Cannot install updates of security for xp #KB2698023 and #2656370

Cannot install updates for XP #KB2698023 and #KB2656370

Hi PeteBosch,

Welcome to the Microsoft community. According to the description of the problem, you are not able to install updates (KB2698023, KB2656370). Provide the following information:

·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

·         You are able to install other updates successfully?

·         You get the error message?

·         You use a third-party security software?

I suggest you follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx

Method 3: Follow the steps in the article.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

You can read this article for more information:

You cannot install some programs or updates

Note: You must take the backup of the data before performing any installation of windows.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more assistance.

  • Cannot install updates of security KB265639 - KB2686828

I can not install updates of security for Net Framework Win XP x 86 KB265639 and KB2686828.  I have installed all updates, but these failed three times two, could you please help.  Thank you.

After spending several days browsing through the various solutions proposed, I ran across the following procedure which worked for me:
Windows XP users follow these steps to repair the installation of .NET Framework 4:

    Close all running applications.
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add / Remove programs.
Click Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile in the list of installed programs, and then click Change/Remove.
Select repair .NET Framework 4 Client Profile to its original state and click Next.
    Repairs completed, click Finish.
    Click restart now.
After you open a session in Windows, click the Start button, type Windows Update in the search box, and then click Windows Update.
Click Find updates. Once the scan is completed, click on install updates to Windows.
Follow the instructions on the screen to install the updates of Windows.

The three .NET Framework updates installed perfectly. I had previously hidden updates to prevent the yellow shield updated constantly in my taskbar. I am running Windows XP SP3. I hope this helps.
