can a physical win 8 pro machine run a virtual win 7pro and winserver2008r2?

I am trying to run virtual player on your laptop win 8, install the os but when I try to power up the virtual machine I get the message "binary translation is incompatible with the long mode on this platform. Long mode will be disabled in this virtual environment. Applications that require a long mode does not work properly as a result"it passes control to 64-bit compatibility, but then the machine does not start say Intel VT - x can be disabled, I looked on the MS site and they suggest to activate the Hyper-V technology as a feature of windows but is not available for me because I am more likely does not not the pro version of win8.1 , My question is: the upgrade to win8.1pro will allow me to run Win7pro and/or winserver'08r2 VM on my laptop win 8? I want to keep trying to dual boot this machine that I heard that many problems can occur, but I don't want to pay $100.00 for the upgrade pro if it does not allow me to run VMS on it, any help?

You probably just turn on VT - x in the system BIOS.  See troubleshooting problems of Intel VT - x.

  • How can I install win 8 and win 7 on the same machine

I am running Win 7 Ultimate and want to install Win 8 Pro as an additional operating system without remove Win 7 and then have the ability to boot to one of the OS.

One possibility would be to run Windows 8 as VM on Windows 7, although it may not give the best experience.

Otherwise you're going to need another partition or another drive to install Windows 8 on. If you're talking about a laptop, then additional disks options are few but for a desktop computer, it is by far the best option.

Provide the original disc is not full shrink the current C: partition to create the ability for Windows 8 must be installed on the empty space is not so difficult, that's exactly what I did with my Acer Touch PC to allow me to test Windows 8 and it worked perfectly (no space for another drive). I could even point Windows 8 at the partition of Windows 7 to search for drivers for the unidentified material, and all have been resolved.

    Hello

As you probably know, the Toshiba Recovery disk is not the same as an original Microsoft disc.

The recovery disk contains an image and the use of the recovery disk will format the whole HARD drive and will remove all data stored on the HARD drive.

If you cannot keep the data on the HARD drive using the recovery disk because you will lose.

I think you need to back up the important docs before using the recovery disk.

    Hello:

Before attempting to install Vista, I have a set of recovery disks where you find all the drivers for Vista.

There will be none for your PC on the support page.

To help you get started, here are the links to the drivers I should work for your PC.

1 chip set. First, install and restart. First download is what you want.

  • List of all virtual machines running on a local storage

Y at - it a script when it is applied to the virtual center would show the virtual machines that are running on a local storage of an esx host.  We have about 40 esx running on virtual Center host and there are some VM running on local storage that we have to go offshore, but I need a list of these virtual machines.

If it helps the naming convention for the local storage data store is "exhostname_local".  This is the norm for all hosts.

    Any Advisor.

    It must be Friday

    Try it like this

    Get-Datastore local* | where {$_.ExtensionData.Host.Count -eq 1} | Get-VM -Location $_ | Select Name

  • Convert a physical Wins Server in a virtual machine for redundancy

    Hello world

Thanks in advance for your help.

We have just set up an emergency operations center and run thrus by an optical fiber (so, technically, it's the same network but with some redundant internet). And we would like to set up the servers to replicate all the production servers (wins, sql, apps... etc) at end of failover/redundancy. The best is to reproduce in live all the time... but less than a number of days can be very well. If something happens, systems can be "reactive" or better proactively kicks in.

Running on SAN cluster could be a solution... but we cannot have enough $ to build a San now.

I would like to ask if VMWare provide all product that can take a snapshot or perform replication from all Wins servers to a virtual machine by a calendar environment. I think that virtual machine, because we don't have to buy new hardware while double set.

    Vcenter is for this?

    Any suggestion would be great.

    Thank you very much.

    Takami Chiro

Software double-take doues not need to be run on a cluster - it can be physical or virtual, and yes it can replicate a server on a virtual machine - vmware converter will allow you to P2v physical machine, but it will be a manual process.

Yesterday, I downloaded the upgrade to El Capitan in a Mac Pro (early 2008) running Yosemite 10.10.5, and today I can not start the upgrade.

The only option I have found is to click again on the download button, but the circle of download rest bike for a long time and ultimately that nothing happens.

    See if that helps...

Start with CMD + r or the Option/alt key to boot from the recovery partition & use utility disk from there to repair the disk, and then repair permissions.

Since you posted your product key on a public web site, it has now
almost certainly already been copied and used by hackers all over the
world. This means that Microsoft disables this button so it can't be
    more used.

Please, in the future, never publish your key like this.

But leaving that aside for the moment, to answer your question, if
It is a key to the retail sale, Yes, you can use it on another computer. If it's a
    OEM key, no you can't.

  • I deleted the partition system, pure can not install Win 7 Pro because of the error message

So, I tried to install Windows 10 on a friends old PC (acer aspire 5920g). I bought a new SSD and traded with the HARD disk, performed a clean install of win 10 and realized that I should return to Win 7 after that too many things were not working well. So, I formatted the disk (230 GB) and system reserved partition. (I took the SSD and put it in an external enclosure that I have connected to my PC to 10 Win.)
I didn't know much about this system reserved partition but read that it didn't really need when you want to perform a clean installation of another OS. After the partition reserved for formatting system, he said 500 GB of unallocated space. I didn't quite understand that the reader is a 240 GB Sandisk SSD. I put the other (230GB) partition to active and primary with the management tool disc to win 10.
I put in the Win 7 DVD and change the setting of this kind it would be DVD first the bios startup. However, the Win 7 installation dialog does not appear at all. Instead BACK gives me this message: 'an operating system not found. Try disconnecting all drives that do not contain an operating system. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart. »

I tried different startup commands but did not get any result. What should I do next? How can I make a simple clean install of Windows 7 Pro (on the new SSD)?

There are no problems reported by those who follow these steps for a Clean install Windows 10 Upgrade

then you might want to try again and this time stick to these steps.

Otherwise clean reinstall Windows 7 you can turn on with the installation media checked in the player by pressing F12 to Acer to get a Boot Menu, choose the bootable media, custom Setup, to the selection screen of disc to remove all partitions until the unallocated space, and then click next to leave automatic formatting and start the installation.  With the Installer do the partition creation and formatting avoid you unnecessary problems second guess the necessary system partitions and you can ignore all this.

All the other things you did remove the HDD to format in another PC were unnecessary because that's all that is needed.  If other installation problems arise when it's properly you must follow these additional steps to fix failed Installation Windows 7 , that cover all possible problems.

  • Can I put Win XP Pro directly with Win 7 Enterprise

Currently our machine running Windows XP Professional, but we would like to upgrade to Windows 7 Enterprise, so do upgrade us directly?

    Hello

Why do you want that Windows 7 Enterprise - will you be part of a domain?

    Upgrade to Windows 7, XP
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/upgrade

Which requires an Installation custom, as explained in the foregoing who does not keep the
    settings, programs or data.

    -----------

First check that the system can run Windows 7 and that the main devices and software
    Windows 7 are compatible.

Run the Upgrade Advisor, and check with the center of compatibility for your key features. Also
some system manufacturers have the online help and information for the upgrade to Windows 7.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - run this http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx

    Also check the Compatibility Center

I am not sure that you need tips to make it work with Win7.  Here is the page of software & drivers for the printer.  I have Win7 32 bit.  If you want to use the 64-bit version, you can simply select it.  It seems that all you need is listed.

  • All of a sudden can only run a virtual machine on a workstation to 12G, used to be able to run at least three

After years of use of my computer, I have a problem suddenly as the likes of which I've never seen elsewhere.  On a machine that was able to run three virtual computers, I now get error messages when I try to run more than one.

The message I get is displayed as an attachment.  It indicates only 1192 MB is available for the second virtual machine, I try to run.  See error message when you try to run a second virtual machine.png

The preferences that I set myself for VMWare Workstation show until 9210 MB should be available for virtual machines.  See the preferences.png workstation.

Who is running when I try to launch a second is set to use 2 GB.  See machine running virtual preferences.png

Resource monitor shows also that it should be 5376 available MB.

I'm puzzled.  What could happen?  How can I solve this?

    I am running 8.0.1 build-528992.

    find your config.ini file
    Win7: C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini
    XP and 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini

and change or add these 2 lines
    prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = "FALSE".
    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = '0 '.

These settings should allow you to assign 12 GB of RAM or more for your virtual machines
If this is not the case - I would switch to 7.1.4

    Hi Letstub,

There is no need to evacuate your virtual machines from the vSwitch. Enable or disable CDP has no impact on the communications of the network of virtual machines. The following article that explains how to enable CDP mentions this prerequisite:
