Cannot map the shared folders to the drive letter in WIndows prompt

I seem to have a problem with the shared folders in a Windows on Fusion 6 client. Turning on shared folders in the VM options creates the "VMWare shared folders" shortcut on my desktop, and I can open and view files shared host, as expected. However, it is not map the shared folders to drive Z: in Windows because I expect, and I can not also go to shared folders using the path "\\vmware-host\Shared records" (for example, only by typing in the address bar in a window of the Explorer). It is a problem, because I need a path that I can put scripts to refer to things in the shared folder.

Also, if I access network in Explorer, vmware-host is there but trying to open it gives me the error "Windows cannot access \\vmware-host."

I'm running 6 Fusion on OS X Mavericks, and the guest is Windows 8.1. My .vmx file contains the following lines which I think are related to shared folders:

insulation. Tools.hgfs.Disable = "FALSE".

hgfs.mapRootShare = 'TRUE '.

hgfs.linkRootShare = 'TRUE '.

sharedFolder0.present = 'TRUE '.

sharedFolder0.enabled = 'TRUE '.

sharedFolder0.readAccess = 'TRUE '.

sharedFolder0.writeAccess = 'TRUE '.

sharedFolder0.hostPath = ' / users/buck/projects.

sharedFolder0.guestName = 'projects '.

sharedFolder0.expiration = "never".

sharedFolder.maxNum = '1 '.

For me, the weirdest thing is that I can get for shared folders by using the shortcut on the desktop, but by typing the exact path and the shortcut points to in an Explorer window does not work!

If anyone has any suggestions on how I could get this works normally, I would be very grateful - thank you!

Hi Buck,

Welcome to the community.

Have you tried to re - install vmware tools in your windows 8.1?

I think you should activate windows network discovery if you want to browse vmware host in the network.

You can enable this by

Control Panel-> network and Internet-> Network and Sharing Center-> the advanced sharing settings

  • cannot change the drive letter of the external hard drive in XP

    I bought an Iomega 1 TB external hard drive and I can not change the drive letter.  I have a click right on my computer and select manage.  When I click on disk management, it does not recognize the outside.  The weird part is that it appears in my computer and I can access the drive without problem.  I disconnected the drive of my XP machine and connected to my Vista laptop and I was able to access it through the management of the disks without problem.  Iomega support claims that it is most likely a problem with my XP machine.  Any ideas how to solve this problem?

    Hello rolandboy,

    Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers community.

    Try to use diskpart to complete the task.

    -Click Start > run > type diskpart and press enter
    -At the prompt, type list volume , press enter
    -At the prompt, type select volume 1 (where 1 is the number of the volume is the volume that you need to change the drive letter)

    -At the prompt, type assign letter = A (where A is the letter you want to assign your volume)

    Close your CMD, and you should be finished.

    Hello

    I have two laptops running Vista. On each of them, I have an external USB or SATA drive that I use as a backup partition.
    I have my own backup utility, and I like to use the letter B for the backup.

    When I change sometimes the discs I've met this parameter is incorrect problem on two computers - sometimes I can change using the method above and sometimes I can't.  I tried to stop the disk cache, anti-virus etc etc etc. with totally inconsistent results so far as I can tell.

    Today I tried to boot mode safe mode (F8 at startup) and tried the same steps as before and it worked on the first attempt.

    Maybe it's worth a try.

  • Windows 7 cannot map the drive to the DNS 323 NAS device.

    OK, I'll just about my mind with this one. I have a DNS 323 NAS device connected directly to my laptop with the static IP and a crossover cable (removed from my network for troubleshooting of simplicity). I'm running Windows 7 Pro. I can access the web interface of the device, ping and Windows 7, he sees in screen sharing network (taked me on the web of the interface when I click it). I tried to map a drive using the drive mapping by using the server name and Ip and I get the same result. It just says that it cannot connect. I removed all fireewall and virus programs. I have reset the NAS to factory default and the latest firmware.  I tried the safe mode with network and nothing. However, I can run XP mode and that works very well for the drive mapping.

    When I plug this NAS using the method above to another box under XP pro, and an another runnning Windows 7 Pro, they can map drives without problem.  So I think I reduced it to something with my Windows 7. It worked when I first installed 7, but I havn't found this NAS in awhile, so not sure when it stopped.

    Can someone help, it drives me crazy!

    I can't take credit for this answer - I saw it in another forum: uninstall Windows Live Login Assistant... it worked for me! I was unable to map drives to Win7, so that I could do this well with XP.

    I have no idea why it works.

  • Export the drive letter of windows and vmware number of hard disk in csv format

    Hello

    is there a way to export to CSV, the windows drive letter (c:, d:, e:, etc.) and the number of disk hard vmware ("Disk 1", hard disk 2", etc.) to a csv file?

    Take a look at this document: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-12180

    It is based on the idea of Hugo Peeters', but it uses the Invoke-VMScript cmdlet and therefore does not require a network connection to work between the virtual machine and your station PowerCLI.

    Export is sent to the Out-GridView cmdlet, but it can be easily redirected to a CSV file by replacing the line:

    $DiskInfo | Out-GridView

    with:

    $DiskInfo | Export-Csv "C:\Script\VMDiskMapping.csv".

    Let me answer that question by myself. After you delete all the related items to "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Intel\Bluetooth" in the registry of windows, the installer for intel proset/weirelss can be treated successfully. Then, everything works fine now. I tried to understand this problem these days, and finally it is resolved. Wuala ~.

  • The strange thing is that, when you go and try to remap the drive, it shows that the drive letter is mapped to a different drive used to be shared on the server?

    I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit in a dish netwrok with no announcement. I can map drives on the server without any problems and everything seems fine. Then after a few hours it seems to lose the mapping on the drive. There are two mapping drives and he loses a. It will show in my computer as being mapped, but you cannot access it. You can connect to the mapped drive on bringing the command run and typing in the UNC path in.

    The strange thing is that, when you go and try to remap the drive, it shows that the drive letter is mapped to a different drive used to be shared on the server? Once you tell to remap things in car are fine for a few hours.

    My question is where and why it does this?

    Thoughts?

    Thank you

    If you try to insert two cards at the same time that would be normal given that the card reader is bound to a single channel of USB. It all depends on how your computer has been configured when it was built.

    If you remove the first card and insert another card it is possible that you are not just right-click on the map in file Explorer and ejecting the card before you remove them.

    Hello golden2,.

    I understand that you have a DVD picture in your SuperDrive drive, but it is not mount on the desktop and will not eject.

    Please, try the procedure described in this article using the disc is ejected.

    Get help with the SuperDrive slot on your Mac - Apple Support loading

    Do not eject discs or discs eject slowly

    1. If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to have difficulty, insert and eject a disc several times. Check the disc to see if it has a label or other material stuck to the disc which increases the thickness. Remove the label if possible.
    2. If the disc does not eject, try pressing the eject on the keyboard button. Some older keyboards may use the F12 key to eject the disc.
    3. If the disc does not eject, try dragging the icon of the disk to the trash.
    4. If the disc will still not eject, try to hold down the mouse or trackpad button after you restart the computer. The Superdrive should attempt to eject the disc.
    5. If the disc still does not eject, reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and repeat steps 1 to 4.
    6. If the disc still does not eject, Contact Apple or an provider of services authorized Apple, or make an appointment with a Store Apple Store for further assistance.

    Take care.
