  I use Windows Home Premium on my computer so that Windows Vista Business on virtual PC.

  I'm Switzerland French keyboard. Right Alt key works perfectly on Win Vista Home Premium normal while Win business it does not work.   In Windows Virtual PC, the right ALT key is configured as the host key in Virtual PC by default. You can change the host key in any other key as the ALT key and check if it helps.

  To change the key of the host used for Virtual PC

  1. Open the Virtual PC Console.
  2. On the file menu, click Options.
  3. Click on keyboard.
  4. The area of current host key , click the key name to select it, and then on the keyboard, press the key you want to use as the key of the host.

  The name of the new host key is displayed in the current host key box.

  To insert the keys as to the rate, hash, degree, you must press shift + @ to @ in the same way for the other keys also.

  Hello and seasons greetings! We have just received a new laptop DELL Alienware M17 X with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and a language french keyboard "AZERTY". The 'euro' symbol' is supposed to be obtained by typing 'Alt Gr + e'. It is impossible to activate it, regardless of the app in action, such as Word 2007 or Excel 2007. But we can get it - and print - by typing the ASCII code wich is "Alt + 0128. DELL support does not know how to solve the problem and you suggest to format the computer! Anyone have another simple solution more? Thank you very much.

  You have probably a French with a French keyboard (is it?), so everything should be OK...

  Your computer is probably configured for several keyboard layouts and a shortcut key was inadvertently pressed to switch between layouts (for example Canadian multilingual Standard or Canadian French maybe).
  Open Control Panel and go to the applet region and language . On the keyboards and languages tab, click Change keyboards. If you only want to the keyboard layout , select and then delete all the others listed in the general tab
  If you need several keyboard layouts, make sure that U.S. is on the top of the list and go to the tab Advanced settings key change or remove keyboard shortcuts to switch between keyboard layouts by selecting an option by clicking Change Key Sequence.
  If you have decided to keep several keyboard layouts, make sure that the Language bar is easily accessible from the Language bar anchored in the taskbar tab is a good setting here. If it is set, the keyboard icon will be present to the left of the Area of Notification (for example the system tray) when the Language bar is docked in the taskbar. This allows you to quickly switch between keyboard layouts.

  The directions above are suitable for Windows 7. There may be small differences is that you are using another operating system.

  I'll try to explain my problem better than I can. I run a Windows XP3 VM in VMWare Fusion 3.1.1. This medication is fine except that I can't type square brackets in my VM, which sucks when I use Visual Studio for coding in c#.

  After some research, I discovered this activation keyboard mappings of language (french in my case) in the preferences of VMWare creates, among other things, some mapping of AltGr (and AltGr) which replaces the default behavior, type the brackets. The problem is, I can't disable their selectively, it is a choice all or nothing. If the keyboard for the language mappings globally are unset, I lose a lot of Mac to the PC keyboard mappings, and I have to use the PC to my Mac keyboard layout, which is difficult.

  Ah actually I finally managed to install the drivers.

  My MBP CD does not seem to be organized as described in the TechNote (see screenshot) and it is not a "setup.exe" in the CD \Boot Camp\Drivers\. As I tried to install the keyboard driver just happens to be insufficient

  Now I tried again and ran "Bootcamp.msi" in \Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple\ and then, after an error on AppleHALSomething that I simply ignored, I was asked to reboot and bingo!

  Now it works but I had to disable the mapping of the French language in preferences VMWare keyboard - looks like this mapping of language for the french (and perhaps a few others) is not correct or / and is not compatible with the correct Apple keyboard layout in Windows XP.

  Last little problem: braces and backslash must be triggered using the shortcut Win instead of Mac - it's better than nothing (and the height with Parallels) and a key mapping should be able to fix thar

  It would be nice:

  -If possible, avoid the Bootcamp install step (as others do),

  -If not, to recommend to install Bootcamp and disable the integrated French language mapping.

  If you are familiar with the French keyboard layout, you can move from the keyboard to this provision.

  If not, you can acess of the accents you will need the English KB layouts using (for example) option-~, then press e to e, or -e option, then press e to e. see the viewer keyboard for other options. Open the keyboard Viewer, and then press option key to display the keys to use for each accent.

  If all the accents you need are not available from an English keyboard, you can still list a French KB language as a 'second choice' and switch to it when you need an accented letter.

  

  

  

  Choice of the keyboard are defined in system preferences > language and text > input sources. If you choose more KB a page layout, the entry menu (a flag) will appear in your menu bar. The indicator shows the currently active KB.
