Catalogs, Collections, that I came here?

1... new to Lightroom.

I have a photo library on my hard drive, I imported the files in lightroom, or I thought I did... The photos appear under my hard drive Mac taking place with in Lightroom.

Can I change the pictures from there. (selection of a picture of this hard collection and continue to develop?)  Will be the changes that I made these individual photos, recorded in a copy of the photo from this library of hard drive?

I created also Collections by dragging photos from the library to the folders inside the collections fall down.

When I want to edit a photo, choose it starting from the hard disk pane Macintosh, or in the Collections pane... .and the changes to each photo is stored in the master file on my drive hard photo?

Thanks for your help for having started me with Lightroom.

First of all, Lightroom does NOT record changes to the images. Your master images imported into Lightroom are left intact. All settings are stored in a catalog. The catalog is a file database on your computer. It contains information about your images where they are, and all the settings that you have made to these images. However, it does not have the image files. They image files are located in folders on your computer, and you can designate where those files are located as you import your images.

A collection is something that you create of images together for one purpose or another. It could be an event, a trip, a family, a wedding or what ever. You decide what you want in a collection. You can make adjustments are either in the collection or folder, you work on the same image. A collection is something that only exists in the catalog.

If you want a copy of the image to give to someone who understands all the settings that you have made using Lightroom you would use the export function to export a copy of this image.

Since you are new to Lightroom, I suggest that you take the time to look at this series of introductory videos. They were designed for 5 of Lightroom, but everything it is question would apply to other versions as well.
