• How can I improve the contrast of black and white etc?

  I pulled almost all my hair trying to accomplish a simple task. I've searched and searched and cannot find how simply take an old photo n & B and make black black and white whites. Each unique search led to convert an image color in B & W, I have an old photo I want to make it look like a good image of B & W. Shoud I scan him in GS or RGB? IM using CS3, so be careful I may not have some of the features of the most recent PS. either a link, or if someone could get through the first steps, I'd be very happy. Here is a link to the photo.   It's actually not so bad.  The black point is just a little loose, but there a lot of full white pixels.

  

  A layer of subtle curves give a totally black content, but you can see how the histogram gets gappy even with this small adjustment.  Work in 16-bit with B & W to give you a range of tones complete.  This is if your scanner display to 16-bit.

  Restore your computer to a point before the updates being installed with the System Restore.  Then proceed as follows:

  1. go in Control Panel , and then select Windows Update.

  2. click on check for updates.

  3. once the results come back, click on the link that shows Important updates and deselect all the updates except the first 3 or almost and install the updates.

  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until you receive the error message.
