Best file format for Illustrator and PS files be placed in the ID

I am writing a proposal using InDesign. It will output to PDF format for circulation among members of the team; I guess they will be view on a variety of screens and some will be to print on various desktop printers.

I have a variety of images, all in color, in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator to be included in the proposal. Varies from 5 x 7 to 2 x 2. Some are quite complex with fine detail.

I just saw the proposal in preview overprinting ID / high quality display. The images don't look great. A lot of jagged lines.

I usually save all in JPEG format with a quality of 80-90... but it's just a habit, I have no reason or justification for this practice.

I wonder if I should go back to the original files of ID, PS and and save it back as something else before and then place them again.

Does anyone have recommendations or thoughts to offer?

I use CS4 on Mac. My computer is a little underpowered for the project at hand, but I'm willing to put up with a bit of slow performance and lag if it translates into a better final product.

Irregular line is a feature of low resolution, no type of file or an overview screen lower quality than you think that you are using. Check the display performance settings again to make sure they are really good, and if they are configured to allow object level settings, you will need to make sure that each object is also correctly.

Beond that record in .jpeg format is always destructive. For the web, it's nice, but for printing, you should never use anything, in my opinion, but the quality parameters for registration of JPEG files, and I recommend using jpeg at all. If your picture is that all raster data (pixels) Save .psd or .tif. If she has live type or any other vector content, save it as a Photoshop PDF. In Illustrator to save as .ai or PDF with Illustrator editing capability. If you change the extension of the files PDF Photoshop PDP they open in Photoshop rather than Acrobat when you use Edit Original.

As I said, the effects of stairs are a feature of low resolution. We often have people tell us that the file is 300 dpi, but it turns out that it is a very small dimension and the imaga is furred in ID. Both links and information signs can show you the information of resolution of your images. There will be two numbers, real and effective. Effective resolution is the only number that is important. I would like to see a minimum of 150 dpi for printing on a desktop printer, but you could get away with as little as 90 for a non-critical image. Press 300 ppi would be the rule, and a fall below 200 asking trouble.

How the file looks like ID is not nearly as informative as how a PDF file that was exported in the file looks like, or prints. For a high image resolution in the ID you are still looking at an overview of screen resolution lower, not the actual image, because she will be out. Export settings that downsample too far or apply too much compression to reduce file size also can turn a good document in an old piece of junk.
