  I received a short time trying to configure vmware 5 for virtualizing office in a university setting. Especially for our laboratories and public machines. I have a few thin clients from Wyse, I can try with Dell

  We are a single network MS most of the time. I have been using HyperV about everything for a while.  But VMware and the structure baffles me.

  I just set up a test environment for a few thin clients. I need someone to straighten out the mess of servers required for vmware view

  Servers connection composer, ESXI,... etc.

  What must be a physical server? Can I install several things on a server? can I install anything on a hyperV VM to test or all should there be physical?  My Manager gave me a server unfortunately exceeded to try this and I think it's impossible. How can I install everything first?  VMWare for Dummies anyone?

  The basic components:

  * Shared storage - iSCSI, fiber, NAS (not recommended, but an option for a small number of workstations or for verification). In addition, required hardware (Ethernet or fiber) of switching.  You can use local storage, but you lose your availability with vMotion or light HA.

  * ESXi host (s) - the number depends on the size of the environment.

  * SQL 2005 + database - physical or virtual.

  * Active Directory

  * Good MS licenses depending on the type of clients you are going to use. Example: You may have to pay for the VDA licenses, if you use clients which don't run Windows natively to connect to virtual desktops.

  * Computers desktop, laptops, zero customers or clients to access virtual desktops.

  * Discover the connection to the server - physical or virtual (Virtual is recommended).

  * vCenter Server - physical or virtual (Virtual is recommended).

  * Security Server - it is used to tunnel securely sessions of WAN links to your connection/Server Manager view if you want clients to be able to connect securely from the outside or to secure your network part where connection (s) are located.

  Basically, install you ESXi on your physical boxes, build your decision-making supported virtual servers, lift the display and running management environment, then start to build your virtual desktop and create then pools that your client devices will connect to the.

  I don't think one host will be sufficient for to accomplish you everything and it is not really a good test because you will not get the high availability features or vMotion and looks that you have no access to the shared storage.

• Hyper-v Desktop 7 test

  I use vmware workstation 7 and created an ESXi cluster with two nodes and virtual center. I used openfiler for iSCSI. (I have my VCP3.x and I turn my VCP to 4 and a test environment is best practice).

  Inside this group, I run a debian linux guest. I can do a migration and other major tests!

  My computer is a laptop Dell Studio with an I7 from Intel and 4 GB of ram (I get a 8 GB, but now is to exspensive)

  After testing vSphere, I was curious to Xenserver 5.5

  I installed a cluster of Xen on my vmware workstation. This time I have not use NFS shared storage of my openfiler iSCSI (iSCSI gives some problems with Xenserver running on Openfiler). And YES! It worked, I even managed to run a prompt inside Xenserver (I used to run within Xen virtual appliance LAMP). All free options work (such as live migration)

  Now, I want to test Hyperv, to get the knowledge of all the popular products of VM (and advice with good reason vsphere )... but I can't start any guest...

  If anyone can find a workaround to run Hyperv with comments on VM workstation... Please let me know... If someone wants to have information on configuring ESXi or Xenserver on VMworkstation with openfiler... send me a message.

  There is no work around for XENserver with invited Windows and HyperV - he does simply because a virtual machine has no VT support

• HP ProBook 4340 s UEFI PXEbooting.

  I am trying to install windows 7 with uefi since a deployment server windows (server with MDT update 1 2012 2012 load).  It works well in the old bios boot mode, but I want it to work as well in the UEFI.

  However when I put the laptop (ProBook 4340 s) UEFI boot mode and pxeboot. After he download wdsnbp.com I get just met by the error screen

  According to the documentation update of mdt 2012 1 do both UEFI and Bios Legacy Boot.wim compatible and that it should "work" so I think that the problem is with the WDSNBP (wdsnbp.com/bootmgfw.efi/pxeboot.com) files. Or that the laptop does not support pexbooting in uefi to a wds mode.

  As far as I know, after much taken with this problem. I have concluded that the 4340 s of HP ProBook. Does not support the Pxebooting mode UEFI.

  It does, however work on Pxeboot in Legacy bios mode.

  If anyone can confirm this?

  with the release of vWorkspace 8.5 only vWorkspace licenses but is more old WSM licenses are issued.

  7.2 WSM can import legacy licenses WSM (.txt) and license vWorkspace (.asc) files.

  You cannot license Import WSM (.txt) files in vWorkspace. However, if you buy vWorkspace first edition by access device, you can use the license in WSM and also vWorkspace, because it is now a product.

• License purchase vs Vworkspace WSM

  CDW today told me that my order a week ago licenses WSM has been cancelled due to these licenses being abandoned and are now absorbed into the vWorkspace line.  My rep said it isn't a very clear way for him to sell me vWorkspace licenses yet, but he's looking to see if it's possible.

  I quite desperately searched for these licenses for expansion here, have boxes, users start soon - but no permit to practice to get there.

  I use WSM 6.0, that are supposed to make licenses?  Anyone know?

  When you bought WSM in the past, you use just for the software that ends as specified in the license file.

  Software maintenance gives access to the plus version and while the maintenance is active and has been sold separately. The interview is not active, you can still use the software, as you own.

  WSM was sold only with the maintenance for one year, with the possibility of extending to the maximum of three years at the time of purchase or renewal of maintenance before moving to the inactive state.

  If you don't have maintenance underway WSM, the exchange of license program is not applicable. However, you can renew your maintenance by buying vWorkspace first edition by access device (which includes maintenance for one year and is perpetual).

• The drive mapped to the directory of Streaming for WSM?

  My original WSM server is 6.0 on a virtual computer to Win7.  Streaming directory is on a virtual hard disk in the same VM.

  For my next step, I took this virtual hard disk and shared on the network.

  I'm testing vWorkspace 7.2 on a Win 2 k 8 R2 VM.  I installed 7.2 WSM very well, but I tried to use the newly shared disk of my WSM original server to have access to the images continuously on the server of 7.2.  I get an error: "Streaming directory is not always accessible. Please check access authorization / availability. »

  I tested access the folder via the general browsing through Explorer, power without problem.  My feeling is that WSM might have a problem with the store being on a shared network drive.

  Know a solution or give me a hint to make this work?  I try to avoid having to configure a virtual hard disk duplicate on the SAN, which is short on space.

  Hello Eric,

  sharing a picture of system operating between the separate facilities of WSM is not supported. If you could patch the Image on a single system, the other server does not know about it and can run in incalculable stakes.

  If the StreamingDir is located on a network share, the WSM Server Services must be running with the privileges of a full user with read/write permissions to the share. I recommend using Service WSM references to that effect.

• New native developer - Can t START IDE!

  I'm pretty frustrated right now. Downloaded Momentics and emulator (two stable versions). Java installed, got the emulator running (with controller), Z30 connected directly to computer, turned on the developer mode and just Momentics does not start.  I tried to run with running link (or not), developer mode on (and off), storage USB mass (or turn off) mode and the 'thing' is still the same:

  The main screen comes up, it displays a dialog box selector (I choose is to connect to the device or the emulator), but it will automatically try to connect to the device and then crashes.

  I looked in the newspaper of the IDE and found this:

  EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc = 0x000000001005cf14, pid = 6236, tid = 188 (Java runtime)

  This is the latest version of 32-bit Java for Windows 8.  (Running the latest Windows 8.1 Pro).  Also, I tried with the emulator HyperV off so I can run the emulator of BB, but I think I tried out of the IDE to run with him on, so I don't think that's it.

  I would like to develop native applications of BB 10, but it's not exactly a promising start. Any help would be appreciated.

  Well, after a long period away from this mess, I gave her another go yesterday. Found the solution:

  (1) add - Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType is mozilla at QDE. INI (in the folder bbndk)

  (2) add org.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType = mozilla to the CONFIG. INI (in the folder Configuration/bbndk)

  After that I did (almost) just started working. Could build/run, link to device, link to the emulator, etc.. Cannot download 10.3.1 symbols (not available?), but I was able to download the 10.3 symbols.

  I am completely new to Java & Eclipse, but I have a history of 20 years with Delphi and C build programs of database client/server Windows, utility back-end server, etc, so I'm not a complete beginner. The fix above doesn't seem to be documented (had to get it from someone of another sort of related post). I lost time days trying to find this solution. Ridiculous!

  It is a question that gets brought up in the Business Unit from time to time.  From now on, there are no plans on official Support from Cisco on any virtual platform other than ESXi from VMWare.

  There were successful on HyperV achievements, but if you have problems, the first thing that should be noted is that you use on a platform not supported.

• Nested Win2012 Server/HyperV extremely slow, how to fix?

  If you can manage without it, I would delete the USB of the Guest adapter.  Also, you might get better performance if you install VMware Tools.

• Used conversion HyperV (as Machine Powered) start guest OS

  I was a beginner with Hyper V, then our Organization has decided to move to VMWare for the greater power and flexibility.  So now I'm back to raw n00b.

  We have two servers host 6 virtual servers.  I moved to a single host, then installed ESXi 4 on another host (which seems to work very well).  Then tried to convert as powered machines HyperV virtual servers.  I have a few errors on sysprep but which seemed to relate to the customization that I wasn't doing.  All servers in 2008 was not purely and simply without traceable error that I could see.

  Now when I turn on the 2003 server on the ESXi host via vSphere all I get is the vmware POST screen, then a white, black screen with a cursor underscore near the upper left corner.

  I missed a few obvious and vital measures?

  My guess is that the Hyper-V hosts using IDE, and to be changed in step 3 of the process of conversion to SCSI.  Change to «preserve source» disk controller

• Dell C6100 HyperV Core reference and the Raid management

  I searched on the internet these days, trying to find and to shed light on certain issues, that we realized that we're not totally sure how to solve after the application of a C6100 Dell with HyperV on its blades.

  We have all the blades running with 4 drives, including two in a raid 1 configuration. We run HyperV based on all of its blades.

  What happens if one of those drives fails? 6100 raid configuration utility is in the BIOS, so it is obviously not an option. Since we use Core and have no GUI, other Dell RAID utilities are not going to work.

  How can you check the RAID health, other than just an orange flashing on a failed drive?

• HyperV exports fail with 5.4.3

  Have an open ticket, but thought I would ask if anyone else out there it creates virtual images Eve to a remote 2012R2 HyperV server.

  Have not had any problems for quite a while with this (5.4.2), but since the upgrade to 5.4.3 two days ago, practically all the virtual world of my standby failed.

  I created new jobs for the servers and they have not as well.  Sometimes they work but who takes an age to create completely new images (previous failure) (some of the servers are 4TB thus creates a significant impact because it takes a few days for the latter to create from scratch)

  An update on this, I applied the P-001368, the release notes mention nothing on HyperV, in fact, it solves a problem with her false statement which version you use in the Licensing Portal, I applied it simply because I ask anyway.

  Have not had a problem for about 16 hours, which is about 15.75 hours is only known after the upgrade.
