You can use a scheduled task to run the shutdown.exe command.  Discover the Scheduler of tasks and shutdown.exeand see if it looks like it fits your needs.  You can tell shutdown.exe to shut down the computer in a specified number of minutes, then maybe you don't even have a task scheduled to tell the system to stop at some point - rather, just run the shutdown command when you start working on the computer at night. You can even set up a shortcut to run the program, so you don't have to type the command each time.

    Make sure your data and Money backup files are in Documents or another non-protected area, not the default money Program Files or changes and updates will not be saved.

    If your hard drive is formatted with NTFS (my computer > right click on disk Local (c) > properties), then you can use NTFS permissions.

    You can - and should - set a password to access your XP user profile.  Click Start > Control Panel > user accounts (you may need to double click on user accounts).  Select your account and click on "Create a password." If you have a floppy drive, you can also create a password reset disk. Otherwise, write down your password and keep it somewhere safe.

    Are there other people who use your computer?  Each person should have their own user account.  By default, user accounts that are not "computer administrator" accounts cannot see the files in my documents to other user accounts.
