Bad blocks on the new drive

I have a HUS724030ALE640 HGST fairly new (7 k 4000 3 GB Ultrastar) that shows an unusual number of bad blocks (107) for a new disk. I just bought 26 of them and the rest 0 defective. Should I guarantee return this puppy?

Get information from the disk utility:

Reallocated sector Count : 00000000006 B

bad blocks has been published after use, or they were already there after unpacking?

If the last: I wouldn't worry about 107 defective at all.

  • Bad sectors on the hard drive; help to isolate or repair

Hello, recently I discovered that my windows get to slump that closely mimics a gel at a random time. After a lot of research on this topic, I did several diagnostic tests on my laptop and finally reduced to my hard drive.
The problem is evident for the following reasons:
    • When I tried to run chkdsk/r/f, which is always translated by he stuck to "step 4: check the data in the file" around 70%.
    • When the slowdown occurs, the resource monitor from Task Manager for the disk activity showed 1 KB/s (not sure if this is suspicious)
    • Tried various hard drive diagnostic tools. WinDLG gets blocked for a certain sector, but has never even if I waited for 6 h +. SeaTools for DOS has reported that the hard drive failed the tests. Dell diagnostic tool also pointed out the hard drive, is not the test of confidence in some sectors. Toshiba Diagnostics tool did not work as I could not highlight the readers so he could test.
Formally, this means that I have bad sectors on the hard drive and I want to know if there are solutions to 'fix' or isolate him rather than replace the hard drive. The hard drive is only a year old and I would like to get as much time as I can with the drive without having to spend on a new.
In addition, I also came to this post here which seems to reflect the same situation:
However, there are a few parts where I am confused and does not really apply to my situation (for example, meanwhile his stage 5, for me its stage 4). Thanks in advance for any help.

CHKDSK does not indicate a failing hard drive, it indicates problems with the filesystem (NTFS.sys) hard disk.  I like to repeat because that may indicate more out of trouble (if you get several times CHKDSK repair things, then something else is the cause).

    That's what I'm looking for:

DO NOT use the drivers from the resource CD.  They are overwhelmed when you get them.  Go to the Dell support site and download the latest versions here.

Unfortunately, unless your highly qualified with a soldering iron on small electric parts, then there is no replacement of the part.  Also unfortunately, there is no test for a motherboard problem, so we have to everything else on the rule.

If it passes all the tests, it indicates that it passed all tests.  All these tests are software - they can not physically 'see' a hardware problem, but can deduct that it based on the results of the tests.

  • PSE7 organizing with the new drive C: - Win XP Home SP2.

The recent slowdown of my C: drive (160 GB, about 75% full) convinced me - if it's the cause - to order a new drive to replace the old, and I think I can copy everything through a new relatively easily.

Now I like my previous organiser backups - full, on an external HD - will be any use to reinstall it on the new drive C: and so will of course take one as soon as a new POSSIBLE thereafter, but if the new drive as a different ID or anything else, is it also will cause problems with the catalogue the organizer before I even get there?

Pushing 27000 image files and I really don't want to have to write all tags in those countries that will be!

And I can't say that I'm eager to using the Organizer to "move" all the MyBook either - especially with the c: drive so slow now - but that might be the only way to go?

    TIA - Peter

am I right in thinking that if I leave the old one in place then then your comment "you will have to change the serial number of the volume on the player (ask for details if that's what you want to do)" does not apply?

    That is right.

Reminder: If you use a utility like Acronis, he'll duplicate the old drive from block to block, and if you then leave the old drive connected, you will have two disks with the same serial number of the volume.  While Windows and almost all programs are fine with that, it confuses PSE greatly, and you would have to change the number on the old disk.  PSE 6, redesigned how Adobe PSE manages several disks, and they botched it.  PSE 8 fixed most of the problems, but the problem with duplicate serial numbers remains.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

  • Cannot transfer Time Machine backups on the new drive

I store my backup Time Machine on a Seagate 1.5 TB drive when the drive starts giving errors.  I had files on this computer and was able to transfer all except for 2 who were on unreadable sectors.  Fortunately, one of these files was an older archived version that I could afford to give up and the other was a temporary file in the photo library and since all other items were okay, I think I'm good.

The problem came when I tried to transfer my Time Machine backup of 800 GB for a new disk.  When I copy and Exact-paste (cmd-opt-shift-v) the Backups.backupdb to the new drive, it gets the extent of November 23, 2015 and then dies because reports of the Console to the system, it gets an IO error when you try to read:

    /Library/SystemMigration/history/migration-245250B6-4F52-4FBB-BD61-546A8C19CCD5/ QuarantineRoot/private/var/db/dyld/dyld_shared_cache_x86_64

in the relevant backup.  And because it's an IO error it simply abandons the whole process so I have no backup from November 23, included, for now.

Because the disc is unstable, I wasn't able to use disk utility to make repairs on it.  The disc is what is and I have to deal with the mess, that I do not have the disorder, that I would have.

I tried to manually place the missing files in the database, but the operating system will not let me.  I want to just copy my backup / OS X stop abandonment and be more like Windows and give me the options to "try again" or "fail" instead of just quitting!  I mean, why should I lose my backup all hierarchy of 23 November and beyond, simply because you cannot read a file, a file that I could simply replace in the backup of the current version or you can just ignore it.

I tried to copy files on and setting xattr on them to be backup items, but they are wrong.  I tried chflags parameter to make the writable directory, but it does not work.  I can't copy the missing files to fix my archives.  Help.

Please, don't try to transfer backups of a failed drive. Placing the disk aside until you don't know no longer you need the data, then delete and recycle. Start a new backup set on the new drive. For more security, you always have more than one backup.

  • Satellite L655-1GN - failed to install the new drive HARD original recovery image

    Hello

Just had to buy a new hard drive and put the latter with the former. I already checked that he was the same size and SATA as the original hard drive. When I tried to start a new installation of the operating system from the recovery disk (that I bought the Toshiba provider in my country - MAFIL), the boot option was not available.

MAFIL representative told me that the recovery disks only for the reinstalliation of the OS on the original drive, but are not suitable to install a fresh copy again. So, how can I install my Win7 64-bit, with all settings on the new drive and Toshiba apps?

    Thank you
    Tomer

On many models of laptops different change HARD drive or upgrade can be done by the owner of the laptop and after doing this, you can install recovery image using the disc of recovery without any problem.

I did several times on different models of Toshiba laptops. This works.
I really don't understand how someone can give you this information.

By default the BIOS settings, restart your machine and press F12 at startup. When the boot menu appears on the screen put the recovery disk ODD news, select CD/DVD as a boot device and press ENTER.
What happens when you do this?

Thanks for the reply with the details,

You can activate the Device Manager to view hidden devices by following the steps mentioned below:

To work around this behavior and display devices when you click Show hidden devices:

    1. Click Start, point to programs, point to Accessories, and then click command prompt.
    2. At a command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

      Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1

    3. Type the following command a command prompt and press ENTER:

      Start devmgmt.msc

    4. Troubleshoot the devices and drivers in Device Manager.

    For more details: click here

Uninstall all software and drivers for printers:

When you need to uninstall a driver completely, the best and safest method is to use the uninstaller of the device (if it has one). If you have added the device to your system with a Setup program (as is the case with most of the graphics card and sound card drivers, for example), you can uninstall it as you would any other program.

    1. Click Start, type uninstall program, and then press enter.
    2. In the uninstall window, which appears, scroll through the list and find your device or drivers. Double-click the entry to start the uninstall process.

Sometimes devices will not have an uninstall program or the uninstall program will not appear in the list. In these cases, you can use Device Manager to remove the driver completely.

    1. Click Start, type Device Managerand press enter.
    2. Find and double click on the category of the device you want to uninstall (for example, the graphic card would be listed under display card) driver.
    3. Right click on the device, and then click Uninstall.
    4. Windows prompts you to confirm the removal of the device. Click OK to remove the driver.
    5. Once the uninstall is complete, restart your computer as soon as possible.

Once the above steps are done, click here to download the full software features for your printer and follow the Setup process to start to use your printer again.

I would like to know if these measures worked for you.  If they did, it's great!  Give us some reinforcements by clicking on the solution and laurels, buttons that help and others see that we have the answers!

I have the same unit but with inside ATI graphics card. Sorry if I misunderstood something, but why you want to install driver chipset? Must the chipset driver be updated until you try to install the graphics driver?

  • has got the biggest hard drive, can I transfer old install to the new drive?

    C: space too small

My Windows XP Professional is installed on a 10 GB hard drive, there is little room left. I added an external drive more and would like to move the system to the largest disk. I don't have a installation disc. Can I transfer the system and applications to the new drive without losing any functionality and maybe use the old drive (C :) to store data.

Its not so easy.  It is best to get rid of some of the files on the old drive and move the data files to the new drive.  Try to go first to start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup.  Then you can move locations of various data, such as temporary Internet files (in Internet Explorer go to tools |) Internet Options | Settings and click the folder to move and which will move this place).  If you use OE, first back up your messages (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#6) and then put in place a new directory on the new drive to something like D:\OESTORE and then go to tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store the folder and click the button change and set it as the new location.  Then close and reopen OE (DO NOT MOVE MESSAGES yourself! as he will destroy them) and the location must be moved.

For other space saver, try to do a backup on the new disk directory and copy all update backups that were made (the Blues subdirectories in the Windows directory) and the Windows\inf directory that you can completely roll over to the new drive for backup purposes and you may need to browse to it, if you install a new device , but which will save a lot of space. (the above two suggestions require that you go to control panel |) Folder options | View and activate display files and hidden folders, enable showing protected and OS files and disable the option Hide extensions of known file types).  Move also on other data such as images, documents, music to the new drive.

So if you have lots of space on C, defrag it.

But just copy through the old drive to the new and try to start on the new one is unlikely to work.
