Basic questions about the storage on ESXi

Hello

We are about to implement a VMware ESXi environment and I would like to get some clarification on the storage in ESXi before proceeding.

Material: 3 guests and HP EVA4000 FC 4 TB SAN.

We execute the file, mail, web, directory, application and database servers.

Some of these services require quick I/O and some require data to be 'seen' by at least 2 virtual servers for HA.

Can I use discs RDM for HA/Clustering servers and for those who need quick I/O, or can I use VMDK:s?

If I present to you the entire 4 TB SAN ESXi can I then several virtual servers use certain parts of this 4 TB SAN as discs RDM and other servers use certain parts of this SAN as VMDK:s? (Do we have virtual HBA:s in ESXi?)

Thank you

Yes. But you must consider as usual VMDK of hard drives in this case, you must install the cluster file system there.

  • Basic questions about the port of Vsphere mirror

I set up a lightweight VM that would deal with inter-VM traffic. To do this, I want to activate the duplication of port between virtual machines.

I have ESXi 5.5 Update 1 installed, use the Vsphere (no webclient) client. I see no duplication of port capacity on my Vsphere Client

    vsphere_esxi5.5_sc1.png

I have some very basic questions:

    (1) all documentation I've read involving 'Port mirror' is done via web Vsphere client. Vsphere is provided with Vcenter (please, correct me if I'm wrong)

    (2) only functions with "Distributed Virtual Switch", not "switch vSphere Standard" port mirroring. How can I activate "Distributed Virtual Switch"? What products can I download/install and try (suppose I go to the user a license for 60 days)

    (3) exist what API to enable/disable/setup Port mirroring?

    (1) all documentation I've read involving 'Port mirror' is done via web Vsphere client. Vsphere is provided with Vcenter (please, correct me if I'm wrong)

Because the mirror of port requires a distributed switch, you will need to vCenter Server and once in vCenter Server, you can the vSphere Web Client of the user or the vSphere Client (c# version).

    (2) only functions with "Distributed Virtual Switch", not "switch vSphere Standard" port mirroring. How can I activate "Distributed Virtual Switch"? What products can I download/install and try (suppose I go to the user a license for 60 days)

You can download the server vCenter Server (60 day trial) and you'll have an Enterprise Plus version for your ESXi host vSphere.

    (3) exist what API to enable/disable/setup Port mirroring?

  • Question about the upgrade to ESXi 4.1 and USB keys

Right now I'm under ESXi 4.1 from a USB key (ie. a very small USB key).

If I want to "start over" and use a newer USB for ESXi 5 but keep my intact, is guest operating systems - this possible?  (For example, if I install ESXi on a Virgin USB 5.0, will I be able to import my existing operating system vmx ESXi 4.1 images, etc.?)

In addition, what's the downside of ESXi 5 running from a USB?  I spin this in a laboratory at the House and have read that ESXi basically load into memory if you really start player ESXi itself is useless and a USB key is perfectly fine.  Is this true?

If you do not want re - configure ESXi 5.0, you can proceed as follows:

    1. Use free software, called "USB Image Tool 1.57" make a picture of your USB 4.1 - software available here http://www.alexpage.de/usb-image-tool/ .  This way you can restore it to any USB in the future.
    2. After making a backup of your USB 4.1 image, upgrade installation 4.1 to 5.0.
    3. Make a backup of your configuration of ESXi using the CLI vMA tool / vSphere in Windows with the following command: vicfg-cfgbackup-next - server
    4. The new installation of ESXi 5.0 on new USB
    5. VMA or vSphere CLI tool use in Windows with the following command to restore the backup from step 3 config: vicfg-cfgbackup-load - server
    6. You should now have ESXi 5.0 works on a new USB without any necessary configuration

Alternatively, you can restore the image USB created in step 1 on your old USB in order to have a 4.1 installation handy...

I recommend that make you a picture of your USB 5.0 USB as well just in case in the future USB fails.

  • Basic questions about the PL/SQL web services and data source names

    Hello

I've successfully generated a web service for a procedure from PL/SQL packaged JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0).

The following code was generated in the base class for web services:
     __dataSource = (javax.sql.DataSource) __initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/dbconnectionDS");
However in the weblogic server, the data source name is jdbc/Gisele for deployment fails in a first time.

What is the recommended procedure to solve this problem? The obvious solution is to manually change the source - that's what I did and it worked fine. However if I re - generate the web service I won't lose my change. Is there a better way to do it?

Another question - in the web.xml file that is generated, there is a resource-ref to the data source. I was hoping that change the data source name it would help, but it didn't work. What is - it used to in this context?

    Thank you
    Luis

I forgot to add, so in case some time later and you want to update the connection to your service details, all you have to do is to add the following entry in your weblogic.xml:
    .

    JDBC/ref_name_from_web. XML
    JDBC/new_jndi_name

    .
And in this way, you will not have to change any code level to point your web service to another connection.

  • A very basic question about the shared storage

To implement GR 11, 2 in Sun SPARC 5.10, our sys admins have allocated block devices in the shared storage and they sent us a letter mentioning the disks. This is what looks like their mail

    Storage attached with the Node1
    /dev/rdsk/c4ikdzs3
    /dev/rdsk/c4ikdzs4
    .
    .
    Storage attached to Node2
    /dev/rdsk/c5ikdzj2
    /dev/rdsk/c5ikdzj5
    .
    .
    When I connect with the Node1: / dev/rdsk, I see
    /dev/rdsk/c4ikdzs3
    /dev/rdsk/c4ikdzs4
    .
    .
as they have said. Same for Node2

But all raw devices mentioned above should be visible at/dev/rdsk of nodes. Right? Isn't that whole point of CARS; Shared storage ?

    resistanceIsFruitful wrote:

Not exactly, if you are referring to the names of devices...

Each core will make a discovery to support when starting. When dealing with the LUN through one HBA (or similar), there is absolutely no guarantee that the nuclei will detect the LUNS in the same order and assign the same scsi device names to them. A LUN can be called device-foo-1 on a single server and device-foo-21 on another.

In addition, several HBAs will be dual port and dual fiber running channels. So, not only is the same logic unit seen as a scsi device, different number of each core but you can see more than once. Device-foo-1 and device-foo-33 may be the same physical LUN on server 1.

To solve this logical device name is required. This will be the name of the same device on all servers - and that it will support multiple paths of I/O to the LUN in turn seamlessly. This is done by looking at the unique signature of the SCSI - called WWID or World Wide nameof the software "special driver. With this unique signature, s/w only recognizes a specific LUN, regardless of what server s/w runs on.

This s/w is called Multipath on Linux, EMC Powerpath and so on. I expect that you will have something similar on your servers.

Scsi device that is mapped by the kernel to the unit number logic is not used. In the case of multipath , for example, use the + / dev/mpath/mpath+ devices. In the case of Powerpath, these will be + / dev/emcpower+ devices.

What are the names of device you will use to 11g Grid Infrastructure and Oracle ASM and RAC installation and configuration of shared storage.

  • Basic question about the selection of the AP and multiple channels

I have about 10 PA (Aironet 1240 G) intended to be deployed one of my floors of office. We examined a diagram of the floor and made sure that we ordered enough to completely saturate the ground with wireless coverage. There are a few AP which are probably only 50' with each other. It's actually a bit exaggerated.

I put a base on the switch configuration so that there are two different SSID on the access point (one for a production of WLAN and the other for a WLAN comments). Each SSID is associated with a VLAN different.

I want to know is this what to do on the channels for the AP? Each access point will be independently configured and controlled.

I understand that there is a way to control which channels each AP uses, but I'm not familiar with the controls or best practices for the configuration of the AP

Can I do something like make sure that each access point uses a different channel than its nearest adjacent neighbors? Someone would mind sharing what is the command to do it, and where it is applied?

I have read through some archives and saw people talk to set "no bunk channels" and to configure them to use 1,6,11 channels. I guess I don't understand what is meant by there.

Manually define you an access point to channel 1, then set his neighbour to use 6 and another neighbor to use 11, and then you who stay?

What is the worst of the scenarios on what happens when you have no AP too close to the other located on the same channel?

It is a pleasure to read through the documentation if someone wouldn't mind pointing me to it. I'm still trying to understand the concept, and then I should be able to understand the documentation that came with the AP.

    Thank you for your help.

If your stand-alone Access Points. If it was a deployment of Comptrollership, in fact to dynamically manage the channels for you.

But what you really want to do, is you see APs do something like this:

(imagine each number represents an access point, and it channel)

    1 6 11 1

    6 11 1 6

    11 1 6 11

    1 6 11 1

It is a conceerne configuration guide. I think he has a small section on the channel assignment. If you do this manually, I think that you specify the actual frequency used in the CLI instead of the channel number.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_3g_JA/configuration/guide/s43rf.html

So the CLI under the Dot11Radio0 you would do something like 'channel 2412' for channel 1... 2437 for 6, 2462

    for 11...

If you have APs side by side on the same channel, you are likely to have clients interfere between them.

  • Question about the new facility ESXi 5

    Hi all

Recently, I installed VMware vSphere with operations management on our server. I also registered this product and I get an email notification for 60 day trial.

AFAIK the ESXi is a free version, what arrived on my virtual machine after the 60 day trial period?

Do I have to install another version of ESXi?

    Thank you in advance,

    Kostas

This is because your vCenter Operations Manager Suite series is not intended to an esxi host.

The key you have done was proved for another product, the Operations Manager vCenter, who must be deployed as a virtual appliance on the esxi host.

For the esxi host, you will need to register on the site I linked. You will then get a serial number for license free esxi, which is not an evaluation, so it will not be displayed under 'my assessments.

  • basic questions about the Bigdata, NOSQL, and Hadoop

    Hello

I have fundamental questions related to Bigdata. (I have Googled it but still want to confirm with experts)

Please correct me if I'm wrong on below.

    (1) as far as I know data large are the collection of unstructured data. We can even store relational data as well.

    (2) NOSQL is a product of Oracle to manage bigdata (UN structured data and relational data as well)

    (3) Hadoop is the only framework that is available on the market to manage the bigdata.

What are the other systems of database that we have in the market to manage the bigdata.

    See you soon,.

    Suri

    Suri,

NoSQL is a distributed (with indexing and schematics) database. From a database point of view, NoSQL is a good place to start you off. Hadoop is a framework for distributed processing, rather than a database. If you are looking to take advantage of your database skills, then I suggest starting with NoSQL.

Oracle Press has recently published "Oracle Big Data Handbook," which is an overview of the suite of large data Oracle technology products. I would start there. You can find the book on Oracle Press or Amazon , Barnes & Noble.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

  • Basic questions about the installation of ASM

I can't find definitive answers to the following. Let me try here. I want to build a server Linux, RDBMS 11.2.0.3, running with the ASM. It's just the prototype server, in our conversion of Oracle 11 g on AIX without ASM on Oracle 11 g on Linux with the ASM.

I have an Oracle VM already running cluster and built a number of virtual machines in models, and everything works fine. Now I am installing DSO, have failed repeatedly. Maybe I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. Here are two questions:

    1. is it true that the only (reasonable) to install DSO is to install the product called "grid Infrastructure? As far as I know, the answer is 'yes '. But GI seems to be so much more than ASM, although I don't think I want or need. Is there an easier way to get ASM?

    2. the matrix certification swear that grid 11.2.0.3 Infrastructure is certified on Oracle Linux 6. (1) I can still see a lot of posts on OTN and elsewhere on the net that say it is NOT supported and that there are has mant problems in get the installation works, and (2) I have tried to install it on OEL 6 and can't get the installer to finish. Specifically, the root.sh script fails with "ohasd failed to start... '. ». Before further my installation problems, I want to just make sure: If this installation of OEL 6?

ASM is a feature of the Oracle Grid infrastructure Installation. So you will need to install IM using ASM.

There is a GI installation which can be installed and configured in two different directions. For a Cluster or for a standalone.

This option must be selected during installation.

The installation of GI for a standalone is called Oracle Restart.

GI for a Cluster installation is called Oracle Clusterware.

The two options above have the particularity of the DSO.

A lot of users here OTN tried installing Grid Infrastructure on RHEL6/OEL6 when it is not certified. Many questions appear.

When it has been certified by Oracle, it remains several notes on MOS that will help you follow the main steps for a successful installation.

I think you should use OEL 6, since Oracle Linux 6 has been certified by Oracle Corporation, you have all the support on this product.

Start with this note: * master Note Linux OS requirements for database server [851598.1 ID] *.

I'm a beginner one week in Flash catalyst and done great. I have a few questions so.

    (1) how is - a edit interaction on a button? for example I added an interaction of the URL, but want to change. Seems that have the options of adding additional interactions, or remove the button and adding a new library.

You can change an existing interaction by double-clicking on it in the Interaction Panel.

When you create or modify the interaction, you can set the URL to open in the same browser window or in a new window. If you select the option for it to open in a new window, your application will always be there when the user closes the window in which the link open.

  • Basic questions about the Permanent Collections

I'm learning just on Collections, discover that a Collection preserves all the work I did in the collection. So, I guess that the images of a collection are virtual copies which can be adjusted in the develop Module, with the difference that they appear in the catalogue under the imported original files. I suppose also that a changed image can be locked to prevent other changes, say if another virtual copy should be made.

I understand that Collections should be protected somehow, for example if I have a collection with images adjusted to look good on the web, and another collection of the same images adjusted to the for look good, using a certain printer.

Maybe I'll ever need adjust the images for different applications, except outside of Lightroom for applications in the CMYK offset printing. As different settings for the slideshow, Web and print can all be contained in a collection, it would probably be best to use the same images, without changing the images for each output.

Some of you who have more experience can add thoughts here about how best to use the Collections. My goal is to keep things simple.

    TIA,

    Ken

    Ken-

Put an image in a Collection made not a virtual copy. Either you have to have VC to reside in a Collection. These distinctions may be among the most important! Can I suggest that run you a few tests with VC in and out of the Collections?

In fact said 0 padding and margin 0, or are you assuming that
There is no padding or margin because you do not specify any?

Most browsers use a padding by default and margin applied when you
don't specify anything whatsoever, and it varies from a browser. Try
specifying 0 padding and margin 0, if you do not already have.

    2. how and where can I do control for a user access to some folders and an another user to access some other workbooks two on desktop and more? (access to workbook control)

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello

If I've made a few changes to a workbook (for example: change certain conditions) on Discoverer Desktop, them take effect at the same time the plu discoverer?

When you save the report using the desktop computer the workbook to changed for all users, including the most.
But in order to see the change you'll have to re-login to more.
This is because the workbook is saved in the memory of the user's PC.

How and where can I do control for a user access to some folders and an another user to access some other workbooks two on desktop and more? (access to workbook control)

Only the owner of the workbook can do that.
This is done in the office as well as in more.
In desktop go to the toolbar "-> manage workbooks-> file sharing" then choose the workbook and share it with who ever you like.

In addition, you can find it in the toolbar "file-> manage workbooks" then click on one of the reports and select "share" from the right.

You must make sure that the shared user have access to the BA that the workbook is the result, and that the user has the privilege of using the office/more computer (this is done in the System Administration tool)

  • Basic question on the configuration of the OVD

    Hi gurus
I have a basic question about the configuration of the TPM. I have all the "employees" in Active Directory and 'Employees + external users' in OID. The employee user password is maintained in AD, while the same for the external user is maintained in OID.

    Query:
I need to configure authentication for an application for the employees present in the AD and present external users in OID. I have to join the profiles of employees present in AD and OID. Even if the employees are present in the OID, I don't want to configure for authentication of the OAM.

How can I implement this using OAM and OVD.

    I got your condition.

You said that OID contains external users as well as employees. You manage a container separated for employees in OID. If so, you job would be easy. If there is no container separated for employees on the OID and storing all users (employees and external users) in the same container (default: cn = Users, dc = xxx, dc is com) then you can get the list of AD users only with the following ldapsearch command:

    ldapsearch h Pei d 'cn = sleep '' w sub s b '' 'objectclass = user' SamAccountName

    Create three adapters OVD:

1 adapter used (this should point to Active Directory)

    2. users adapter (when creating this, you have to exclude users AD, just similar to find the above option).

3 create the adapter to store as the clubs above two adapters.

Now, OAM should talk to store adapter.

    I hope this helps.
