Backup point-in-time with backup to network share files

Hi all

Oracle Database 11 g Release 11.2.0.3.0 - Production - on Windows 2008R2 64 bit

I'm still getting hot RMAN backup and that you have configured our backup as follows:

-Nightly rman backup to local drive (ORAFRA) hot and then copy the entire ORAFRA folder on a network share (which will be on the Strip).

It adheres to RPO my company (recovery point objective) of 24 hours, because if my real server goes down I can restore in the previous 24 hours.

HOWEVER, my question is more to be able to make the point-in-time recovery using disaster file sharing network. I guess I can make the point in time at any time prior to my backup complete (using SNA #)... but if I wanted to be able to do point-in-time recovery AFTER my full backup, how would that be possible?

Example - full backup at 19:00 every night. The incident occurring at 23:00. words I can only return to 19:00 or before. How can I configure I can restore, say at 22:00, using network backup files?

Thanks in advance!

Yes.  You must use the syntax for using backup controlfile recovery and do a resetlogs.

With rman, you might be able to avoid the resetlogs, depending on whether the point-in-time is your real goal (which could be the situation you've lost again them online - or maybe not so rman the controlfile and newspapers archived periodically).

You might investigate databases in waiting, many places decides that they are worth the cost compared to the possible losses.  And even if you do not, the concepts of recovery help to understand these things.

You can also consider, the purpose of backup is resumed and rman is to manage the recovery.  It is really important to understand the concepts, to the point you can do it in your sleep (literally nearby, here), but it is also important to understand the tools.

  • Incremental backups and Database Point-in-time recovery.

    Hello.
    I want to know how rman managed backups after resetlogs. For example, I did the first level 0 out of 10 and the second level 0 on 20. Each day, I make for the two L0 L1. I made a Point-in-time recovery to 15th on 23. RMAN will consider second L0 and L1, all of which were made after 15 as obsolete?

    RMAN performs backups according to current incarnation. You can't do based on abandoned L0 L1. Even if you use the same tag, rman will create new L0. But rman can use all the backups for restoration/recovery. Abandoned backups are also subject to the same policy to tighten.

  • vDR (1.1) and backup on a network share

    Hello

    I want to install vDR backup on a network share, but wanted to understand the best practices for the network share and if it's OK for her, which will be presented on the virtual Center Server.

    Also, if I wanted to copy this network share broadband (for storage on the site off the coast) is this OK. Anything to be aware off the coast?

    I read a previous post and she suggested that I need to power of the vDR device, to ensure that the store of deduplication is not in use (no integrity checks / ongoing backups). Is this the case?

    Thank you very much

    If I save the Windows share on tape, outside the backup of vDR

    window still would be that I have to turn off power VDR or disassemble the

    Share?

    Yes, because other non-backup operations can still function.  This can cause issues of contention between VDR data and the application copies the data from the store of deduplication.

    Or, I was controlling access to the share (via command line /)

    changes of the authorization) to allow access during the backup window, then once

    the backup window is closed I remove permissions for vDR can not

    more access the share?

    Interesting idea - I had never thought about this.  Theoretically, it should work, but we have never tried on in-house.

    If I have limited access to the share on time would be the vDR go up automatically?

    I don't think so, you will have to do it manually.

    (b) If a backup, health checks or deletions where progress before a

    share has been deleted what happened to active employment? It initiates

    When sharing is restored? Any chance of corrupted data?

    There is always a chance that the VDR done at that point in time.

  • Why Windows backup will not work on a network share?

    I am running Vista Home Premium and have a drive WD MyBookWorld NAS on a MS LAN.  OneCare used to do all my backups, never had any problem, but OneCare is no more.  I also have a NAS Iomega 2 TB hard drive and the problem is exactly the same for that too - XP and 7 can save on it, Vista can not.

    Windows backup works very well for readers SIN of my XP and 7 machines, but both the Vista, those who refuse.  I can drag and drop files from Vista to NAS, it's just the backup center who is the problem.  When I select the NAS drive for the backup on, he asks a user name and password.  My login to the Vista machine id does not work, and the administrator to the NAS password does not work.  The procedure fails with the 0x800706C6 message.  He refuses also backup on XP or 7 machines (with different messages).  He would be the backup on my other machine to Vista, but I do not have spare storage!
    I have read articles countless and tried to turn on/off control of accounts and mapping changes the network drive, without success - the error message, but does not go far.
    There is an industry on the internet trying to sell people PCHA (what is described as a Microsoft product), but I can't find any help on the Microsoft web site.  It is very bad, when the fault is so common.
    Help, please.  What should I do?

    Hello

    Windows Home Premium backup can't backup on a network location.
    So you will need to use an application of part 3. Professional, comprehensive and Enterprise edition
    backup to a network share.

    You can share files and use the 3rd backup XP to do or use Acronis or other
    party utilities.

    I prefer for the most of backup data and prefer to do it in a way that makes it easy to find
    and to restore a file as well as many.

  • Windows 7 backup network share, name of user and password set cached?

    One of the users in our area decided that it was recommended to configure backup in Windows 7 to save backups to a network share on a Windows 2008 R2 server.

    Not a bad idea, however, she got asked to enter his user name and password, which she did.

    Now the user keeps getting locked (even if it re - enter the user name and password.)

    If it starts a new backup, it seems that the user gets locked immidiatley.

    This used to happen from time to time even if we disabled the scheduled backup.

    We tried to run rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr to see if there was something stored we could withdraw, but we could not find anything related to the backup.

    Any input?

    (Now I don't know how this is supposed to work, but I don't think that it is a very good solution for companys strict password and passwords expire. It is perhaps mainly designed for the less complicated home networks?)

  • We get an error "insufficient memory", then the attempt to backup to network drive

    * Original title: Win7 backup and restore memory leak crashes while the backup on the network drive

    I've been back two computers on a netwrk player for almost a year using Win7 backup and restore

    A few months ago a computer started to lock up. This only happens during a backup.

    I deleted all the backups and tried again and found the same problem. The RAM continues to go upward in the 90% until the computer crashes and sends a low-memory error message.

    I have a disc of 2 TB network hard. 700 GB free.

    My backups are image system of 250 GB and 150 GB user folder. Whenever I try to backup of that memory increases just until it runs out.

    Is this related to a recent update from Windows 7?

    Help, please. I'm 3 months without a backup on this computer.

    FIXED MEMORY LEAK!

    After weeks of surveillance of the display of memory resources and looking for other forums I found the culprit.

    McAfee AnitVirus software Once I uninstalled the program, everything worked. The computer works much faster, SVCHOST.exe, explorer.exe, sidebar etc use much much less memory.

    Of course, this software has a problem with the copy of the files on a disk network hard. I couldn't copy 50Gbyte overall to the network but now Win7 back/restore drive, does this very easiliy and timely backup of my files users 50Gbyte more image system 256GByte with ease and allow the use of RAM. Use of RAM total now stands at 40% throughout the process.

    This also explains why my other computers never had a problem because they'll TrendMicro. I have a license for 2 packs of McAfee, but was always suspicious with each other due to problems of continuous with the help of McAfee over the years. This last problem led me to the conclusion not to use.

  • Problem backup files of MS Office 2007 to the network share on non-persistent pool

    I use ThinApp to load MS Office 2007 in a non-persistent pool. Whenever I try to save an Office file to a network share start installation of the application. It takes a lot of time. Any ideas on that?

    Thank you

    Sheph003

    Are you sure that the last-born is a factor here?  It seems more that you have not properly packaged.  Have you tried the same operation of the master image?  To avoid problems, the best way to package the ThinApp is using the same basic build vm that you use for your link clones but without all the apps still installed i.e. windows Basic.

    For example I have 2 images - 1 is Windows XP only, the 2nd is a progression of this image with installed software that becomes the parent.  Thinapps are packed on a copy of the image 1 running on VM Workstation.  I know that my image of parent and ThinApp image have the same windows build due to the process, I followed.

    I don't see what last-born can have no effect on your problem?

    Related to Internet explorer, you can download Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org or Chrome from http://www.google.com/chrome and use them as alternatives.

    Regarding backups, I suggest avoid you the Windows backup program and you get a good commercial backup program. This forum meets for a windows problem reports. I know that I was very impressed when I tried it. Three I'm familiar with and like Norton Ghost (which I use for 8 years no 1 problem), Easeus Todo Backup free, you can download it on http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm and Memeo, which has 30 day free trial and you can buy it for $29.99 - you can download it from http://memeo.com . You can get Ghost for almost nothing (like me), if you look at the sales.
    The March 2012 issue of PC World is very high on Easeus FREE program, and I was recently tested in a variety of configurations and must say that I am very impressed.  As Ghost will support up to a network drive and it will create a bootable CD for when your PC does not start.  See commentary to PC World to

    Some of them are free (the last time I checked there over 300), some have free trials (more), and some are buying only (more than 200).

    External hard drives are the best for backup. You can get a 500 GB one for $70 and a 1.5 to one for about $90. You can also buy a flash drive 16 GB for as little as $10. It is the best insurance you can buy ever!

  • Point in time recovery scenario.

    Hi all

    I worked on the time of recovery as point below and restored successfully as below,

    First, I checked the data,

    SQL > SELECT * FROM test2;

    NAME

    --------------------

    Haja

    Knani

    Pradeep

    Barry

    SQL > SELECT * FROM test3.

    ADDRESS

    --------------------------------------------------

    MIT Inoftech, Chennai

    SQL > select to_char (sysdate, "mm/dd/yy hh24:mi:ss'") twice;

    The clock DB

    -----------------

    25/03/15 12:35:34 - based on this basis of time I restore and recovery, my question is also in service at that date and time only.

    SQL > UPDATE test2 SET name = 'Raja' WHERE name = 'Haja;

    1 line update.

    SQL > SELECT * FROM test2;

    NAME

    --------------------

    Raja (previously this line contains the values as Haja.)

    Knani

    Pradeep

    Barry

    SQL > SELECT * FROM test3.

    ADDRESS

    --------------------------------------------------

    MIT Inoftech, Chennai

    SQL > DROP TABLE test3.

    Deleted table.

    SQL > SELECT * FROM test3.

    SELECT * FROM test3

    *

    ERROR on line 1:

    ORA-00942: table or view does not exist

    then I got db in editing step then did restore and recover successfully.

    RMAN > RUN {

    UNTIL ' TO_DATE (20 MAY 14 12:35:34 ',).

    "MM/DD/YY HH24:MI:SS") ';

    RESTORE THE DATABASE;

    RECOVER THE DATABASE;

    }

    I will come to my question, before I took the date and time of double as below,

    Scenario-1

    SQL > select to_char (sysdate, "mm/dd/yy hh24:mi:ss'") twice;

    The clock DB

    -----------------------

    25/03/15 12:35:34,

    If I use above the date and time can restore and recover the works.

    Scenario - 2

    I did all dml and ddl change as I mentioned above but did not date and hour only instead manually I change date and time as below,

    25/03/15 12:55:34 (I tried this after 20 minutes and time mentioned is given by myself, did not double)

    "but my restoration and recovery completed successfully, but dropped table is 3 not restored and update the data in row as"Raja"want it as ' Haja" than the way it has been done before update, but has not changed.

    What is the problem here, why my restoration not complete successfully using manually mentioned date and time when it is successfully done using double query time-out.

    Suppose that I forgot to take it twice then Am I can't restore and recovery?

    Is there any solution or own way is here to fulfill my need. then, kindly share with me.

    Hello

    I will explain clearly, sorry for the inconvenience,

    I hope that got 1 scenario do you understand,

    In scenario - 2 there is not more complexity, just that I had restore and recover successfully when I gave ALL to the base double taken as 25/03/15 12:35:34 in scenario 1, but in the scenario-2 I tried to restore and recover with the VALUE UNTIL here I gave the date and time as 25/03/15 12:55:34 by manually by myself not selected double date and time by this time restore and recover over expected but table and lines are not restored and corrected.

    Anyway thank you for your Information, I will loot in a SET command up to for more information.

    It is real simple, and after selecting sysdate double at some point has nothing to do with it.  The time of SET up is powered continuously "manually". He does not know or care that you provide once you have determined by selecting sysdate in double to an earlier point in time.

    You did your test update (change "haja' to 'raja' some time between 12:35:34-12:55:34.

    In scenario1, you did a TIME FIXED up an hour before your update.  Were recovered at that time and your data recovery operation as it was before the update... as it was at 12:35:34.

    In scenario 2, you did a TIME FIXED up to one hour AFTER your update. Thus, the recovery operation recovered all activities at 12:55:34.  It was AFTER your update, so when the recovery is complete, you have had your data as it was at 12:55:34.

    Do not test the recoverablity of your database and you don't have the recovery of your data plan?
    You cannot forward the database in line with the point in time using archived redo log files. Then please contact the person who is responsible for the backup and recovery and ask him to make a clone of your production system in the hour before the table has been updated, move this table to the production database
