Can I reuse a license for Windows 7 from my old computer?

I plan on building a whole new PC.  I bought a retail version of Windows 7 that I initially installed on my old computer.  I intend to use Windows 7 on the new PC.  Can I just put my CD with Windows 7 at retail in the new computer and transfer the license to the new machine?

Yes, as long as it's the product 'Full' and not an 'Upgrade' version The phone activation will be required.

  • reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

We have 4 old desktop computers with windows xp I want to reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

I bought a HP desktop computer and dell preinstalled with Windows XP. The office has not worked for a few years, he has the processor are P4 and slow work.

I recently bought a desktop computer and wanted to know can I use the same license key to get Windows XP installed on my new desktop computer.

Note: I have lost my original installation of windows CD but have the office and Windows XP product code is available to me.

The old HP desktop and dell came with a license with the sticker on the side.

Any PC which came with a sticker with a key to activate product on it has a license that is related to this PC (and only this PC) for ever. It is not legal to install on a PC using the key videos from another PC.

If the PC you want to install XP on still has its sticker, then as much as you have a compatible installation XP CD, XP can be re-installed using the key on the sticker.

Only commercial versions of XP can be moved from one PC to another. With the commercial versions, the activation key came with the media, not on a label stuck on the PC.

  • How can I transfer a license of Windows 7 on a new computer? Step by step please

Hey guys, I just build my first computer and I don't want to use the HARD drive from my old computer to the new. I was wondering if there is some way I can transfer my Windows 7 license from the old computer to my new computer? I would be grateful if someone could answer with step by step instructions. Hello!

If you have an OEM of Windows license (which is pre-installed when you purchased your PC) on the old computer and want to use it on a new computer (PC with another motherboard), it is not possible.

If you have a retail license (if you bought separately):

1 note your product key: use a program like Nirsoft Produkey to get
     http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
    2. on the old PC uninstall product key:
Start-> Accessories-> right click on command prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
slmgr.vbs /dlv---> to display the Activation ID for the installed version of Windows.
slmgr /upk ---> where is the extracted string in the message box that appears in the previous step
    3. on the new PC use this product key during installation or change it after installation
in the product key from the old computer with:
slmgr IPK , where is your product key.

The OEM of Windows 8.0/8.1 license is related to the motherboard and not the hard drive, so you can reuse the new hard disk provided his will in the same computer.

About the old drive you need not to worry about the formatting as the old disk can never be reused. If you want to be sure, you can physically break the old disk with a hammer before throwing.

Product keys are not sold separately, but you can buy a license for sale at retail and use the packaging product key:

Microsoft is no longer at the price of Windows 7 because it ended sales in October 2013, so you will have to turn to third party providers who might still have in stock. Please note, due to demand and scarcity, there could be no available retail license and you may have to settle for licenses OEM System Builder, which are just as effective but come with license restrictions (which to be honest, are not a lot of weight, given that all future versions of Windows are full anyway (Windows 8.1 and later) versions. Please note that you must purchase the corresponding edition that corresponds with the drive you have:

what I have to buy a new copy of windows vista?

    Hello

If vista is preinstalled, motherboards change should be done in conjunction with the manufcacturer of the computer

preinstalled OEM licenses are tired to the original material on which they are installed

the license dies when the computer dies

If a retail license, you can change morherboards

  • Portege R500 - Toshiba does sell OEM licenses for Windows 7

    Hello

I have a Portege R500 with Windows XP.
I have now installed a version of Windows 7 without activation to see if all the drivers are working (Windows 8 is not supported I know).

Everything looks good and Windows tells me now as planned, it is not authentic and propose to buy the license, but when I go to MS it fails (it seems that MS sells not more Windows 7).

Toshiba sells licenses for Windows 7 for a R500 OEM?

It would be a shame to throw it away because of this.

    Thank you
    Markus

All you can do is to order a Toshiba Recovery disk.
The recovery disc contains exactly the same operating system that was preinstalled on the laptop on the first day of purchase.

In your case, this means that you will get the recovery with Win XP OS disk.

As Timox said: If you want to use the other system than Win XP, you must purchase the Microsoft operating system.
