can I save my iPad on my time machine airport?

I have a time machine airport I tired to backup my mac pro book. Can I also use it to save an iPad or iPhone or an other macbook?

iOS devices like the iPad and iPhone to iTunes on your computer... or... to iCloud.

IF... your iOS backup on iTunes on a Mac computer... when the computer to backup using Time Machine backups of your iPhone / iPad are thus saved.  So iOS devices can save some indirectly if you back up your Mac.

How can I save my iPad in ITunes or iCloud 3 when the screen is black and nothing appears?

Is the empty screen, because just the screen is broken, or is the iPad just dead? Have you tried a soft-reset/reboot it?

At least you can see what you touch on the screen of the iPad, you cannot force a backup to iCloud.

If the iPad still works and is connected to wifi, a backup should automatically happen (if iCloud backups are enabled) if it is connected and the locked screen.

  • How can I save a USB on my time capsule with time machine?

    Hello

I just bought an external USB flash/thumb drive, believing I could extend the memory of my currently complete macbook (OS X 10.7.5), while maintaining an up-to-date backup of everything on my Time Capsule. (I was planning on dumping my pictures/videos on the new USB and free up space on my macbook).

I already formatted the flash drive USB is now 'Mac OS external (journaled). I then tried to remove the exclusion of preferences list flash drive Time Machine (by selecting 'options' and then selecting the '-' button to remove the disc highlighted). He appears to remove the USB key at this point and allows me to save and close the options box, however it is always not backup external USB drive on a Time Capsule format.

Subsequently, on rechecking the box Option Time Machine preferences, the disc that I just removed from the exclusion list, is back on the list!

The impression that I'm going in circles... Is there something that I am missing, or another way to automatically back up this drive?

    Thank you very much.

First of all, unless you intend to keep the reader flash connected all the time, is really no interest in what you want to do. Simply copy the data from a backup other than the Time Machine backup disk drive.

  • Restore the iPad App via Time Machine?

Let's see if I can explain it clearly without writing a novel...

We used iBank on a series of iPads in Quicken replacement.  iBank was wonderful.

A few days ago, we decided to accept the upgrade to the new version of the App.  The upgrade has changed the name of the application of Banktivity 5.0.3.

After the update the app is more responsible, is back with ' an error occurred during the migration of permanent storage' and when we hit OK you get the spinning wheel of death, eternally.  Fearing yet another Apple HW question I made the mistake to immediately an iPad manual backup because I did not know when the last of them automatic was and I didn't lose anything else on the iPad.

The iPad is running 9.3.1 model number MD516LL/a H/W.

We have iTunes to save 'automatically' iPad 'to this computer.  We do not use the cloud.

I had an exchange of mail with the support of the IGG, but when we walked in the restoration of a previous automatic backup on the iPad, they were out of their depth.  I have no complaint with their support, they do not know where are stored the backups or how to proceed.

So, that's where it gets interesting/frustrating.

I try to use Time Machine to restore the App from a previous version in iTunes and then sync to iPad.

I do not see the backup files to iPad specific laptop I use for backup "automatic" iTunes "to this computer.  I see the list of applications on the iPad iTunes in the ' users > Shared > iTunes > directory of Mobile Applications.  I'm going back in time in Time Machine to find the last backup the previous version of iBank has or Banktivity iTunes before 5.0.3... in the hopes of restoring just that specific app and data...

... Previous Time Machine backups have iBank or Banktivity listed in the applications!  I have looked far and sought to my heart's content, but none are here.  All other applications will appear in the list, but not iBank or Banktivity.  Now, I'm stumped... Why would not appear anywhere in the last backups?

Having lost all historical and current in the iBank data are a pretty big disaster if I don't want to take the risk of ruining more by doing a partial or full restore iPad without understanding why the previous of iBank versions and/or Banktivity do not appear in the lists before the last manual of Time Machine backup?

The iPad is an ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Real applications are not stored in the backup (which contains the content of applications, your settings, documents, photos etc), restoration (backups are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/on a Mac, a backup is not designed to be readable by the user) would look to pick up the application of the section My Apps from your iTunes library - so looking for a old backup iPad in Time Machine won't help your find the app.

As to why the app does not appear in your Time Machine backup of your folder "Mobile Applications", looking for the correct name of the application (the name that shows in your iTunes Apps my chapter cannot be the same as the file real .ipa computer/time Machine; some of my friends have very different names)?

  • How can I partition my external drive? (Time Machine)

    Hello

Time Machine doesn't accept my external drive (Seagate Backup Plus thin, 2 TB). It takes the format: "Mac OS extended (journaled):

So I searched Google and found out, that I have to partition the external flash drive.

So I opened the disk utility. But then I can't partition:

What can I do? I really need to use Time Machine.

My laptop: MacBook Air, 13', mid 2013

    Thanks for the responses,

    Tlumi

The drive must be formatted with a GUID partition map, your's with a Master Boot record.

You can copy the content to the Seagate to your mac and format it correctly, partition and copy the data back?

  • Can record data on a partition of time machine?

I am able to put things on a partition that is used for time machine without screwing something up? As the partition that has the "Backups.backupdb" folder which I assume has the stuff of time machine in it. Can I copy other files in the partition (but not in this case, of course)?

I never mix the backups with the raw random data even on the same disk.  Too much chance to "random data" operations damage the backup partition information.

    Any ideas?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

    ls -@BOaen L*/Safari | pbcopy

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. I tested these instructions only with the Safari browser. If you use another browser, you may need to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) below what you entered.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produces no output, the Clipboard is empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window does not display the output. Please do not copy from there.

  • You can use migration assistant to transfer the time machine backup external hard drive?

Hello. I just bought a new macbook pro with a 256 GB flash drive to replace my previous macbook pro that had a breakdown of all the systems. My problem is that I have a time machine backup that is greater than 256 GB (it's almost 450 GB) and I try to find out if I can use migration assistant to transfer all the content directly on an external hard drive, then move the content I want on my hard drive from the external hard drive? My goal is to let my music and photos on the external hard drive and for all port hardware I need for work.

I don't have access to another mac with storage well enough that I have the old HD so could potentially be installed in an external enclosure and extracted files directly from there if it's easier.

What I intend to do in the long term is to buy a big external hard drive network and put all my photos, music etc over there and use the laptop as expected - that is for files from day to day - then it will be just a short-term problem.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Thank you

    Nick

Migration Assistant is user to transfer data from one computer to the other.  If I read your post correctly, you want to copy your data from Time Machine on another HARD disk.  Thia may be useful:

  • How can I remove multiple backups of my Time Machine drive

My time machine drive has reached the point where you have to delete an old backup before it completes a new backup.  Is it possible to delete several backups (e.g. all 2014 and 2015 ups 25%) since the Time Machine disk at the same time?  I know how to delete a backup but want to delete several at once.

By removing the old back ups, remove the first one made or that it has the basic material on which TM all backups are built?

    MacBook Pro 2011

    El Capitan

    16 G RAM

    1 TB SSD drive.

Time Machine drive is 2 TB.

    Thank you

I came across exactly the same problem earlier this year. The best answer I found was here: thegreyblog.blogspot.com/2014/03/shrink-your-time-machine-backups-and.html in short, Time Machine, always create a full backup, not an incremental backup. So, no, you don't cause damage by removing one. I did it without adverse consequences. Second, use the tmutil command to delete old backups. sudo tumtil gives you the full list. I wrote a bash command line script, as the author points out. I deleted everything I had since last year, from the first backup performed in October, with:

    $ sudo tmutil listbackups

    Password:

    / Volumes/Seagate backup more Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/2016-01-01-003303

    / Volumes/Seagate backup more Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/2016-01-02-005714

There was a lot more lines, what we are after here is the location to be used in the next line. In my case it has/Volumes/Seagate Backup more Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/ you need do the same thing, use it-before all the spaces in the path as shown below. Below, I've used 2015-1 * because the mine began in October 2015. I have therefore of 2015-10, 11 and 12. If you want to get rid of all 2015 you can use 2015-*. If you want to get rid of everything before October, you can use 2015-0 * which would remove 01,02,03,... 09 to 2015.

    $ sudo tmutil disable local

    (Here a line.)

    $ for i in/Volumes/Seagate\ Plus\ Backup\ Drive/Backups.backupdb/mkauffmanmbp/2015-1*; tmutil delete "$i"; fact

    $ sudo tmutil activate local

    I hope this helps!

    Happy new year!

  • Can I do a differential restore from Time Machine?

I have a user who has a file structure that lists many companies, each company has its own folder, and inside each folder there is a file called "Notes.docx. This means that each company has a generic file called notes:

    Companies folder

    File of the company 1

    Notes.docx

    Business account 2

    Notes.docx

    File of the company 3

    Notes.docx

I've already made conscious, that this is a bad idea because it can identify files specific notes difficult, however this isn't the problem.

The problem is that there are hundreds of records of the company , and it appears that many files of notes are missing at random. I don't understand not what causes some of them should be deleted, but not all, but that's where we are. To further complicate the issue, that he did not have a Time Machine backup since 3 months ago, so simply rolling the MBP back is not an option. Currently she does is he finds a company that does not contain the file notes that it connects to the time Machine and restores a single file.

Of course the way he does now is not very effective and will take considerable time. I'm looking for is an option that would make a differential comparison on its records of the society and those who lack the file notes , unroll the previous version of time Capsule. Is this possible? I'm also open to other suggestions, thank you all!

Time Machine can do in one shot... If you retrieve a directory on the existing directory... Yes, I think it will be...

Be smart... Copy the directory to a new location existing.

Then do a restore of this directory of backup TM in the same place... let run and then check the results. Look particularly for situations where known files could be early version on the last copy.

    Moreover,.

I could do this in two steps.

1 retrieve the entire repertoire... without doubt, all the records of the company are in the folder documents or something on his computer.

You can go to TM and retrieve the directory to another location.

2 copy the directory from the original. Be smart of course use a copy of terminal as rsync command. Just look to the top of the rsync command... you don't need to be pushed eggs... but being smart of course... do not do without a trial on the copy of its directory with all the files of the company first to make sure it isn't wasting. I just googled for rsync command to file update from the source to the target.

    rsync - v h - r Pei t source target

This transfers only new files and files already existing but put to update the:

    The parameters in detail:

    • -h: numbers readable human
    • -v: talker
    • -r: recurse into directories
    • -P: --partial (keep partially transferred files) +.
      --progress(show progress during transfer)
    • -t: preserve modification times
  • problem of time machine Airport: finder does not

    Hello

I use a time capsule from the airport. The connection works fine.

However, I was doing a few files "organized" in the records of the airport and all of a sudden the finder would not respond. I tried to 'Force quit' the finder and start again or turn off 30 seconds time capsule, but the result is the same for a few days now. When I return to my main folder in capsule, automatically the finder is unresponsive and I have to restart the finder.

One of the reasons could be that when I was doing 'organized' files (like move one folder to another, etc.) he too complicated (large files) and then the thing all jammed.

Anyway, if you guys might have a solution for me, this would not lose all my files I appreciate.

Thank you very much for your time.

    All the best,

    Florent

PS: I'm using an Imac, Yosemite, version 10.10.03

Nothing will fix itself without some spoil your files... Something has stuck at halfway between the two and is now corrupted. Unfortunately, Finder can not work around the problem... If you did this correctly, you can use disk utility to solve the problem... but you cannot run disk on TC utility because it is a network drive.

You have three choices I see...

One that suits that I listed last.

1 make the cleaning of the Terminal file. It's hard I think because you do not know which files you were moving around in time. And work of the terminal is for real experts or you can do more damage than you started with.

    2. use a windows computer connected to the CT... that sounds crazy, I know, but you will not crash explore like you do finder. Fix up (remove all the files that are half way moved). If you have been for example copy of records. (travel is not a method Apple uses... so what do you mean by moving?)

Delete the moved folder... Make sure you have all the files elsewhere of course.

    3. There is a way around that could save...

In airport utility go to the disk tab and select archive.

You need to connect a Mac to format USB stick capacity equal or superior to all the files on the TC, including backup (tell me, you need not backup)... you can't be selective. And start archiving. Once you have it on a hard drive which you can then plug your computer... you can run the utility disk on it and fix the problems before opening finder... Once you have done this... Erase the zone folder on TC and copy it to the back of the USB drive repaired. This method may work best... it will cost you a USB... BTW, which is how you should have done this...

Now the rap on the fingers. You can stop reading now...

NEVER USE A NETWORK DRIVE TO YOUR HAND WITHOUT A BACKUP FOLDERS.

When you handle files... do you not understand that each file must be copied TC - computer - TC. If you do more wireless... corruption is inevitable.

All the key files should be on the local drive... A USB plugged into the computer is fine... but active faster the better... libraries and files will end by corrupted if you use files on a network resource and access more wireless... even on ethernet, it can not not... but more wireless, it's inevitable. Apple didn't build protection in the TC to work as a file server. You use software designed for local use.

Always save... If this happened and you had the worst backups that could happen is that you need to clear the TC and copy the files back.

Keep this and you will eliminate not only a few files but loads of them... maybe all.

A time Capsule is not designed for running your files of overload... Plug in a USB key or faster in particular the iMac is great hassle since you can use in powered car and hide behind the computer... The TC is for your TM backups. Dragging files to it... you have now no way back up since the TC cannot save itself and Time Machine backup network drives impossible.

    End rap.

I just download El Capitan to my IMac mid 2007.  I can't find my application.  Where is he? How can I get?

    Thank you

By 'lost', do you mean the app disappeared completely? Upgrade to El Cap should not 'remove' the app.

Newer versions of Aperture are compatible with El Cap.

Go to Finder - Applications - see if your app opening is there.

If so, has he the "circle with a line" above?
