  d. some models 2010-2011 comes with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, allowing them to use Internet recovery.   2. If you do not have another Mac

  If you already have another Mac which has been upgraded in the App Store to the version of Mac OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use the recovery disk wizard to prepare a USB device, and then starts the new Mac of it by pressing the C key to start ringing. Alternatively, if you have a backup of OS X Time Machine 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a time Capsule or other network device), you can start by holding down the option key and clicking in the row of icons that is displayed. Note that if your other Mac has never updated in the App Store, you can not use this method.

  c. an unusual problem can occur if all the following conditions apply:

  OS X 10.7 or later version has been installed by the previous owner

  The boot volume has been encrypted with FileVault

  You start in recovery mode (that is, not of a 10.6 disk installation)

  In this case, you will not be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for advice or see this discussion of the CSA.

  d. after partitioning, quit disk utility and run the OS X Installer. If you install a version of OS X was acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password you used. When the installation is complete, the system reboots automatically in the Migration Wizard, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer.
