Canoe recover Documents, Control Panel, games etc.

After turn on computer I want to go to one of the areas in my Start menu and I get Message Windows Explorer has stopped. After many attempts still without success. Tried to retrieve the system error in program system recover has not worked.

Hi MrMagicMarkA,

1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

2 when was the last time it was working fine?

Method 1

Check if the problem persists in safe mode.

Start your computer in safe mode

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Restart the computer to return to normal mode

If the problem does not persist in safe mode then I suggest that you perform the clean boot procedure to check whether a third-party program installed on the computer is causing the error message.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

Method 2

If the previous step fails, then see the Microsoft article below and try the steps mentioned, check if it works.

Error message when you log on to Windows Vista: "Windows Explorer has stopped working".

I hope this helps!

  • I have not 'Programmes' in my control panel

Recently, I lost "Freecell" from my computer.  (XP Home Edition)  It was because I bought "Grimefighter" of Avast!  I searched this site how to reinstall and was puzzled at the first hurdle.  You suggest "Start/Control Panel/programs/etc" but I do not have a "Programs" icon (phone, printer and Power Options are the icons of 'P' I only.)  So I'm stuck.

Any other suggestions how re - install Freecell please.  Miss me it!

If you are not in the 'friendly' view of the Control Panel, you'll see icons instead.  In icon view, the desired option called "Add/Remove Programs".  From there, the rest of the instructions will be the same.

    Hi il898,

This can also occur if the installation files are broken or missing for the program which may be reason for the program does not appear in uninstall a program from the list.

I suggest that you run the program to install the program again and check if you get an option to uninstall the program and try to uninstall the program.
If it still does not uninstall the program, and then try to reinstall the program and uninstall afterwards.

    Welcome.

To resolve this problem, you must install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility as administrator. To do this, right click on the Setup file (msicuu2.exe) and choose Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

  • Windows 8.1 update, my documents, and control panel questions

I have a laptop HP Envy m6 and a few weeks ago, put PC updated to Windows 8.1 Windows 8. It was working fine until yesterday.

When I open Explorer file it says that the 'My PC' folder is empty. Other times it works fine when the file Explorer is the first open but will not work if it is closed and reopened without restarting the computer. I also discovered that the Panel does not work. It opens but the window is empty. I can not access anything which would be normally accessed through the control panel as change the wallpaper, add or modify the equipment, etc.. Finally, with the exception files, icons indicating the type of file for example the Word Document, Pdf etc. do not appear when displayed in the file Explorer, but view correctly on the desktop computer. The computer works - I can access the internet, save, and create documents, but struggle to access later (if possible).

    Thanks for your help.

    NeedHelp55,

If the upgrade has been done for weeks, while the problem is probably not the upgrade itself, although something is certainly wrong since then.

    Thoughts on the subject...

    ==========================================================================

    Windows updates

If you have not done recently (or at all) be sure that you have all of your updates to Windows Installer.  Some people are 'Anti update' and the world can be a scary place with updates that don't always work as planned.  You have not to install updates for Windows 8.1 after the upgrade - this isn't a choice.  You can always disable them again later.

    ==========================================================================

System Restore - back in time

If the system has recently installed updates, and then if the system has created a Restore Point before these updates applied, then you can "back track" to a date / time before the changes have been made.

Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)

Don't forget: you can create a Restore Point manually any time you want if you have these "back points."  This occasionally - it of a good thing and could save your back one of these days.  The smile.

    ==========================================================================

    New user account

You could try to create a new account - create with administrator privileges, just in case you need the account later.

If you can get the PC settings, then you might be able to create a new account.

    Long way around:

Windows key > type anywhere pc > click PC config > other accounts > add account

You can name the account that you want, and you can use with your current Microsoft account, login if you wish.  You may need to obtain a new Microsoft login code - you can use another device (phone, Tablet, another computer) to pick up the email containing the new code that will be sent to Microsoft.

Log in to the new account and put in place the "settings" for this account.  Check if the new account actually works as expected.

IF the new account is working and that your old account is messed up, then - use the new account, at least until you have one fix for the other.  You can always copy your documents.  Configure the settings for the account manually, however, to minimize the chances that 'break you' the new account.

  • How to remove permanently free game players out of my control panel Windows XP computer?

I would like to know how do I permanently remove/add free game players out of my control panel (Windows XP).  I tried to get this game but it remove it from my control panel.  Your help is appreciated.  Thank you.

I'm not familiar with the subject, what you write about, but I have a few
    thoughts anyway:

Control Panel items are special files with the .cpl suffix, in
    \Windows\System32.

I don't know how to identify the name of the file of the control icon
Group of experts, but you can try glancing all objects in \windows\system32,
Sort by type, and then look at the dates - most of them will be the same
-those that are unchanged in relation to the date of the operating system has been issued. See if you
spot which could be crime may file and consider renaming - if she
is currently game.cpl, try game.cpl.bad for example.

See if you have found the right method. If this isn't the case, rename it back and try another.

Once you have the correct file, you can just leave it alone, or remove
    it.

  • When I try to play games on windows vista I get a message saying "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the control panel of the associations. How can I fix it?

    XXXXXX

    Hi Randy,

Welcome to the Windows Vista answers Forum!

I have a few questions about your concerns:

    (a) game in which you try to read?

    (b) is this the case with all games or any game in particular?

    (c) you are trying to play the games that are built with Window Vista?

    (d) what version of Window Vista do you use?

You can also try the suite of measures to define the association:

    1. open the control panel. (Classic view)

2 click the default programs icon.

3 click on the link associated with a file type or Protocol with a program . (See screenshot below)

4 click the extension file type to change which program .exe association opens. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: It may take a while to load up

5 click on change program button.

6 if the list, select the program that you want to be associated with (opens) the file extension. (See screenshot below)

    (A) check the always use the selected program to open this type of program , and then click OK.

7 if the program is not listed, then click the Browse button and navigate to the .exe of the program you want to default to open the file extension.

    (a) select the program.

    (b) click on the Open button

    (C) check the always use the selected program to open this type of program and click OK to apply.

    This should solve your problem.

    Hope this information is useful.
