Best practices for Windows Volumes greater than 2 TB in ESXi 5

I hope to get some feed on the advantages and disadvantages of the few options we have for connecting large LUN for Windows 2003/2008, invited in ESXi 5.

My VMWare cluster is fiber connected to an EMC Symmetrix SAN then I can create any size LUN.

The species is the need for a volume of 6 TB in Windows 2003

My belief is that I have only two viable options, but please correct me if there is a better way.

1. present a 6 TB lun to the cluster and configure it as a RDM and GPT in Windows.

2. present three 2 TB Lun to the cluster and configure as vdmk and dynamic disks in Windows in order to get the volume of 6 TB.

I suppose we could also say that 2 TB RDM disk and dynamic is a variant 3 but I see no reason to do this than option 1, since we use vmfs5

I am looking for advantages/disadvantages of each method. What is the community and is there a good/bad experience that be it.

1. present a 6 TB lun to the cluster and configure it as a RDM and GPT in Windows.

It is advisable to set up like 6 TB RDM physical to Virtual Machine

Benefits:-

Windows will have direct access to the LUN

Performance will be good, because the logic unit number is not shared to all other servers.

Disadvantages: -.

You will not be able to use snapshot, esxi have physical control over RDM.

cloning has some difficulty as you need to remove the front ROW you clone etc.

    Hello

    Re: 1

    If you have a table of 4 TB, use all the available space on the table.  This will reduce performance long-term.  The table needs unallocated free space.  If you use replication or snapshots.

    Re: 2

    If you do not use a file system capable of cluster, then do not connect several servers the same volumes.  Each server has access to its own volume.  You can connect either using the hypervisor (AKA Raw Device mapped LUN) or directly from the virtual machine.  Which is known as the "Storage Direct".  If your server is running Windows, with this configuration, you can use the Host Integration Toolkit / edition of Microsoft (HIT / ME) to provide improved MPIO and better integration with SharePoint, MS SQL and MS Exchange.

    Addresses using IP is fine to control access.  It's a personal preference.  It is possible to make a mistake and allow multiple access to the server when using just IP addresses.  Or an address can be spoofed as well.  A safer option is to use a CHAP username / password combination.

    About your last two questions, I'm not sure that I completely understand.

    The iSCSI network must be on its own.  If each virtual machine or a physical host linking would have their own network interface cards.  Whether it's virtual network adapters or the physical network interface cards. With virtual switches, it should have devoted HW NIC and iSCSI traffic.  But those that can be shared by multiple virtual machines.

  • best practices for the deployment of resiliency using a single ESXi host

    I was wondering if anyone had some advice or a deployment guide for ESXi in an environment without using a cluster. If the cost was not a factor I'd put it in a pool, but this can be done. So, assuming that it is an ESXi host with multiple network cards, which would be a good way to cover areas such as backup and restore when you use the free version? The machines that would go on is not mission-critical if there is a pretty good time that machines could be down without causing problems, however, I want to be sure that if the machine were to explode then there will be a way to recover the virtual machines running on this subject.

    Ideas?

    I think, there is no better practical form VMware vSphere Hypervisor (free version) use, but maybe you'll find some ideas here: How to get VMware cost barriers - build an empire around the free VMware hypervisor

  • Best practices for dealing with Exceptions on members of storage

    We recently encountered a problem where one of our DistributedCaches was closing himself and restart due to a RuntimeException is thrown from our code (see below). As usual, it's our own code and we have updated to not throw a RuntimeException in all circumstances.

    I would like to know if there are some best practices for Exception handling, other than catching Exceptions and their record. We should always catch the Exceptions and ensure that they do not spread back to code that is running from the pot of consistency? Is it possible to configure consistency so that our DistributedCaches are not completed even when filters custom and other throw RuntimeExceptions?

    Thank you, Aidan

    Exception below:

    2010-02-09 12:40:39.222/88477.977 Oracle coherence GE < error > 3.4.2/411 (thread = DistributedCache:StyleCache, Member = 48): a (java.lang.RuntimeException) exception occurred reading Message AggregateFilterRequest Type = 31 for Service = DistributedCache {Name = StyleCache, State = (SERVICE_STARTED), LocalStorage = active, PartitionCount = 1021, BackupCount = 1, AssignedPartitions = 201, 204 = BackupPartitions}

    We have reproduced you problem in the House and it looks like a global filtering does not
    the correct thing (i.e. having caught a processed) when moving from a runtime exception.
    In general runtime exceptions should simply be exploited and returned to the application
    without compromising the cache server, so we will be solving it.

  • HP stream 11-d008tu: best practices for migrating to Windows 10?

    Hey there, I have a HP flow 11-d0008tu and received the notification I can upgrade to Windows 10. I want to do a clean install with a downloaded ISO but knowledge first of all, it is better to upgrade so that you get the activation done.

    Can someone give me some ideas on best practices for the upgrade? The stream has only 30GB HD so I have no recovery disk, I'll just do a recovery later on USB or SD card. When I do the upgrade can deselect recovery option or delete?

    Also, any other suggestions appreciated, especially which helps make effective for small HD

    See you soon

    Hi, I posted an installation procedure for Windows 10 fresh for the Tablet HP Stream here.  Also, I have a laptop 11 flow but do not have that yet. I think it must be the same because they both the same drive of mem 32 GB Hynix. A change would you probably want to use the 64-bit instead of 32-bit Windows 10 ISO file, the Tablet has only 1 GB of RAM.

I thought I would do a clean install of Windows XP, install my Microsoft Works again and nothing else. I would like to effectively transforming my computer into a word processor. I received excellent Microsoft Support when it happened before, but since my computer is around 13 years, I think it is not worth the headache to try to remedy. I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and my computer would not be able to upgrade. Please, can someone tell me how to make it only a word processor without updates or internet connection? Clean install XP sites
    You can choose which site to reinstall XP.

    Once it is installed, then you do not have to connect what anyone, however, some updates may be required to perform the work, test this by installing work and see if you get an error msg. Except that you should be fine.

  • Just improved m tips on best practices for sharing files on a Server 2008 std.

    The field contains about 15 machines with two domain controllers, one's data is the app files / print etc...  I just upgraded from 2003 to 2008 and want to get advice on best practices for the establishment of a group of file sharing. Basically I want each user to have their their own records, but also a staff; folder. Since I am usually accustomed to using windows Explorer, I would like to know if these actions can be done in the best conditions. Also I noticed on 2008 there is a feature of contacts. How can it be used? I would like to message or send an email to users their file locations. Also, I want to implement an admin at a lower level to handle the actions without making them far in on the server, not sure.

    I read a certain bbut I don't like test direct more because it can cause problems. So basically a way short and neat to manage shares using the MMC, as well as the way that I approach their mail from the server of their actions. Maybe what kind of access cintrol or permissions are suitable also for documents. Also how can I have them use office templates without changing the format of the model.

  • Best practices for color use in Adobe CC?

    Hi all

    Is there an article that describes the best practices for use of color in Adobe CC?

    I produce a mixture of viewing online (PDF, for the most part) and real world print projects - often with the obligation for both. I recently updated my PANTONE + bridge books for the first time in ages and I am suddenly confused by the use of Lab colors in the Adobe Suite (Illustrator and InDesign).

    Everything I found online, looks like Lab color mode preferred to use because it is device independent. And perceptual (on screen), it looks much closer to the color, it is trying to represent. But when I mark a Spot color Illustrator rectangle using laboratory coordinates, to the sides of a rectangle using PANTONE + bridge CP and then export it to PDF, the version of CP to mix CMYK color corresponds exactly to my Pantone book - while the version of laboratory (after converted to CMYK using the ink Manager) is far away.

    I have this fantasy to manage only a single Illustrator or InDesign file for both worlds (PDF) printed and online. Is not possible in practice?

    Any info describing the basic definitions of the color modes - or even a book tracing more than use them in the real world - would be much appreciated!

    Thank you

    Bob

    Here are a few best practices you can already do.

    1 make sure that your color settings are synchronized on all applications.

    2. use a CMYK profile appropriate for your print output. Lab spot colors convert to CMYK values based on the CMYK icc profile.

    3. include icc profiles when save or export pdf files

    In theory, your imagination is possible today. It requires color management and the use of icc profiles. You can place RGB images in InDesign and use Pantone colors in your objects. The problem lies in the printers. If a printer uses a RIP with built in Pantone library, the colors will match when printing. Unfortunately, this kind of CUT is more expensive and not enough printers use them. Most of them is always manually approximate CMYK values composition given Pantone colors.

  • Best practices for managing exceptions and success messages.

    Hey people,

    These days I've been shooting packages to clean my application. And question came to my mind, ' should I treat my exceptions the right way?

    So I want to ask you met guys, what is the best practice for this? (I want to learn it until it's too late )

    Currently I have a function that returns "OK" if all goes well.

    return('OK');

    Can I manage my exceptions like this

      EXCEPTION
        WHEN OTHERS THEN
          ROLLBACK;
          RETURN (SQLERRM);

    At THE SUMMIT, I have a process that calls the function and then checks if the function returned "OK".

         IF cRet not LIKE 'OK%' THEN
          RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20000,cRet);
         END IF;

    And in 'process Error Message' I put "#SQLERRM_TEXT #" so that I can see what error occurred.

    Question aside, how do you manage your messages of success?

    Currently in 'process success Message' put something along the lines "Action completed successfully". What to do about all the processes.

    Do you want to do differently?

    I really want to hear what you have to say since I'm tired of feeling like this is a terrible way to manage these things.

    Hi Para,

    Para wrote:

    I don't know of situations where my service throw exceptions like no_data_found.

    and I need to know that the process is not so I can get to see my # #SQLERRM_TEXT.

    I got this by increasing the error in the application (which I think is a bad way to go) if the return is anything other than 'OK '. I get my application error in the process of the apex, and not in my service.
    And I want to show the inline error in the notification. (Which I am currently with my approach).

    You can use APEX_ERROR. ADD_ERROR in your PL/SQL process to throw exceptions in Oracle APEX.

  • Best practices for storing the Logs of the system for all newly improved ESXi hosts?

    Hi people,

    What are the options and best practices for the Logs of the system for all newly improved 5.1u1 ESXi hosts?

    Do I need to have the Syslog server or it can be safely ignored?

    Thank you

    Evening,

    Syslog is preferred, but VMware has provided a collector of syslog on the vcenter installation disc can be installed on any windows host or your vcenter. I can't count the number of times where I had guests CMTF or newspapers lost... Fortunately for the syslog which collects up to the accident.  It is not necessary, but it's really a good idea without any real cost since you can use your vcenter host.

    Here is an article on how to install it:

    As performance is concerned, a lot would depend on as to how your design & logic is implemented and you presented search operations to support the specific performance problems. In fact the operation itself can be not expensive than in-house it is somewhat like a search for key/value of the objects in session/application context name. But having said that, Yes, a potential performance problem could be because it's a synchronized operation. So to avoid searches to be performed during each request, caching the results of a search of a component. And in the majority of cases to solve a 'A' component within your component, you must configure a property reference 'A' in the file properties for your component.

  • best practices for placing the master image

    Im doing some performances / analysis of load tests for the view and im curious about some best practices for the implementation of the image master VM. the question is asked specifically regarding disk i/o and throughput.

    My understanding is that each linked clone still reads master image. So if that is correct, then it seems that you would like the main image to reside in a data store that is located on the same table as the rest of the warehouses of data than the House related clones (and not some lower performing table). The reason why I ask this question, it is that my performance tests is based on some future SSD products. Obviously, the amount of available space on the SSD is limited, but provides immense quantities of e/s (100 k + and higher). But I want to assure you that if, by putting the master image on a data store that is not on the SSD, I am therefore invalidate the IO performance I want high-end SSD.

    This leads to another question, if all the linked clones read from the master image, which is general practices for the number of clones related to deploy by main image before you start to have problems of IO contention against this single master image?

    Thank you!

    Omar Torres, VCP

    This isn't really neccissary. Linked clones are not directly related to the image of the mother. When a desktop pool is created and used one or more data stores Parent is copied in each data store, called a replica. From there, each linked clone is attached to the replica of the parent in its local data store. It is a replica of unmanged and offers the best performance because there is a copy in every store of data including linked gradient.

  • AF best practices for video

    I'm using an EOS 7 d for 1080 p HD video shooting. New to SLR camera and digital video. I have watched several tutorials but do not yet have a good understanding of what the best practices for the development.

    If I put the camera in AI Servo it will auto focus if the subject is moving away or toward me with depress me back AF-ON or the shutter button? Or should I press one of these buttons to make the camera continues to focus?

    You know tutorials or video lessons that cross using update with the video?

    Thanks in advance!

    I don't know any tutorials, but more serious videographers say it is best to use only the manual focus.

    Trial and error is a good teacher, when it comes to video DSLR. You'll quickly learn that video Auto Focus is really bad with the 7 d and most of the people do not use it all together.

    The method that works for me is to use AF before the filming of the video and then adjust manually if you want to you to shoot the video. With the help of f/8 or f/11 to keep everything in short without having to keep the setting.

    More recent Canon DSLR's like the T4i, T5i, 70 d and SL1 have a "hybrid AF" that does a much better job of AF during video, but it is not yet as good as a camcorder
