  I woke up this morning to find that my computer has restarted in the middle of the night and now could not start properly.  Startup Repair failed and the detailed report showed the first cause to be a corrupt file ecache.sys.

  Then I ran the system restore and has two options of restore point: the regular checkpoint from 20:00 last night and the other following the installation of Ipdate Windowx at 11 pm last night.  No restore points have worked.

  The error received is here: the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error. (0x8007045D)

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  If you are faced with the question after you perform a startup repair and system restore, and then try to perform a checkdisk start of the Installation of Windows Vista disc.

  a. Insert the installation disc.

  b. restart your computer.

  c. click on the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart. If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

  Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings.

  d. choose your language settings, and then click Next.

  e. in the System Recovery Options menu, click command prompt

  f. at a command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER

  Chkdsk /f /r X: (drive letter)

  g. press y when you are prompted to check the drive the next time the system restarts.

  h. restart the computer and check.

  Note: When you run the disk check, there is a chance of losing the data that you can take a rapidespour of important data before you run checkdisk.
