Cannot save the virtual machine in VMWare Server 2

Hi all:

I created a VM (12.1 OpenSuSE 32bits) in VMWare Workstation 7; then I copied it to a host VMWare Server 2.

When I try to save the virtual machine via the web, the server fails (or at least interrupts the response from Web page), so I tried to save it via command line.

After searching a bit I found this:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1006160

The question is now that I can't find any vmware-cmd anywhere, and when I run vmware-vim-cmd I get the following error:

vmh2: / data/vmachines/postgresql-box # vim - vmware - cmd solo/registervm /data/vmines/postgresql-box/postgresql-box.vmx
Connection failed: vim.fault.NoPermission

So I'm stuck... someone can help me?

BTW: what is ESX, ESXi and what version of ESXi is included in VMWare Server 2?

Thank you very much

Luis

I can't tell you exactly what are the causes of the problem. What I would try (a solution) is to create a new virtual machine in VMware Server with the same specifications as the original one, then copy the two files hard in the new virtual machine folder and edit the .vmx file for the new VM 'OpenSuSE - 12.1 - cl1 - 000001.vmdk' use as its virtual drive.

Okay, that means, is not in your server room.

Your computer has several available ethernet network interfaces: eth0, eth0: 0,

    eth0: 1, eth0:2, eth0:3. Which do you want to bridge vmnet0?

Your server has only one physical ethernet interface. But there are multiple ip addresses configured on it. If you want to know, how it works and how it is configured, you can read this page.

You need to reconfigure your network VMware Server 2 to fill the other or several networks. VMware Server documentation is explained on p. 222 and following. In fact, for linux, it is page 229 and includes 'ifconfig' to know what special device (eth0: 0...) what IP address, then run ' vmware - config.pl ' is used to assign the new configuration. But please read the documentation for more details.

  • Cannot start the virtual machine on VMware Workstation 12.1.0

The host machine is W2008R2, VM is the same. When im trying to start the current VM I see VMware screen, then "download files" screen loading, then VMware loading new screen and etc.

    Log file is attached below.

An update of the firmware could certainly help.  After you install the update of the firmware, it can be useful following the instructions from the motherboard to reset the firmware configuration by default (if its configuration is not too heavily customized) and then reconfigure with custom settings, you might need.  Check that you have disabled in your TXT firmware settings too... who's going to stop us from using the capabilities of VT - x from the host.  And, where there is doubt, the error message is not really pleasant on cyclical food... Some systems cannot put a change of configuration of VT - x into force without being truly disconnected from power for a while, so if in case of doubt, he put it off and remove the power outlet for a few seconds.

Your CPU is certainly capable of VT - x and support all the VT - x features required by VMware Workstation... Simply to force the system to allowing the use of VT - x and then it should start to work well.

    See you soon,.

  • Import the virtual machine of VMWare Server 2.0

I want to hang in VMWare Server 2.0 to ESXi 3.5, how to import my VMWare VM for ESXi?

I installed ESXi 3.5 on my test lab server and all I see is an option to import a device and not a VM.

    This feature is still available?

    Thank you

Yes, this feature is available, but it will take VMware Converter - this will allow you to go to your VM VMware Server ESX/ESXi.

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

(I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

This one is for external access to the Internet:

And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

Then, you need allow this connection to share:

And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].

You run the virtual machine on HW 8, that you will not be able to simply move the ESXi machine.

  • automatic start of the virtual machine on vmware player 2.5.1?

Can VMWare Player 2.5.1 the virtual machine autostart when it starts? I have Windows running VMWare Player when it starts, but just, this brings me to the main page of player where you can open file, recent opening, etc. You still have to physically click to open the virtual machine. So is there a way that I could automate it to just run itself when it opened (change of maybe a file somewhere)? If this version/product does not support this, can you recommend one that does?

Player doesn't have the ability to auto-start the virtual machines.  The fact of VMware Server.  Server start virtual machines when Windows starts, not when you start the server GUI, which is not exactly what you are referring, but is usually what most people want when they want machines virtual autostart.

'office' versions of Windows are listed as taken hosts supported OS.  Many threads on these forums about the small nagging issues with networking and such when to use Server on unsupported hosts, especially hosts Vista and Win7.  You don't specify what version of Windows you are using as the host.  If it is a server version, VMware Server is an option for you.

But a simple solution is to simply make shortcuts to the. Files in the folder of your VMX virtual machine.

  • Import of existing virtual machines to VMware server

My company has several virtual machines created with VMware Server 2.0.  We want to do a proof of concept for virtualization in production using ESXi environment.  Instead to install guest OS on a new machine of ESXi freash, is it possible to import a virtual machine created in VMware Server 2.0?  This should earn a quite some time.  Also, if possible, ESXi accesses a UBS device to copy the files of the virtual machine locally, that is, a USB HDD?  If this is not the case, can use us the VM converter to move to ESXi?

    Thanks for your help.

    RC

Check the converter.  Probably the easiest option.

  • Cannot start the virtual machine after you create snapshop

I found a strange behaviour. I have a Windows 2008 guest that I just copied in my new box ESXi. I am trying to create a snapshot before upgrading the guest to 2012 Windows operating system. The virtual machine has currently no snapshots. Whenever I have create a snapshot, he succeeds, but then I can't start the virtual machine saying that it does not find the vmdk file delta even though I see there in the data store. In order to start the virtual machine, I have to delete the inventory and it readd, but then I lose the snapshot. I also have another computer virtual running Windows 8.1 that does exactly the same thing. How can I create snapshots safely without damaging the virtual machine? I also tried to create the snapshot while the virtual machine has been activated but that makes crashing and then it does not start again, so I have to repeat the process to remove the inventory and it time. Frustrating. See the screenshots, I have attached.

Once these virtual machines have been in Hyper-V in the past and I just convert to VMware format using the StarWind V2V converter.

Yes, for an ESXi host and target you must either select the ESX f.vmdk as format target (growable option is for VMware Workstation), or you must convert the virtual machine once more instead of simply upload the files to an ESXi host.

  • See Virtual Machine role cannot accommodate the virtual machine is on. Help please.

Hi all. I'm trying a re-branded minimum permissions to a group for some virtual machines. The role of Virtal Machine user seems to be a perfect fit. The only problem I have is that the user can't see what host the virtual computer is on. If they are in the VMware Infrastructure Client and click on the Summary tab, it is empty. The reason why I want to see them is if they need to use a CD-ROM to install an application in that they need to know what a host to the CD. Can someone tell me which box to check if I go and change the role? Is there a better way to do it?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the Forums!

If they have access to the virtual Center and the access flag to the virtual machine itself, why not just mount the .iso/CD on the computer virtual in question then disconnect when you are finished.  Having to put a CD in an ESX host, every time something must be installed not the ideal way

  • Cannot start the virtual machine guest after receiving "License expired message" host ESXi 5.5

I can't start computer virtual invited after receiving "License expired message" 5.5 ESXi host. I am able to copy the vm folder prompted with all its files using WinSCP I had already installed on a desktop computer in the network.

However, it takes an extremely long time to download the VM [2.5 mb/s], which is of course a different question.

It seems that I was still on the trial with my vsphere client license, until it expired. I am able to view the virtual machine within the workstation 10, but I can't turn it on. It says "Please install a license to power on this computer" there is no way to install a license anywhere.

My question is... .will I be able to access this virtual machine if I download on an external hard drive, then add it to 10 VMWorkstation that I possess a current valid license?

Even if the evaluation license has expired, you should be able to connect to the ESXi host using the vSphere Client and follow the steps mentioned in the article that I posted before you enter the free license key.
