Backup VDR of Active Directory virtual computers

I was wondering if many use VDR to save their VMs AD?  I would it would make the recovery of VM all obviously faster.  I always make backups of the System State and such, but I was wondering if anyone has tested an AD VM host backup and restore with VDR?  Any thoughts/concerns/problems with this?

Hello.

Personally, I prefer simply to take system state backups and not more. If I need to do a restore, I just deploy a new virtual machine from the model and then use the system to restore State.

It might be interesting to read Microsoft "[backup and restore considerations for virtualized domain controllers | ]. "[http://technet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd363545%28WS.10%29.aspx]" document TechNet for Windows 2008.  It seems to apply only to Windows Virtualization.  For Windows 2003, see kb 875495.  The thing to keep in mind is supported from Microsoft.  You do not want to perform a restore DC not supported and then know you will not be supported by Microsoft with it.

Good luck!

  • Backup permissions for Active Directory users

    Hello

is it possible (e.g. by vim - cmd), permission settings backup referring users to the AD?

I have a domain controller which is a failure sometimes briefly and whenever that happens, forget my esxi / loses all permissions for users of the AD, while I again subsequently enter manually.

Or does anyone have another tip for me, which could help prevent the loss of permission to users of the AD settings?

    Thanks in advance!

I would investigate why your DC is falling, as it seems that causes the initial problems. as far as I know, once permissions have been applied, they should persists, but since your DC is down, I can't really say what is the expected result. You can take a look at newspapers to see if it takes DC are available to keep the roles, etc.

In any case, if you need to quickly redeploy rules using vim - cmd, take a look at this blog post - http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2011/02/automating-active-directory-user.html

These permisisons must be stored under etc/vmware/hostd/authorization.xml, so you could technically simply this backup file and restore if necessary. You probably need to restart either process pass or the host so that the changes take effect

Announcement is not a consumer product.  You'll be much more likely to get an answer as to where you can buy it on TechNet (for IT Pro)

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)

MI idea are montarlo en laboratorio por curiosidad aunque supongo that no nada pasara don't dado are a the tests entorno y no reflejara UN real stage.

    Gracias,.

    Hola

The vsphere nueva version no esta soportado instalacion en UN DC.

Como mid-week're nunca montar en UN DC any service that no sea AD DNS (nor even DHCP) y... pero claro todo depende del presupuesto y el servidores number are licenses that con tener... etc.. TC:he visto UN client con 1 como DC, DNS, DHCP server, file server print server is

If're para laboratorio puedes probarlo, pero apra a productive entorno no you lo shopping.

  • Add Active Directory users on object permissions in Virtual Center

    Hello

I want to give permissions for virtual machines.  Usually, it's simple.  My problem is when I list my domain users to give permissions, Virtual Center is not listing all my Active Directory users.  It's just the list users at random.  I don't see any connection between users that are listed, and between which are not listed.  I use the latest version of Virtual Center 2.5.

    Thank you

    Stéphane

I have Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 and I installed the Remote Server Administration Tools, but when I go to the program and features-> turn Windows features on / off power and try to check the choice of Active Directory, and then click OK it attempts to install, but then a window pops up with the message "an error has occurred. Not all the features where successfully changed. "This happens on 2 different installations of Windows 7 I have and I can not find newspapers or additional information anywhere to help me understand why this is the case.

  • How the Network Server 2003 Active Directory, DNS, DHCP with other virtual machines

    Hi ~

I am trying to create a network within the workstation test environment. I did research on everyday and can't find a direct answer. I want to do is use the Server 2003 functions and create my own private network with the 2 other VMS XP Active Directory domain controller. I want both of these XP machines to be able to log into the domain of the 2003 server. I have never used or learned 2003 server, that's why I do this.

What do I need to create a custom network? can I use bridged, host-only, nat? Stop the service DHCP from Vmware workstation?

What is your host operating system and how to get its IP address? What is the result of: ipconfig/all in Windows or Linux ifconfig-a?

    Disable the firewall during installation.

I don't think that the network connection is all that matters (if you care on the internet or a local area network LAN) for guests, while they are the same. I always use filled but the only thing that really counts, IMHO, is that the host, guests of the XP and W2003 prompt are all on the same subnet and the server has a static IP address.

I almost always use open for all guests. I put all the guests for static IP addresses on the same subnet as the host. I put the DNS server for XP clients to the IP address of the host to W2003. I have install the DNS role on W2003 server and then install the role of domain controller (AD), with the help of a domain name like lousdomain.local. Then you should be able to join XP guests to this area.

It's all exactly the same as if it was real machines.

My default installation is filled with the IP host is defined on 10.0.3.5, a gateway of 10.0.3.1 (my ADSL router), my server W2003 (or W2008) the 10.0.3.4 value and guests XP, the value to something like 10.0.3.6, 10.0.3.7 etc. Again, once again, is not the same as little care as long as they are on the same subnet.

What are the errors you get when you try to set up?

What you get from ipconfig/all on each of the guests?

    Lou
