Back to 'mac address cloning.

My latest issue of 'mac address cloning' has been resolved, but now I have another. Before, I had to reset my router to turn off and reset everything and it worked. Now I have to activate "clone mac address" to get my pc and the server let me contact them (thru 'MSTSC') with my wireless laptop and then I have to disable it to get on the internet. Is there a way for the pc and the server to be reset and start fresh?

It is most likely a name resolution problem. When you don't have the address cloned MAC and you ping dan - pc, do you have the answers?

Unless you have a server configured on your network, WINS all of your PCs have static on the router DHCP leases, or if you run your own internal DNS server, or if you have the file for all of your internal machines LMHosts entries, it is unlikely that you will be able to be able to resolve the names of the computers on your local network.

Probably the easiest way for you is to refer to their IP address. If you have changed the port they listen to on, so you can access separately from outside your network (when you're not home for example) you must add this airport number to the IP address in the input address mstsc block, IE 192.168.1.10:3389 for them and 192.168.1.11:3399 for the other (this is for example... I don't really know the IP addresses or ports that you used...

    Hello everyone .

After that I bought my linksys wrt 120n some time ago, I had problems with my pc mac address cloning. I wasn't able to do. The cloning option tab become gray and could not be selected. Prior to that, everything worked fine for a month or two. I wouldn't change anything.

Reset for 5 seconds does not solve the problem, unplug and plug back or bring back the default values does not work either.

I'm updating to the latest firmware due to other problems of people with 1.0.0.4 version (mine is default 1.0.01) and power Cycle has not helped.

I decided to contact linksys chat based help and I got solutiion of the consultant that solved the problem. I thought that I put it here in case someone else got the same problems...

Solution below in the next post.

    Solution:

    1 make sure that the computer is connected to the router with cable (cable connectivity.---> cable modem RJ45---> > port the router Internet---> > port Ethernet 1 of the router to the computer; the connection will be the same only);

    2. power should be on;

    3 reset the unit: -.
-Press and hold the button of reset for 50 seconds.

    - Then disconnect the Dungeon can now hold the reset for 30 seconds.

-Plug back in the power and keep the button of reset for 30 seconds.

    -Release the reset button. ;

I'll just add that I used only the wired connections don't wan, on windows xp. I also noticed that the base of the router configuration browser has problems sometimes under some browsers other than IE...

Hope I helped someone. See you soon.

  • Advantage of the MAC address cloning?

What is the advantage of the MAC address cloning?

There is no "advantage" to clone the MAC address. The only benefit would be to have internet or not.

In many cases, it is absolutely useless to use the clone MAC address. If you have an internet connection through your router, then there is no need to use the MAC address cloning feature.

Only when you find that you have a working internet connection on a computer directly on your modem, but not when you connect through the router (or another computer directly into the modem) then it is necessary to use the MAC address cloning feature.

Usually, this is only the case with cable TV ISP. They allow you to have an active internet connection single at any time. They do this by remembering the MAC address which connects via a specific modem. If you connect first a computer for testing directly to your modem, you will have an internet connection. Now if you connect a different device to your modem it does not work is because the ISP has always blocked the internet connection, the MAC address of the first computer.

How to remove the lock depends on the ISP and the modem. Sometimes just reset the modem or to turn everything off. Sometimes you turn off everything for a few hours and after that the first connection device is the one with the internet connection (i.e. make sure you connect the router then...) If you want to know exactly how your ISP to do this, you need to ask...

The simple solution is to use the MAC address cloning feature. The router "clones" the MAC address of the first computer, i.e. it basically pretends to this computer. The MAC address is accepted by the ISP and is immediately authorized to the network. You have a working internet connection on the first computer, either through the router directly because both use the same MAC address. (This is no problem on the router because the MAC address is used on the internet port only...).

Of course, remember all this. If at some point later, you connect another computer directly to the modem (for example you have connection problems and want to know what is wrong) you can "lock" in a different MAC address for your connection and you will have to wait to find the connection to a different device.

But once again: there is absolutely no need to use the clone if you have an internet connection through your router.

  • "clone mac address".

    WRT64G

I have a server (2003) and a PC (XP) connected to my router and a laptop (vista) wireless to the router. I connect to my server and PC thru 'mstsc' where I could use two of them through my laptop. Everything was fine until I wanted to go further to access my server via the internet (which I can do w/out for now). I started tweaking the router, and when I fell on the button for "clone Mac address" I from the PC. Now when I want to access my PC and the server I clone my Mac address from my laptop to the router and then I can't get on the internet until I have clone the Mac address to my PC. I guess I should write down Mac address, but I didn't and now I don't know how to get it back. And I guess that's where I went wrong, I'm not sure. Can someone tell me how to get back where I was? Or tell me what I need to use the settings.

    Thank you

"clone mac address" means the process of duplication of the MAC address of one of the computers on your network to the port on your router Internet (WAN). This is generally only done under circumstances where your service provider equipment external Internet to your network is expected to see a certain MAC address before it will assign a WAN IP address to your equipment.

What some service providers used to make Internet was set up your internet connection and to register the MAC address that was on the device (usually a PC) that is directly related to their modem (or what they used to provide connectivity to their network). They would configure their network equipment to provide an IP address only if she saw this MAC address of your connection. If you have modified the equipment to connect to the modem, you must call to reset their equipment to account for your new MAC address. Most of the suppliers do no more, but the MAC cloning on the routers address is a way to circumvent the duty to call. If you have installed a router at some point after the original installation of your ISP and your internet connection does not work, you could try cloning your MAC PC address to the internet port of the router, thus deceiving their equipment into thinking that the same PC was still connected to the modem.

In most cases, MAC address cloning is no longer necessary (despite the recommendations of many here). There are cases where it can work to correct a connection failed, but it is rare.

There is no reason you need to clone the MAC address of your router, if your internet connection work before you start playing with trying to get RDP (mstsc) access to your devices from the internet. You need just the port to the RDP port on the router... but note that if you want to access these two machines on the internet, they will have to listen on different ports. You can use a registry editing in Windows to change the port used for RDP so that the XP and server box are tuned on unique ports.

  • E1200 cloning MAC address but not the PC

My ISP requires MAC authentication on the router for internet access. They provide the router and register for this router to their access list.

I'm not very happy with the router, that they provided, so I intend to buy an E1200 and clone the MAC address of my current router. But when I checked the router interface, of cloning mac page has a button saying 'Clone MAC from my PC'. And in the FAQ of E1200 page it says that the router can automatically capture the PC's MAC address. Which is not what I want to do.

I want to manually enter the MAC address of my older router in this router to be cloned. Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. Once you enable Clone Mac address of the router, click DO NOT Clone My PC Mac. Enter the mac address manually, then click on save settings. In this way the router will save the mac address you want to enter.

He clone the MAC address of the computer, which gives the command to "clone".   However, you may not be cloning your MAC address when others are connected to the router, as this can lead to temporarily lose their Internet connection.

  • Make Unique MAC addresses for cloned library configurations

I have a Setup / configuration library that has 2 models vm included.  How can I ensure that when users clone the configuration of the library of their workspace, it will give multiple users various MAC addresses for the NICs on those virtual machines?  Now when users clone the config from the library to the workspace, it errors out after 1 because they keep receiving the same Mac.

The IP address and MAC to a library configuration does not change when you clone them to a workspace that they use network models.  Only a regular configuration will do it.

  • Problems with MAC WET11 cloning features

    Hello

I'm having a devil of a time to set up my v2 WET11 to allow my XBOX be fully connected. I can configure and connect the bridge, ping, ftp files to XBOX etc. Only problem is when I try to play bound. I can see the game in progress on the second XBOX but cannot participate. Related game works perfectly when Xbox is wired to the router.  I know that play bound depends on each game console broadcasting their MAC, so I need to clone the MAC address of the XBOX to use the bridge.

Unfortunately the WET11 web configuration interface I cannot do. Under Settings/Advanced cloning Mode, all controls are disabled - greyed. This includes the control that allows you to turn on cloning.  I took a shot the script behind the page and it seems that it checks to see if 'disable cloning' is selected and if so, disables all controls of cloning, including one that would allow me to get back on. Since the default value is disabled, it is the programmatic equivalent to lock the keys in the car. You can take a look at here emulated interface:

    http://UI.Linksys.com/files/WET11/v2/advanced.html

Of course, the demo is fully functional and do not exhibit the problem...

Many people have described solve their XBOX related play questions by cloning the MAC address of the XBOX and see change settings using the web interface.

I tried different versions of the firmware 2.06 and 2.07, 2.08 USA 2.08 EU. Same results. Tried the Installer Wizard 1.06 worm, but he does not even include the MAC settings.

Had two cats different with online support agents and the two seem as puzzled as I am.

Am I missing something obvious? Depends on the availability of cloning parameters options elsewhere in the config utility?  Is the interface designed for cloning taking place without intervention of the user on the v2 and v1? (doubt)

    Has anyone else seen elsewhere?

I know that people have written code to pull the strings of parameters off the unit then maybe the reverse is true and I can write the script to directly change the settings.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Rick

Well well well - apparently the firmware is not totally compatible with IE7. Downloaded Firefox and the interface works as advertised.

  • no no pick host server el capitan. List [MAC Address]:unkown.home

We have 21 iMacs running on the server (El Capitan, recently updated) and alone is binding. The solution is usually quite simple for users and groups in SysPref. Remove the server host and binding, find the available server in the option drop-down menu, but for some unknown reason, the server is listed as unkown-00-00-12-34-56-78.home , that I found is the MAC address of the server. I ran this in a terminal:

    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

    and

    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

back to link the server in SysPref and correct server name option appears briefly and then changed back to "unkown-00-00-12-34-56-78.home" right before my eyes!

You see "unkown-00-00-12-34-56-78.home" anywhere on the server?

Is the correct server name a bonjour name? That is to say theServer.com? or is it a FQDN name? theServer.YourDomain.com?

  • Satellite C850D-104 - change of MAC address

On the new laptop of C850D-104, I have a problem with the mac address.

Well well, in short: it changes.

My firewall filter (also) on the mac address so I need to add the mac address of the new machine.
Which seemed to work fine until I restarted the laptop warm. No possible connection.

And looking on the firewall, I see indeed a different mac address attempts to connect.
To be sure, I restarted again, and yet once again, I get a new address (another).

Restart IE cold. stop and restart seem to reset the address this is a first.
And after a warm reboot, the new address.

Now bypass is simple, do a cold reboot, but it is still annoying.
On the internet I found some versions of back problems with the netword card driver, but my current license is some versions above that should have solved the problem.

    Hello.
I had the same problem in a C850-154 (with a Realtek wireless adapter) and the pilot was at the beginning of this year.
I have updated with the driver of the 14/09/12 (version 2.00.0020) and the problem was solved.

  • Can I get the MAC address for my lost iPad?

I think I left my iPad Pro in the street today while loading and led away.  When I realized it, I rolled back, but he had disappeared.

It's a Wifi model only, so find my iPhone will not be much help.  However, my local ISP is a service where you can register the MAC address of the device and it uses one of the many public access tasks automatically, then in this case I find my iPhone could help.

Is there a way to determine MAC address the iPad when I don't?  Perhaps through iTunes?  I checked the box, but only the serial number is in the list.

  • Why is the MAC address Clone?

When I disabled it Clone MAC address I lost access to the internet.

Does anyone know why MAC address Clone is necessary and what it does?

Clone MAC address changes the MAC address of the router on the internet port.

You can use the function of the cloning MAC address to clone the MAC address of a computer if you used before your computer directly to the modem.

Some ISPS (especially cable ISPS) only the customers to have an active internet connection at any time. To do this, check the MAC address, that is, they remember the MAC address that accessible line via the modem and lock the connection to this MAC address.

If you test your internet connection directly with your PC first and then connect the router the router can not get an internet connection because the row is locked to the PC's MAC address. Now if clone you the address MAC from the PC on the router the router "pretended" to be PC and the ISP will accept traffic again.

Usually, simply reset or turn on the modem to reset the lock again. Sometimes, you have to turn off the modem for a couple of hours (for example, through the night) after a few hours of inactivity the ISP removes the lock again. Sometimes call the ISP to remove the lock, but it's not very often.

So basically, generally useless clone MAC address at all because you could accomplish the same thing by resetting the modem or it turned off for a few minutes. If you connect the router to the modem, ISP learns the MAC address of the router and it gets working internet connection. (Of course remember, that once a computer directly connected to the modem would not get active internet connection unless you change the MAC address of the computer to the MAC address of the router).

But the function is useful if you do not want to. You simply set the MAC address of the connected device before, and you get a working internet connection.

  • Configure filtering of MAC address on WRT54G - nothing links

I created MAC address filtering on the wireless router.  5 MAC addresses added to the ALLOWED list, by selecting from the available devices.   Saved the changes.  Now, none of the machines can connect to the access point.  This includes the PC that I use to connect and administer the access point.  I plugged the network cable directly to my PC to manage the router/access point.  Still not able to connect.  That's happened?  How can I go and turn off this nonsense.  I know that MAC filtering is moot wrt efficiency, but I decide to try it.

Reset the router back to the default values. Reconfigure from scratch.
