  • Cannot get Windows Media Center to learn the remote control codes decoder

I'm trying to put in place my TV card in Windows Media Center in Windows 7.  The card is a Hauppauge HVR 2250, which has a blaster/IR receiver.

The configuration of the set-top box tells me to point the remote at the receiver and "hold" the number 0.  The problem is that the remote control supplied with the set-top box (Motorola RG2400) is not constantly emits the same IR signal when I press and hold the button - signal IR lasts only about a year and a half seconds before turning off. This does not seem to be sufficiently long for Windows Media Center and never detects the signal.

    Can I make it work?

    Hello

Looks like the remote is faulty I recommend you do replace from the cable/satellite for a replacement/repair provider.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello Matthew,.

You can check if Windows Media Center is disabled in Windows features. Access the following help to do the same.

Turn on or off Windows features

Once you are at the Windows features window, look for the characteristics of media. Expand the same and make sure that Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player have a checkmark on them.

Do not respond if you have any other questions. Thank you.

  • Cannot get Windows Media Center to recognize remote STB

I have a desktop Gateway computer with an AMD Phenom 8400 Triple Core processor.  He is 1 year old and runs Windows Vista.  The Windows Media Center seems to work perfectly.   Recently, I decided to add the TV option to the computer since the last of my children has left and I got a set-top box (STB) available.  I have Verizon FiOS service and I made connections that were provided in the installation of the gateway documentation.  I know it is getting signal through because when I try the manual set up the process, I get a small square window of 2 inches with channel 3 in it.  I can change this channel with my set-top box remote to all channels that are available from my service.  When I continue on in the whole of the process I get to a point where it asks me to point my remote decoder and press on and press and hold the '0' button so Media Center can learn the codes (and, I presume, activate the remote control centre for use).  It is never past "0".  I have new batteries in the tuner and I tested it on another box, so I know it works.

I tried put automation in place two option first and that didn't work either--that's why I went to the manual set up.

As I said above, the Media Center works great with all other options and the MSNBC documentary line CD/DVD playback, etc..  It's just the TV live set up for the Media Center tuner that gives me a royal pain.

I hope someone can help me to finish the game.  Thank you, John.

Looks like you are trying to change your set-top box with a remote control channels of Media Center.  To use Media Center with a set-top-box, you would need a remote control Media Center and one cable IR and remote sensor.

Please see the following diagram: Media Center and your set-top box

During the implementation of process Media Center application that aim you the decoder at the remote sensor and press the 0 key.  The remote sensor at the moment will record the signal from the remote control so that it can be reproduced for the decoder when the Media Center remote control.

    -Thank you

  • working___ stop in Windows media center

In this forum, an answer was no problem stopping.  It seems to be a big problem with your consumers.  I don't see any solution yet with other users.  Were there an answer to this question?  Y at - it a update or windows 7 is required to solve this problem?  Or does?

    Hi Win22,

    A. when exactly do you get this error?

    B. were there any changes made recently on your computer?

    C. what measures have you tried?

I suggest you follow these methods if you have not tried them on your computer.

    Method 1

    Step 1

This problem occurs if the Windows Media Center update process (Mcupdate.exe) cannot access the Windows Media Center to store data if the data store is damaged. So, try to rebuild the Media Center data store. To do this, follow these steps:

1 exit any running instance of Windows Media Center.

2 delete the mediaCenterDataStore.db file. By default, this file is located in the following location:
    %SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mediaCenterDataStore.DB

To remove the file, follow these steps:

    a. click on start

    (b) in the Open box of start search, type % systemdrive%\programdata\microsoft\ehome and then click OK.

    c. in the details, click pane right mediacenterdatastore.db and then click on remove.

    d. click Yes to confirm that you want to move the Mediacenterdatastore.db file to the trash.

    3. start Windows Media Center.

If the step above does not help, try step 2

    Step 2

    1. click on the Start button

    2. Select Control Panel.

    3. double-click on the Administrative Tools icon

    4. double-click on Services.

    5. scroll through the list of Services and find Windows Media Center Receiver service. You may need to expand the name column by dragging the right side of the column heading.

    6. right click Windows Media Center Receiver Service, and then select Properties.

    7. click on the connection tab, and then select the Local System account

    8. click on apply and then click OK a warning of Services.

    Method 2: new user account

    1. open user accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety (or by clicking on user accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking user accounts.

    2. click on manage another account.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. click on create a new account.

    4. type the name you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click on create an account.

  • Windows Media Center & Windows 7 Enterprise N

I have installed Windows 7 Enterprise N, I do not find windows media center, what can I do?

    Hi Maher28,

N edition and the operating system Windows 7 KN edition do not include Windows Media Player or other technologies related to Windows Media, such as Windows Media Center and Windows DVD Maker. Therefore, you must install a separate media player in order to perform the following actions:

    ·   Play or create audio CDs, DVD-video and media files

    ·   Organize content in a media library

    ·   Create playlists

    ·   Convert audio CDs to media files

    ·   Show media title and artist information

    ·   See album art on the music files

    ·   Transfer music to personal music players

    ·   Recording and playback of television programs

The features in the N editions are the same as their equivalent versions complete as well as the same price, but do not include Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player can be downloaded for free from Microsoft for these editions.

You can download Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N and Windows 7 KN using the link below:

  • Windows Media Center starts by itself

Windows Media Center starts by itself all the time. If I close the lid on my laptop, it starts. I open my laptop at other times and it will be opened. I do not use the media center. Is how to disable it? I am running Windows Vista.

    Hello world!

I just wanted to clear the confusion.
Marilyn's response suggests to remove WMC start-up, that the OP has not mentioned in their first post. Given that the OP has not returned more than 7 days, it is assumed the following steps solved the problem and is then marked as answer.
Since many of you have tried these steps and they did not help, I've unmarked at the station.
Regarding a solution, many of you are looking for a way to simply disable Windows Media Center entirely. I must point out that if you are using Windows 7 you can quickly and easily disable this feature using 'Windows turn features on or off'. But being given that most (if not all) of you are using Vista, I'm going to press.
There are many ways to skin this cat:
Has. Disable the Services Windows Media Center
    1. Click Start, type services.msc and pressenter
    2. Find Windows Media Center Extender Service and double click it
    3. On the general tab, change the Startup Type to disabled , and then click OK to close this window
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the Windows Media Center Receiver Service,Windows Media Center Scheduler Service , andWindows Media Center Service Launcher
    5. Close the window Services and reboot
    B. Disable Windows Media Center via Group Policy (Note: is not an option for users of Windows Vista Edition Home Premium)
    1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc , and then press enter
    2. Under Computer Configuration, navigate to Administrative Templates > Windows components > Windows Media Center
    3. In the right pane, double-click the policy (do not allow Windows Media Center to run)
    4. Select active (sounds weird but this will indeed prevent WMC to run), and then clickOKto close this window
    5. Close the local Group Policy Editor , and then restart
    C. Disable Windows Media Center via the registry
    1. Click Start, type regedit and press enter
    2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > policies > Microsoft
    3. Right click on Microsoft and choose new >key
    4. Name the WindowsMediaCenter key, and then press enter
    5. Right click on the key that you just created and choose new > DWORD (32-bit) Value
    6. Name the MediaCenter DWORD, and then press enter two times
    7. Change the value to hexadecimal 1 and press OK
    8. Close the registry editor and then restart
You really need to perform one of the patches above for Windows Media Center must be disabled.
Let me know if the above help solves your problem!
