Can I switch to Windows 8.1 pro without problem?

I use HP Pavilion dv - 6 3101tx, i7-720, Radeon 5650 M, 8 GB RAM and 1 TB HARD drive. I wanted to update to windows pro 8.1 my friend bought me a copy as a gift, I will face any problems upgrading to it as affecting the reader of fingerprints, the touch screen and all other major drivers?

Dear customer,

Welcome and thanks for posting your question on the Forum of Support HP

Looks like you experience confusion if it need to update your current Windows to Windows 8. 1

It becomes difficult to find a software driver for all the hardware components of your notebook. Not all the features would also work to smooth what she now. Personally if I share my experience, I would go not to upgrade that becomes more

awkward due to the unavailability of pilots.

Please keep in mind that the HP recovery DVDs to return your laptop to Windows 8.0. New plant, all user data gone. Keep in mind that an upgrade to 8.1 Windows corrupting your recovery partition (Windows 8.0), so you'll be back with the same problem if Windows 8.1 (still) has a problem.

    Can I switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 by installing Windows 7 without uninstalling XP?

    Yes, and in fact you must do in order to qualify for the upgrade price.  You must realize, however, this update of XP to 7 involves a "custom installation" - that is, you must save your data first (on external support) and to reinstall all your applications after that Win 7 is running.

    Under certain circumstances, installing Windows 7 might create a windows.old file, but it's not clear to me what is stored in memory in the transition from XP to 7. you will certainly be able to run one of your older applications without having to reinstall them.  See, for example, http://www.chron.com/business/silverman/article/Going-from-Windows-XP-to-Windows-7-It-s-not-1609463.php

  • Can I switch from Windows XP Pro to Windows XP Pro Corporate

    I have a machine Windows XP Pro can I switch to Corporate?

    There is no such thing.  There is 'Windows XP Home Edition' and 'Windows XP Professional Edition. "  He was never an Enterprise edition.  And given that Windows XP has been withdrawn from the market for several years now is no longer legitimate any source for the licenses and software.

  • Compatibility with Windows 7 says I can improve my system to Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Ultimate edition. Also, can I switch to Windows 7 Pro?

    Vista to Win 7 Pro

    I ran Win 7 compatibility program on my laptop Vista HP Pavilion DV9700 Core 2 Duo and he said that I can upgrade to Home Premium or Ultimate.  What is Pro? (I Pro works on an old Toshiba P4 laptop...)

    Yes, it can run Windows 7 Professional, but you can do a custom installation.

    The reason why he recommend Home Premium or full, is because there is no place in Windows Vista Edition upgrade Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. Windows Vista Home Premium is only supported in place of ultimate or home edition Premium upgrade paths, this means that your personal files, installed applications and settings will be preserved.

    When important changes to your computer, for example an upgrade, it is always recommended that you back up your system before installing a new version of Windows. In your case, you can upgrade to Windows 7 depending on the edition and the architecture of Windows Vista, you have installed. If you are running a 32-bit version of Vista and upgrade to a 64-bit (Windows 7 edition) version, you'll have a pure make install, it is the opposite case.

    If you are using Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium consumer editions, you can only upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. In addition, you can make downgrades, which means, if you are running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition now, you cannot downgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. You perform logical upgrades:

    Windows Vista Home Basic > Windows 7 Home Basic, Premium or Ultimate

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium > Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate

    Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Professional, enterprise or ultimate edition

    Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Enterprise

    Windows Vista Ultimate > Windows 7 Ultimate.

    Your Windows XP installation qualifies for the Windows 8 upgrade, but you will not be able to make a direct upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 8. You will need to reinstall your programs and drivers.

  • Why is it I can't switch between windows without minimize FireFox?

    When I have several applications in different windows open and I use Firefox (FF) browser I must first reduce the FF window to display a file in another window of the application like Excel. Sometimes, when I have two windows (for example, a chat window) open in FF, I just can't get the chat window to move to the top without first minimizing FF. The chat window immediately moves to the back w/o first reducing my FF window current.

    These problems do not occur in Internet Explorer.

    Hi Yachtmeister,
    This can happen when you leave Firefox open for a long period of time. This is perhaps one of the scripts on the page froze.

  • Satellite A300 - 1 MM-can I switch to Windows 8?

    Hello!

    I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A300 - 1 MM.
    It is Windows Vista, which is preinstalled.
    I can it move to Windows 8?
    Thanks for the tips.

    In general your old A300 is not supported for Wn8. It is supported for Win7 only. Not same A500 is supported for upgrading Win8.
    I have also, but running with Win7 32 bit and I m very happy with it.

    As far as I know that Vista Win8 upgrade is not supported so that you can try is to install Win7 and install the upgrade for Win8. With the drivers and especially with Toshiba Utilities and tools can be a bit problematic, but you can try to use the stuff proposed for the new model of laptop.

    Unfortunately on this forum we don't have much information about these updates.
    If you try to install Win8 thanks for posting comments.

  • How can I switch from Windows Vista to Windows 7

    Original title: Windows 7

    My HP laptop came pre-installed with Microsoft Vista OS. How can I change to Windows 7?

    Hello NareshDadlani,

    You must verify that your hardware of PCs will supports Windows 7, therefore, you must visit the HP site and check that the Windows 7 drivers are available for your PC.

    Windows 7, is of course, is no longer provided by Microsoft, so you can use scouring eBay or Amazon to see if a copy is legitimate is available. Like most of the software there are many out there pirated copies so be wary.

    You can also check if you can run Windows 8.1 instead. This will bring you bang up-to-date with the latest operating system. You can download the Wizard Windows 8 upgrade from this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8 the link to the upgrade wizard is in the second paragraph.

  • When can I switch to Windows 8.1

    I tried twice to install Windows 8.1 free update of my software on my Windows 8 desktop application.  Both times after the installation is completed without error messages on reboot the PC program-controlled would not start and had to start in safe mode and run the recovery.  The failure of several attempts to reboot.  Therefore, I had to reinstall all my programs.

    I visited the HP site for the upgrade to 8.1 Windows several times and when I entered my product code I get the following message:

    HP has not tested this PC with Windows 8.1

    For this reason, HP is unable to provide instructions to update or Windows 8.1 drivers. If you try to update your system, you may lose stability and basic features.

    I bought this PC in November 2013 and it seems that there is a new most popular PC and now it would have been tested.  Please let me know when and how can I upgrade to Windows 8.1.

    Thank you

    Nicholas Linenberger

    I suggest to read this before you start:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03847367

    It may not yet show that it is compatible with Win 8.1, but this does not mean that it is not.  I checked your specifications and you are allowed to update.

    Before doing so, remove all devices, except the keyboard and mouse.

    If you have Norton trial software, uninstall it using the site Norton removal tool:

    https://support.Norton.com/SP/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

    If any other anti virus programs installed, disable them temporarily.

    Go to this site and update the BIOS, if not already done.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?OS=4132&LC=en&cc=us&DLC=en&sw_lang=&product=5399024#N2295

    Now, go to the store to get the 8.1 Windows Windows update and install.

    You need a version of Vista running to upgrade it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.
    Restore point:
    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...
    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
