Best practices for virtualized file servers?

Hello

I wonder if anyone has a best practice ideas for a virtualized file server.

I need to virtualize file server Windows 2003 with data from the 400GO file. Virtual machines are stored on an ISCSI SAN (MSA2012i). There is plenty of space on the VMFS

I'm trying to decide if it will be better to put the data from file server (IE file shares) on the VMFS as a virtual drive or the data to another volume of SAN and present it to the file via ISCSI initiator server.

I know that I can do both - I'm looking for some advice.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Basically I want each user to have their their own records, but also a staff; folder. Since I am usually accustomed to using windows Explorer, I would like to know if these actions can be done in the best conditions. Also I noticed on 2008 there is a feature of contacts. How can it be used? I would like to message or send an email to users their file locations. Also, I want to implement an admin at a lower level to handle the actions without making them far in on the server, not sure.

I read a certain bbut I don't like test direct more because it can cause problems. So basically a way short and neat to manage shares using the MMC, as well as the way that I approach their mail from the server of their actions. Maybe what kind of access cintrol or permissions are suitable also for documents. Also how can I have them use office templates without changing the format of the model.

  • best practices for sending files have client

If a customer requests files... and they don't have Illustrator - but they want the orig for printers and publishers files, should I save the file using inheritance or just save a file of AI cs4 normal?

    THX.

    Chemol

In this case, I would give them a file AI3. File format older you can save. They should be able to use it with almost any common vector editor. In which case they must use for laser engraving or some other CAD related stuff, it may be necessary for the test in different formats. In this case, you must contact these service people directly for test files.

  • What are the best practices for editing files .mov (output of a Ninja Blade ProRes recorder) on a PC?

We recorded using our recorder ProRes Ninja, resulting in files large .mov (as expected). While my Mac laptop is capable of playing Quicktime files, my PC cannot of course. In the meantime, I create compressed copies of the files (such as .mp4s) for sequencing on my PC, because it is a much more powerful machine. However, I don't know how to use these compressed files affect the quality of the final product.

I have to encode files .mov to a different output for use on my PC, is there a way for my PC read uncompressed files or .mp4 files will be sufficient for the high quality of desired output?

    Thanks for your help!

For a PC, you have to download the Quicktime Player... Although I found that the best work, go ahead and get the Qt Pro license (bit less $ 30) seem to make the best out of my 1080 p mov files. Many users pc found here as soon as they have downloaded Qt, their mov worked well. So... you should be able to use fine as-is in mov codec after d - l QuickTime or at worst, Qt Pro license number is entered in your Qt player.

  • Best practices for sending file indesign without incorporating links

How can I send indesign files to a client? I've heard to integrate the links, but then, others say that which could of course issues later, in addition to the fact that it makes the file much larger. Thank you very much!

If you need to transfer the file, use the InDesign package feature (file > Package) to pick up a copy of the document and files all linked. Then use commonly available 'Zip' or another archiving utility to make the folder of the package and its mobile content.

Transitions film nicely name.swf and on this page, I have a button that returns the user to the index.swf...

(release) {loadMovieNum ("index.swf", 0) ;}}   Things back to index.swf nicely and the user can chose to go to a different landing page.

It seems that I am on the right track, BC., nothing's wrong? but want to check out. I'm following best practices for moving from one swf to another within a Web site?

  • Best practices for vSphere 5 Networking

    Hi all

    Given the following environment:

    (1) 4 physical servers, each server has 16 (Gigabit) network interface cards will install vSphere 5 std.

    (2) 2 switches with SAN storage battery function

    (3) 2 Equallogic PS4000 SAN (two controllers)

    (4) 2 switches for the traffic of the virtual machine

As for networking, I intend create some vSwitches on each physical server as follows

    1 vSwitch0 - used for iSCSI storage

6 network adapters are associated with IP-hash, multitracks with iSCSI Storage consolidation policy. and storage load balancing is round Rodin (vmware)

(vmware suggests to use 2 cards for 1 traget of IP storage, I'm not sure)

2 vSwitch1 - used for the virtual machine

6 Teamed network adapters for the traffic of the virtual machine, with the hash intellectual property policy

    3 vSwitch2 - management

    2 network cards are associated

    4 vSwitch3 - vMotion

    2 network cards are associated

  • HP stream 11-d008tu: best practices for migrating to Windows 10?

Hey there, I have a HP flow 11-d0008tu and received the notification I can upgrade to Windows 10. I want to do a clean install with a downloaded ISO but knowledge first of all, it is better to upgrade so that you get the activation done.

Can someone give me some ideas on best practices for the upgrade? The stream has only 30GB HD so I have no recovery disk, I'll just do a recovery later on USB or SD card. When I do the upgrade can deselect recovery option or delete?

Also, any other suggestions appreciated, especially which helps make effective for small HD

    See you soon

Hi, I posted an installation procedure for Windows 10 fresh for the Tablet HP Stream here.  Also, I have a laptop 11 flow but do not have that yet. I think it must be the same because they both the same drive of mem 32 GB Hynix. A change would you probably want to use the 64-bit instead of 32-bit Windows 10 ISO file, the Tablet has only 1 GB of RAM.

  • Best practices for vsphere 5.1

where can I find the doc more up-to-date about berries EQL configuration / best practices with vmware vsphere 5.1

    Hello

Here is a link to a PDF file that covers best practices for ESXi and EQL.

    Best EqualLogic practices ESX

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../20434601.aspx

This doc mentions specifically that the storage Heartbeat VMKernel port is no longer necessary with ESXi v5.1.  VMware has corrected the problem that made it necessary.

If you add it to a 5.1 system it will not hurt.  It will take an IP address for each node.

If you upgrade 5.0 to 5.1, you can delete it later.

Here is a link to VMware which addresses this issue and has links to other Dell documents which confirm also that it is fixed in 5.1.

  • Best practices for color use in Adobe CC?

    Hi all

Is there an article that describes the best practices for use of color in Adobe CC?

I produce a mixture of viewing online (PDF, for the most part) and real world print projects - often with the obligation for both. I recently updated my PANTONE + bridge books for the first time in ages and I am suddenly confused by the use of Lab colors in the Adobe Suite (Illustrator and InDesign).

Everything I found online, looks like Lab color mode preferred to use because it is device independent. And perceptual (on screen), it looks much closer to the color, it is trying to represent. But when I mark a Spot color Illustrator rectangle using laboratory coordinates, to the sides of a rectangle using PANTONE + bridge CP and then export it to PDF, the version of CP to mix CMYK color corresponds exactly to my Pantone book - while the version of laboratory (after converted to CMYK using the ink Manager) is far away.

I have this fantasy to manage only a single Illustrator or InDesign file for both worlds (PDF) printed and online. Is not possible in practice?

Any info describing the basic definitions of the color modes - or even a book tracing more than use them in the real world - would be much appreciated!

    Thank you

    Bob

Here are a few best practices you can already do.

1 make sure that your color settings are synchronized on all applications.

    2. use a CMYK profile appropriate for your print output. Lab spot colors convert to CMYK values based on the CMYK icc profile.

    3. include icc profiles when save or export pdf files

In theory, your imagination is possible today. It requires color management and the use of icc profiles. You can place RGB images in InDesign and use Pantone colors in your objects. The problem lies in the printers. If a printer uses a RIP with built in Pantone library, the colors will match when printing. Unfortunately, this kind of CUT is more expensive and not enough printers use them. Most of them is always manually approximate CMYK values composition given Pantone colors.

  • Best-practice for hardware virtualization?

Hardware virtualization is disabled by default when I create new virtual machines in my VMware clusters. But what are the best practices for this what settings are recommended? Are there reasons NOT to activate the hardware virtualization?

IMO there is no advantage in allowing virtualization of hardware if you have no need for the virtual machine (for example, a virtual host of the ESXi).

  • Best practices for network configuration of vSphere with two subnets?

Well, then I'll set up 3 ESXi hosts connected to storage shared with two different subnets. I configured the iSCSI initiator and the iSCSI with his own default gateway - 192.168.1.1 - targets through a Cisco router and did the same with the hosts configured with its own default gateway - 192.168.2.2. I don't know if I should have a router in the middle to route traffic between two subnets since I use iSCSI ports linking and grouping of NETWORK cards. If I shouldn't use a physical router, how do I route the traffic between different subnets and use iSCSI ports binding at the same time. What are the best practices for the implementation of a network with two subnets vSphere (ESX host network: iSCSI network)? Thank you in advance.

Install the most common iSCSI would be traffic between hosts and

the storage is not being routed, because a router it could reduce performance.

If you have VLAN 10(192.168.1.0/24) iSCSI, VLAN 20 (192.168.2.0/24) ESX

MGMT and VLAN 30 (192.168.3.0/24) comments VMs and VLAN 40 (192.168.4.0/24)

vMotion a deployment scenario might be something like:

    NIC1 - vSwitch 0 - active VMK (192.168.1.10) MGMT, vMotion VMK (192.168.4.10)

    standby

    NIC2 - vSwitch 1 - current (VLAN30) guest virtual machine port group

    NIC3 - vSwitch 2 - active VMK1 (192.168.1.10) iSCSI

    NIC4 - vSwitch 2 - active VMK2 (192.168.1.11) iSCSI

    NIC5 - vSwitch 1 - current (VLAN30) guest virtual machine port group

    NIC6 - vSwitch 0 - MGMT VMK (192.168.2.10) standby, vMotion

    VMK (192.168.4.10) active

You would place you on VLAN 10 storage with an IP address of something like target

192.168.1.8 and iSCSI traffic would remain on this VLAN. The default value

gateway configured in ESXi would be the router the VLAN 20 with an ip address of

something like 192.168.2.1. I hope that scenario help set some options.

  • vSpere 5 Networking of best practices for the use of 4 to 1 GB NIC?

    Hello

I'm looking for a networking of best practices for the use of 4-1 GB NIC with vSphere 5. I know there are a lot of good practice using 10 GB, but our current config does support only 1 GB. I need to include the management, vMotion, Virtual Machine (VM) and iSCSi. If there are others you would recommend, please let me know.

I found a diagram that resembles what I need, but it's for 10 GB. I think it works...

vSphere 5 - 10GbE SegmentedNetworks Ent Design v0_4.jpg(I had this pattern HERE - rights go to Paul Kelly)

My next question is how much of a traffic load is each object take through the network, percentage wise?

For example, 'Management' is very small and the only time where it is in use is during the installation of the agent. Then it uses 70%.

I need the percentage of bandwidth, if possible.

If anyone out there can help me, that would be so awesome.

    Thank you!

    -Erich

Without knowing your environment, it would be impossible to give you an idea of the uses of bandwidth.

That said if you had about 10-15 virtual machines per host with this configuration, you should be fine.

    Hi Experts,

What is the best way or best practices for access to the session defined in servelt pipeline component?

    Please, share your ideas.

As performance is concerned, a lot would depend on as to how your design & logic is implemented and you presented search operations to support the specific performance problems. In fact the operation itself can be not expensive than in-house it is somewhat like a search for key/value of the objects in session/application context name. But having said that, Yes, a potential performance problem could be because it's a synchronized operation. So to avoid searches to be performed during each request, caching the results of a search of a component. And in the majority of cases to solve a 'A' component within your component, you must configure a property reference 'A' in the file properties for your component.
