Blu - Ray on Windows Media Player movies

I bought a HP Pavilion Elite HPE computer refurbished last July that included a blu-ray/dvd/cd player. I have windows 7 and have never had any problems, watch movies or play CDs until yesterday, May 19, 2012. I just bought a blu - ray movie after work and he put in my computer to watch and I got the message that windows media player can not play movies blu - ray on a virtual drive and can read them on a separate bd - rom drive. I was wondering why windows media player no longer plays blu - ray discs, and if he's not playing these kind of movies, how long is it able to read regular DVDs and CDs?

Hello txrkhound,

I suggest reviewing this thread on playback of Bluray discs in Windows 7:
The summary is that you will need to download third party software to play Bluray discs as Windows Media Player does not support it.
Windows Media Player will play DVDs and CDs, but not of Blurays.

    Hi Barbara,

You can use the player to burn a mixture of songs from the library of the drive or your computer to an audio CD, after which you can play the CD in any standard CD player. Alternatively, you can burn files on CD and DVD data. It is not possible to burn the live streams, such as radio stations, on a CD or a DVD.

My Kodak Zi8 video camera to use it. MOV format which do not play with the application Windows Media.  Does anyone know if there is an available Windows Update to resolve this problem?  I know that there are tools to convert the MOV format as AV1, but it's a bit complicated to do.  Y at - it a simple way to get the MOV file to play with Windows Media.  ITunes does not offer the features I want, for example to make a film of my video files.

MOV files are QUICKTIME from APPLE files and can be played in Windows Media Player without conversion.  You will need to find a converter to convert Quicktime to WMV files, if you don't like the AVI format. Bob Larson Access MVP

  • Blu - ray DVD don't play on my laptop when says that it comes with blue-ray program. Windows Vista Aspire 5520 G. Acer Arcade deluxe or windows media player

When I put in the dvd it happens on arcade deluxe acer appointed as if its going to play then returns to the page of game film and said "an essential element of the player requires periodic updates. new employees may not play if the critical component is not treated quickly. you want to update now? "Yes... not" I would then click on Yes, then, it makes my screen off for a few seconds then returns to game film I try to play the movie and he asks to the page again. What should I do I don't want to buy a new program like winDVD or powerDVD

If you just got the computer (and it sounds like that) contact the technical assistance service of the manufacturer of the computer (preferably by phone) -http://support.acer.com/ for Aspire 5520.  You may be able to get more details with the serial number of your system.  They will be happy to explain what's on your system, whether or not it can really handle discs Blu - Ray, this software to use to do (they will be able to see what they have installed on your system) and, if necessary, and even how to do because the system is almost new and certainly still under warranty.  I think you need special drivers for the drive (not to mention a disc that can play Blu - Ray discs) and the software may be special to deal with them, even if I am not sure (I don't think that Windows Media Player only is sufficient).  Arcade Delixe might do the trick (although it seems to be only an extension for WMP and unrelated to Blu - Ray), but you need to ask, because it is their software, their training and their computer.

    I hope this helps.

  • When windows media player will be able to play blu - ray?

One might think that in the 21st century windows media player keep upward over time. Of course I can buy the software from someone else, but why should I?

    Hello

WMP 12 8 win not only will not play Blu - Ray, he will not play ANY type of file or DVD movie disc...

It is because of licensing issues, and the fact that you can buy the software, or more so... even get free... is one of the reasons for Microsoft to do this...

A lot of drives\burners of DVD\Blu-Ray includes a player with the drive for free, besides other part 3ed sources...

Media Center will play if on DVD for $10 extra...

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the blu - ray files

I have a Blu - ray player in my laptop, so why can't windows media player play? and what can I do so that it will be?

    1. My first answer is the Google search for Blu - Ray Codecs
    2. My second answer is Google looking for a program to play the Blu - Ray (some are free, some are paid

I do not think that caught WMP supported by Blu - Ray, but Apple's iTunes, and its free to download for PC and Mac, but on PC it is a Devourer of real resources (RAM and processor). Now I don't know if this program works for Blu - Ray, but Media Player Classic home cinema SurgeForge (and not by Microsoft) plays most formats as long as the K-lite codec pack is installed. Both k - lite and media player classic home cinema (and not by Microsoft) are free to download and and findable by searching on Google.

Good luck in getting your Blu-Rays to play, at the moment I am looking at myself if my PC will play Blu-Rays at all.

You must have a third-party program to run Blu - ray discs.

Your new PC must have provided with software to play. Otherwise, I'd contact the manufacturer and see if she did or why it didn't.

My computer can read blu - ray, but when I try to play one, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disk has been created in a way that does not support the player. "How should I do?

    Hello

The Blu - ray disc format is not supported in Windows Media Player. To play a Blu - ray Disc, you must use a non-Microsoft program that supports playback of Blu ray and a device that can play Blu ray discs.

  • When Windows Media Player is available for Surface RT so that I can play my Disney movies to the digital copy are a format WMV DRM?

I have dozens and dozens of Disney films to digital copy in DRM'd WMV format that I downloaded from the packs of Disney DVD/Blu Ray / Digital Download that I bought.  They play fine on Windows Media Player on Windows 8 Pro.  But there is no media player everywhere where they will play on the Surface RT. I think it was very bad judgment and taste do not include Windows Media Player with Windows RT.  Before purchasing a program to remove the DRM and convert the file format, I have no way to watch the movies I paid for and legitimately possess as digital copies on my RT of Surface. The #1 reason why I bought a Surface RT was so that we can watch movies on the go. I'm really disappointed in the experience of the RT and the value for money. When Microsoft released Windows Media Player for Windows RT to correct this gross oversight?

    Hey there,

The short answer is probably never. Surface RT doesn't have a license to play DRM content, so unless Microsoft Gets a license, you will not be able to play your DRM WMV files... or can you?

Follow the steps in this link:

    http://www.surfaceforums.NET/forum/Pavtube-software-Studio/2397-transfer-play-digital-copy-movies-surface-RT-tablet.html

Basically, you need to download a DRM remover, run it and transfer it to the surface. It explains how to convert the format of WMV to mp4 say however, there are enough apps in the store play WMV files that you shouldn't have to be converted if you do not want. With respect to the transfer to the surface, personally, we use Skydrive, but you can use any method you want. In addition, you do not have to use the Remover suggested in the article, now that you know that they exist, you can search and find your own.

    I hope that helped!

M4A is not a compatible format. The simple solution
is to convert .m4a files in .wma format and
    then import into Movie Maker.

The following free Converter works for me...

    Free Mp3 Wma Converter
    http://www.download.com/free-MP3-WMA-converter/3000-2140_4-10442362.html
(FWIW if you install the converter, you can uncheck
offerings from Yahoo and Dealio) (also... you can uncheck
the CD Ripper and Easy MP3 Cutter)

I joined just thinking... the free VLC Media Player
and or Media Player Classic allows you to 'play '.
your files of .m4a... but they will have to if conversion
you want to use in Movie Maker.
