog box new document, or margin layout > margins and columns in the document already created.

    Insert in the text block is a different concept and different use all together.

  • Automatically apply "next paragraph Style...". "in place of the text

    I want to import an Excel (arrow) line 8 500 spreadsheet into InDesign and have it add the necessary number of pages and text related frameworks can flow text AND format her, lines spare in 1 2 paragraph styles. I can do everything until it automatically formatting the text. Paragraph Styles are set up for "Style of next paragraph...". "but it doesn't seem to work on the text. Can anyone help?

    I don't know if this can be done with a table, which is probably what you get from placing your excel file. A table Style might work.

    If you convert a table to text, however, you can select all, right-click on the name of the first style that you need in the paragraph styles Panel, and then choose apply and following style.

  • Link several text boxes to the same variable

    I make labels in Illustrator and want to automate the process somewhat by using variables. I have places date 4 on labels and would rather just change a variable 4.

    Is it possible to create 1 variable and link several text boxes to this variable?

    I tried selecting the boxes and pressing "making dynamic text." This creates several variables that appear to be linked – if I change the name of one, the name of any changes to variables.

    However, if I save variable library and try to change the value of the variable, I get a "the incoming variable library is invalid" error when I try to load it back in. This happens if each variable is bound to a single text box.

    Any ideas on how to make this work?

    Nope. You will need four variables, unless the design lends itself to a direct effect, such as the transformation of the copies. The symbols are not an answer: a text object linked as a variable cannot be stored as a symbol and still working its variable behavior.

  • best judgment for paragraph styles, object styles and character styles

    I want to learn the criteria difference and use of paragraph styles, object styles and character styles. I know how to use them, but know about the best judgment and context, when you use would be better. Can anyone recommend links? I've been using adobe. Please don't suggest books.

    Paragraph styles are whole paragraphs.

    Character styles are letters or isolated words. Do not use the long of an entire paragraph. Do not set all the attributes, only those who are different for the properties of the paragraph Style. Unlike Quark Xpress, in InDesign are character Styles used only for the difference of isolated words.

    Paragraph styles can include the character automatically Style: Styles, GREP, nested Styles, initial letters, chips automatic & numbers and line styles.

    Object styles , set the frame of the object. They include separate definitions of all of the object, the stroke and fill.

    Object styles can also be applied to images in a frame and groups.

    Object styles may also include in the following paragraph Style and a style of paragraphs in automatic way.

    Object styles have several categories, you can choose which category is relevant to apply. For example, it is possible to apply the first style object to give the stroke and fill and apply a different object style to format the corners only and then apply the next. (With this method last only the applied object Style is linked).

    Styles of the opportunity to make global changes in a document. If you build in a smart way, they are a huge time saver. They can be stored in the CC libraries or libraries with objects that are applied to them. If you have created once these styles, you can use them again, and with one or two clicks, you can make their own to new document.

    My recommendation: the habit of Styles, name them always with the same names that it helps you to be accustomed to them and to work faster, much faster.

    There are more models: Table Styles, Styles of cell, the Master Pages and color chart.

  • How to wrap an existing text box around an object?

    I installed the columns plugin for Photoshop CC 2014 and it does what I want it to do, however, every time I "columnise" my existing text box, which is wrapped up another image using paths to work (it comes to the video I looked to create the package), the plugin removes the work path connected as if it were a new fresh text box , I created, remove the packaging.

    I was wondering if there was a way to wrap text around an image/object, preferably after I put it in columns existing .

    Thank you.

    Ok. I installed the extension (I love the way that the extensions install using the Application Desktop Manager now) and it works well, but as you say, it does not account for the retention of the text shape/path and makes a new text box.  This text box is not based on a path, so you cannot modify it.  So low line here is Uber columns won't do what you want.  You could always email Anton ([email protected]) to get a definitive answer.

    But it's frankly hard to manually change your shape.  Well actually it's a little bit tedious, but not rocket science.

    1. Make your shape.  An easy way to do it would be to make as a selection, and then click Make route selection work icon at the bottom of the Trace Panel.  Drag the resulting path on the icon new way to save it.
    2. Now drag two guides to mark the gap between columns.
    3. Zoom way to the top of your path where guides cross it.
    4. Select your pen tool and place the cursor on the intersection of the road and one of the guides.  You will see a little + when you do this, add a point.
    5. Do the same thing to the other guide intersect, then add a third point between them.
    6. Press the delete key.  You now have a gap in the path.
    7. Down to the bottom of the track work and repeat.
    8. With the selected pen tool hover over one of the end point, and then click.  (You should see a little icon of string that indicates you are at the right place.)  I don't see that for some reason, but it still works.
    9. Now, hover over the end point above or below.  When you see the tiny icon (), close the path.
    10. Repeat for the other side.

    Not quite there yet.  You make the way to work in a form.

    • Go layer > new fill layer > solid color chose to any color. You disable this layer when finished.
    • Select the text tool and place the cursor within the form.  The pointer changes to a vertical bar with dotted circle. Click and paste the text.
    • You can store the text in Notepad or in a text box.  It does not matter.
    • It will not automatically be extended to the next column.  You will need to do it manually.

    Ahh... Just remembered.  When you close the original form in two distinct forms, the corners will likely swell.  Hold the Ctrl key to select the point angle, then Alt to drag the handle down, the low point.

    So there you have it.  Or just use InDesign, or even [spit] MS Publisher.

  • Using paragraph styles with numbered lists having paragraphs "child."

    Hi all

    I wanted just a checking the direction of your InDesign experts.

    When I create a numbered list when there are paragraphs separate 'child' who "belong" to the paragraph numbered list real (see below) how do I use paragraph styles for formatting the list?

    Currently I apply a style numbered list to each of the bold numbered paragraphs and just a style of body text indented paragraphs of the child. Is this fair?

    3.1 it is a topic but also a part of a numbered list

    This is the text that goes with the above heading

    This is another paragraph which goes hand in hand with the above heading

    3.2 it comes is a topic, but also part of a numbered list

    This is the text that goes with the above heading

    This is another paragraph which goes hand in hand with the above heading

    3.2 it is a topic but as part of a list numbered

    This is the text that goes with the above heading

    This is another paragraph which goes hand in hand with the above heading

    Also, is there a power automatically apply a style to the last bullet in a list (as with the last CSS child selector) so that I can have a small space after each of my balls except the last one where I would want a larger space.

    Is this fair? Yes. And if you want the style of paragraph number somehow, each model numbered to give his name to the list.

    The styles will be applied by you. To get the last point in space after, add this attribute to its own paragraph style, perhaps also giving it a keep with previous keep option.

    Or give more simple, perhaps the paragraph numbered line style certain amount of space before as one of its attributes under withdrawal and spacing.

  • How can I create a series of blocks of text using the Excel list values?

    It is first of all, the first script I am trying to write from scratch. I'm completely green at the script and I picked up a few bits of ID Adobe scripting guide, but nothing has really stuck still relating to this particular goal.

    My supervisor maintains a master list of advertising space, with the name of the account, is the width of the space, and how space is the height, in an Excel sheet. These spaces can number in the hundreds, and I'm stuck manually drawing a rectangle for each space, which takes a lot of time.

    I would like to create / helped to create a script that will take these values and "magically" to draw these spaces in the form of blocks of text, with the width (in columns) and the height (in inches) defined by the values in the main list, as well as the name of each account in the subsequent text frames.

    The script didn't necessarily need to be able to pull the values directly from the Excel sheet; Can I transfer a file text if necessary, or directly in the script, values he change because I need it. A great thing (if she is not able to pull directly from an Excel sheet) which is the number of spaces a week changes, and so do the accounts and the width and height. Accordingly, it would be ideal that values of the sheet could be modified easily, in order to create a new set of spaces as necessary.

    Positioning for each space is not crucial, only the height and width. If they were all on top of each other on the same page, it is a result for me. The main idea is to not have to draw them all manually, one by one.

    For me, this looks like a command, but I hope that some experienced there Scripting Guys can help me, because I want to become experienced as well.

    Thus, the TL; DR version:

    -Script to draw a series of text blocks.

    -Size of the text boxes should be defined by the values width and height of spreadsheet Excel.

    -Text blocks must have the account name as content (from account in the Excel worksheet names).

    -Accounts, width and height changes every week in the Excel sheet, so must be relatively easy to exchange all values.

    -Width values on the Excel worksheet columns. It would be ideal that the script could turn those numbers into multiples of columns as necessary.

    -Script (optionally) can take values directly from Excel sheet.

    -Script (option) can set the fill color for the gray text frame. (If it works as I think, I could just select all the resulting images of the text myself and put them all to grey at the same time... I'm not lazy as )

    Thanks in advance to anyone who can help in any way possible, even if it's just a little push in the right direction. This script will save 1 to 2 hours of boredom every week.

    Look like the perfect thing for the InDesign scripting.

    I copy content from Excel to a text file, for a format easily read in InDesign, and there will automatically be a TAB for each 'cell', just using copy and paste.

    Here is a piece of code, perhaps you could go on with (the addition of variable to change pages and the location on the page and other things).

    The readFileLineByLine function, can be easily reused with any function using "recall". You simply tell the function what you want to be executed for each line of text that reads:

    const COLUMN_WIDTH = 2; // Define the column width in inch

    var pageIndex;
    var textFramesExported; // not implemented.

    // Add a new dokument. Set myDoc to app.activeDocument to use
    // the current document instead of creating a new one.
    var myDoc = app.documents.add();

    // The doSomethingWithTextRow function is called upon for every line of text read.
    readFileLineByLine('c:\\test.txt', doSomethingWithTextRow);

    function doSomethingWithTextRow(row){
        // We expect the text line to be TAB separated (\t = TAB). We get that from just copying the contents of an
        // excel file into a text document.
        var cells = row.split('\t');
        var companyName = cells[0]; // The Company name in the first slot of the array
        var width = COLUMN_WIDTH * cells[1];
        var height = cells[2];

        // Create a new text frame for every row handled
        if (pageIndex==undefined) pageIndex = 0; // Count up when you have exported a number of texts, I leave this for you to do.
        var newTextFrame = myDoc.pages[pageIndex].textFrames.add();
        newTextFrame.contents = companyName;

        // The text frame is created in the top left corner.
        newTextFrame.geometricBounds = [0, 0, height + ' in', width + ' in']; // Top, Left, Bottom, Right

        // You might want to move the textframes to other positions, keeping track of how many you put out per page.
        newTextFrame.move( [10, 10] );
    }

    function readFileLineByLine(path, callbackFn){
        var myFileIn = new File(path);
        if (File.fs == 'Windows'){
            // This was probably added to recognize UTF-8 (even without its start marker?)
            myFileIn.encoding = 'UTF-8';
        }
        myFileIn.open('r');
        var myEncoding = myFileIn.encoding;
        try{
            if (!myFileIn.exists){
                throw('Missing file: ' + myFileIn.fsName)
            }
            var ln = '';
            while(!myFileIn.eof){
                // Read the lines from the file, until an empty line is found [now as a remark].
                ln = myFileIn.readln()
                // if(ln !='' && ln!='\n'){
                   // Call the function supplied as argument
                   callbackFn(ln);
                // }
            }
        }catch(e){
            alert(e);
            gCancel = true;
        }
        finally{
            myFileIn.close();
        }
    }

    The file in C:\ in my example was recorded in UTF-8 format and looks like this (showing hidden characters):

  • Generate list of a document text paragraph/character styles?

    Hello. Does anyone know how to generate a list from a text paragraph/character styles?

    Nothing at all? Use a script! This JavaScript does the trick:

    myFile = File.saveDialog("Store this data, where?", "Plain text:*.txt");
    if (myFile == null)
     exit(0);
    myFile = File(myFile.fsName);
    myFile.open("w");
    myFile.writeln ("Character styles");
    myFile.writeln ("================");
    for (a=1; a

    Copy, paste it into a text editor (the editor ESTK which accompanies your InDesign is good). Save it as "storeStyles.jsx" in your Script file. When recording in the right place, it appear automatically in the actions panel. Double-click it to run it.

    Both character and paragraph style tables start the counter to 0, but the first character style is always "[None]", and the first paragraph of the styles are always "[None]" and "[standard paragraph].

  • accordion opens automatically active when an html object is inserted

    I really want to use the widget accordion to hide/show a user input form I made by Caspio. Caspio creates a deployment script that you can embed in a Web page using the html object. Works very well in a regular neighborhood of a web page, but when I put an html with the data page code Caspio object in an accordion it opens / activates automatically when the page is loaded. I tried to "closing" the accordion before downloading the page in Design view, and he always does.

    When I use an html object in a tab container it works fine-just the accordion.

    Does anyone know how to deal with this? I really want to show/hide the user input form and not find a better way. I prefer not to do a popup if possible. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Yes, just relaxing on your own button overlay and make transparent trigger.

  • Is it possible to automatically check the paragraph Styles?

    Changes to a paragraph style are indexed with a star. That shows you where the styles are not applied correctly - as long the cursor is in this line or paragraph.

    But is there a way to index changes automatically? As you can for example check and index wrong spelling by the correction tools or the low resolution of preflight...?

    To show all the "bad points" without clicking on each paragraph.

    You can create a custom preflight profile to check text replacements: InDesign help | Preflight files before transfer. The property that you want to check is 'Text', then 'Paragraph Style and character Style overrides'. Be sure to turn off all other controls, because they slow down the whole process.

    To check if all paragraphs will have a style assigned, search for [no paragraph Style]: InDesign help | Find/replace, scroll down to find and edit the text in the shape.
