  Sometimes modules can 'break' when a new version of Firefox is available and cause strange glitches in the user interface.

  Does not work if Firefox: Hold down the SHIFT key when you start Firefox.

  If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

  • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
  • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

  and OK reboot.

  Two scenarios: A small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not update).

• I couldn't use the search bar on google, but I get results if I use internet explore w/google or use the address bar.

  Today, I was unable to obtain results when I put a topic into the google search bar. However, if I use the address bar it will work and I eventually switched to internet explore and was able to get results in the google search bar.

  Clear the cache and cookies from sites that cause problems.

  'Delete Cookies' sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > privacy > Cookies: "show the Cookies".

  Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

• Could not find ' subject: accidents using the address bar

  My question is with Firefox (35.0.1) constantly crashing, I try to find my submitted incident reports but could not find ' subject: accidents using the address as directed by Mozilla bar. I type "subject: accidents and end up with 'the address is not valid'." My browser crashed between 25 to 30 times in the last 6 days, I presented reports every time and 6 times, I also introduced my address to receive a response, none was forthcoming.
  Home PC is used by a few of us, while the children use their own laptop computer, to save time logging in and out, each of us using another browser. Nobody in our family has problems with IE or Chrome on the PC at home, nor children. The only person to have problems is the poor SAP who drew the short straw - me.

  I can a fair bit of advice? During my research, these constant crashes, I see that many, many others have had the same problem and for quite a few years apparently. Should I just accept that this is part of the use of Firefox and don't forget to take some Valium drops in my tea before logon? or perhaps the healthier choice, find a.n.other browser and move everything out there?

• I had Google as search engine by default, when I used the address bar to search for, but Yahoo has hijacked this function and I can't get default Google.

  Hi gcraighammond, I just noticed that you had a problem, a right-click. To change the search engine, click with the left button on the icon and a list of search engine options would fall down.

  Yet once, it doesn't until you move the search box back to the toolbar AND to exit to customize the view.

  I know that is not intuitive, but for everyone suffering from this bug, it's a problem with the bookmarks database that breaks the: address bar. address bar | URL bar | awesome bar, or anything else you like.

  Current fix suggested. (Bug 1180419 partner)
  Rename the places.sqlite file as explained in this recently revised article.

  Hello pan903, you can try to install the addon Search reset , or manually reset the url search engine by typing on: config in the address bar of firefox (confirmed the message information where it appears), seeking the preference named keyword.url and right click and reset it to its default value.

  I did a system restore, after seeing some other problems with my computer. Now, it seems to work correctly. I think that refreshing Firefox may not have worked until I did the restore, because he tried to open my previous session, even after rebooting.   I tried to change the field to "no" several times without any results. It always gives me suggestions. I have tried clearing recent history with no results either. As you can see below, my "browser.urlbar.autoFill", "browser.urlbar.autoFill.typed" and "browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled" are all set to "false".

  for one or two years, firefox has had an update to change the search parameters.
  Before that happened, we used to use the address bar of google-search and use of the search bar for individual searches like imdb or in some cases use of keywoards for individual research via the address bar. The 'new' - versions of firefox (I guess it was the update 23 FF and all the following versions) replaces the browser.search.defaultsearchengine whenever you change the engine in the search bar. In this way, the two bars of Act quite the same when it comes down to research. It took some time for the (German) supportpages update to this new behavior, but now that this has happened, there is still no clue how to change it back to the old settings, where the search bar is the search and address bar only led to a search via google, when it was necessary.
  So how can pick us up with a search engine in the adressbar again without going through the embarrassment of having to choose the search bar engine?
  I couldn't find useful information or plugins and 'Smart search' and 'Keywords' are no option for us.

  I would really appreciate help with this.

  I can only open Firefox Web sites by using a url link. If I try to type something into the address bar it not even trying to load the page, no circle of loading, no error or no connection message.   Try clicking on tools-> Options-> advanced-> general tab uncheck the box "Use Hardware Acceleration..." ". You have the entire module as avg safe search installed?
