  Check the specs of the screen.   Some do not offer the same resolution on all ports.

  Try not to use adapters.  If the display has DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort, connect it to the port Thunderbolt of the Mac with a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort cable.

  In my view, the windows license is linked to your motherboard. You can install / reinstall windows XP with the same license / product key that its meant to be on the same computer n number of times.
