Cannot increase the capacity of VMFS 5.54 data store

Hello
I added more discs to my series of raid 10 expanded the logical volume,
size is available and can be seen by esxi, but cannot select the logical unit number to extend the data store.
See screenshot

The increase in size is not possible
When the data store is on the same logical drive as the esx system?
Thanks for your help.

Increasing the local data store on the installation disc is not possible through the user interface and cannot be supported. At http://deinoscloud.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/how-to-increase-the-size-of-a-local-datastore-on-an-esxi4/ you can find a walkthrough on how to grow the local data store on ESXi 4.x with ESXi 5.0, you should not use «partedUtil resize...» "instead of fdisk (remove a recreate the partition) to change the size of the score well.

For information about how to use partedUtil, see for example http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1036609

If you are not sure, please after the release of

partedUtil getptbl "/vmfs/devices/disks/"

  • Detach the corrupt empty VMFS datastore hosts (data store is an iSCSI LUN)

Sorry people - can't all in fact it nails with a Google.

I have a corrupted (size beyond 2 TB by accident) data store. Migrate all hosts out there - she is empty.

As it is corrupt, it does not in the normal way.

Now I CAN just tear out of the EqualLogic SAN - but I don't want to confuse ESXi.

Can someone tell me how "friendly but firm" about ESXi to let go of it before I delete it the San?

    Thanks many many - Tim

Like a little help, I have denied access of a host to the LUN and restarted mode maint.

It is not in the view hosts of storage thereafter.

If I repeat, it erases it completely from vCenter?

  • Is there a method to increase the capacity of a basic partition?

Original title: hard drive partitions are reversed - the OS is on drive H, and drive C is almost empty

I did a system recovery (destrutive). I deleted a partition. C and D remain as choices on the recovery console.  There are three choices. After recovery, I had Windows XP 1985-2001.  I upgraded to XP version 2000. After the upgrade to SP2, including all updates and is about to finish with SP3 and microsoft security essential, I discovered that the operating system has been installed on the wrong drive.

Is there a method to increase the capacity of a base score, after that is already part of the formatting of the hard drive?

  • Increase the capacity of the hard disk for VM

    Hello

    I use ESX 4.0 with vSphere 4.0.

When there is no snapshots more I would like to increase the capacity of the hard disk of the virtual machine in the menu to change settings / Hard disk. There is MS Windows Srv 2008 R2 64-bit installed.

What is the right way to do it? Operating system, there is no problem with this increased disc? Primary partition will automatically increase as or what I have to do it myself later?

There should not be problems with the guest operating system when you increase the size of the virtual disk. After the increase in size in the settings of the virtual machine, you need to resize the NTFS partition in the VM Windows 2008 disk management.

  • Data store cannot increase the size

I have some data stores that I'm not able to increase the size of.  Increase button is just off hard.  Some other data warehouses, I am able to do it without problem.

All data warehouses are connected to the unit number logic on a NetApp via an iSCSI connection.  I increased the size on the side of NetApp, but this does not seem to matter.  In fact, he sees the extra space when I go into the properties of the data store.  All servers are running the same version being esxi 4.1.

Most data warehouses are 3.33 but I have some 3.46 versions, but on both versions, some may be increased and some may not.  I was hoping that was the problem...

The size of the data store varries.  Most of them have a block size of 1 MB.  None of the data warehouses are more than 500 GB.  Mostly between 300-400 GB.

So I'm a bit at a loss.  I tried to resize them using the vCenter server and goes straight to the server esxi itself.  None of that seems to matter.

Right now, I'm just at a loss.  I have not really found too much online about this problem.  A large number of documents to make errors trying to increase, but not a lot of increase being disabled.

    Thank you for your time.

  • Increase the capacity of the drive to ReadyNas 3200 RN12P0000-100WWS

    Nice day!

We have 12-Bay device (ReadyNas 3200 RN12P0000-100WWS) with 2 TB each disk (WDC WD2002FYPS)

    Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.28.

Could you please help me understand is possible to change the HARD drive in 3/4 to? And if it's possible could you please share the part number & model of HARD drive (Western Digital are preffered)

The 3200 only supports drives that are more capacious 2 TB in bays 1-4. In the bays, 5-12 you are limited to 2 TB drives.

There are a few limitations of expansion for RAIDiator - x 86 4.2.x

1 cannot extend over 8 to over the life of the volume, so if the capacity of the volume is 1.8 to when your last made a factory default (erases all the data, settings, all that) you can't expand beyond 9.8 TB

2 cannot extend beyond 16 TB. Do a factory default (erases all the data, settings, everything) with the disks in place. However, with for example 8x2TB and 4x4TB using X-RAID2 it would create a layer using 12x2TB then try grow to use the 2 TB remaining on 4 TB drives and fail. You could use Flex-RAID and create several volumes.

Note our RN3220 and RN4220 do not have these limitations of expansion but they use a different OS and file system

You could get a 3220 or 4220 and new disks and backup data from the former NAS to the new NAS then reverse backup jobs to use the 3200 for backups of your important data.

    GFS,

You need not worry. It is supposed to be like this.

It's only the purpose to hold a full recovery for your operating system Partition.

Do not restore points save, or anything in that partition.

  • Cannot increase the size of the volume of windows

    Hello

I increased the size of the volume in Dell EqualLogic Group Manager (GUI). On windows, I see that volume capacity is 200, but it does not increase the size of 200 GB. After scanning disk total size shows that only 100 and not any unallocated space available size. Is - this 2012 windows bug? don't know where to start troubleshooting. The server cluster connection is via iSCSI.

I see unreserved space EqualLogic, but not in windows,

    Thank you

    Hello

It * should * work, but it seems that perhaps services cluster prevents the operating system of new reading ability.  Could take a failover or even restart the cluster nodes so that it can see the new space.

If you have the support of MS, it would be worth a call to them as well.

    Greetings fellow techies,

I have an XP VM (actually a model, but he converted to VM so I can change properties) on which I can't increase the size of the virtual disk. I tried a new virtual machine of the cloning and the new virtual machine won't let me not resize the disk. I do not have the shots on this bad boy and I am connected to vCenter w / full permissions so it's not the case either. I know there must be something very simple, I'm clearly dominant so I thought I have turn to you pro of for help.

I have attached a screenie but please do not hesitate to request additional information to better understand my scenario.

Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.

  • Satellite A200 - 1AE PSAECE - cannot increase the brightness

    Hello pls help.
I can't 100% screen brightness increases. The max is 70%

    Hello

Have you tried the FN + F7 key combination?
This increase in the brightness of the display.

How about Windows power settings management?
Have you checked if the brightness of the display is set to 100% there?

In some cases, the brightness of the display can be low in order to save the battery energy, but usually the FN + F7 key combination is expected to increase the brightness, even if brightness in power management is a lower stage.

In the worst case the FL inverter may be defective this part controls the brightness of the screen

  • Satellite P500 - cannot increase the brightness of the screen

    I have a new Satellite P500.

The problem I have is that if I have the power shut off for several hours I lose the ability to increase the brightness of the screen. I can get increased brightness to level 4 and when I increase level 8 the brightness down. If I go down, the screen goes black. The only solution I found is to turn off the power, remove the battery, put it back in and power on.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi mate,

    It's a bit confusing...
In addition, it would be interesting to know what OS you are using. Normally, if you are running OS preinstalled from Toshiba, everything should work properly.

So in your case, I would try to update the BIOS which you can find here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Sorry, but everything that s what I can say at the moment.

  • Cannot increase the size of the virtual disk

I do this kind of maintenance all the time. Usually on Windows 2008 R2 servers where I can just go to the VM > settings > hard and develop it for my pleasure, and then add the space from the host 'to hot' without having to reload or use third-party tools 'boot' to develop (IE. GParted).

We run vSphere 5.0. The virtual machine for this case is a Win2k8 R2 64 bit on a host 4.1. Our warehouses are NFS volumes on NetApp storage infrastructure. It is now the question:

On the same data store, same OS (2 k 8 R2) I can change the settings on virtual machines to increase the disk space and the others, I can't. It is:

    • same data store (NFS - Yes, there is enough space to grow)
    • different hosts
    • same operating system
    • all of them are defined for Thin Provisioning
    • VMware tools are running and up to date

For some reason some VMS allow me to develop their hard drive (size available xxx.xxGB) and others do not grow (available s/o): click the arrows to increase the hard drive is greyed out.

    Ideas?

    Thank you!

    Alex

You can not. Unfortunately, it is not possible to resize a virtual disk with snapshots.
