Change the IP address of host turned off...

Hello

I need to change the IP address of a host off the power.  I intend to connect a monitor and keyboard directly to the host and just change the IP address of the HOST vmware console.

However how warn correctly my server vCenter on the host IP change without losing all the configuration changes and VMs... ?

Thanks for the comments on this

concerning the Tor

If you are uncomfortable in SQL, you can change the dbo. Table VPX_HOST in vCenter to change the IPAddress field for what you want.

Otherwise, turn on the host with the new IP address. Then vcenter, trying to reconnect (which will fail), after which you will be prompted to enter the username root and password to connect to the host. You can then use the new IP address.

In addition, even without DNS, you can edit the file hosts on the vCenter server and use host names for servers to go forward in order to avoid this complication. Much simpler to edit a hosts file.

Edit: Just for fun, I changed the IP address on a host laboratory while he was online and connected to vCenter, wherein he disconnected and then reconnected with the correct IP address. So, I guess it works too

I don't have the same gui as you version but I think that the dhcp reservation is under status, LAN, then feservations dhcp.  If you put it there it should get the same ip every time the router restarts unless you make a zero factory which destroys all configs. • How can I remotely change the IP address of a host ESXi 4.1

I have 2 VMWare ESXi 4.1 hosts who have been moved to the customer site.

They are currently configured to use DHCP, but I need to return the two static IP addresses.

    How can I do this?

I can do it in vSphere CLI?

If so, how should I do this?

I have never used vSpehere before CLI, so need a full breakdown, including please how to connect to the host...

I have reviewed the documentation, but it's a little hard to understand.

    Thank you

    Hiya,

You are able to get physical access to the ESX host?   I don't know if you can make the change remotely, because in order to change the IP address, you need to remove the network card.   Remove the adapter effectively cut off access to the network that you use for remote administration.

Could you possibly get a 2nd active connection through DHCP network connected to the ESX host (must double NIC?)?   Then you could probably remote in on the 2nd link and delete/recreate the 1st.   Worth a try at least!

  • Need a script to change the ip address of multiple virtual computers

    Hi all

I have a task to change the ip addresses of multiple ip addresses from DHCP to Static server windows operating systems. I have a powershell script I tried to archieve it work with. However, once the ip address is changed the tcp connection is reset. At this point, the script errors on.

Now that I'm stuck with powershell, I turned to powercli. I want to address with the string below, but as assistance to refine.

    Get-VMHost $VMHost | Get - vm $VM.name | Get-VMGuestNetworkInterface | WHERE-object {$_.name - eq 'Connect to the Local network'} | Game VMGuestNetworkInterface - static IPPolicy - gateway $VM. Gateway - Netmask $VM.Netmask Ip - $VM.ipaddr - Verbose

I read all the entries to a CSV file.

    You will appreciate your help.

    See you soon,.

    Bpcue

Of course, you could do something like that

    foreach($row in (Import-Csv "C:\input.csv" -UseCulture)){
        Get-VMHost $row.Hostname | Get-VM $row.VMname |
        Get-VMGuestNetworkInterface |
        where-object {$_.Name -eq "Local Area Connection"} |
        Set-VMGuestNetworkInterface -IPPolicy static -Gateway $row.Gateway -Netmask $row.Netmask -Ip $row.ipaddr
    }

This assumes that your CSV file has the following columns

Host name, VMname, ipaddr, netmask, gateway

BTW, the cmdlet Set-VMGuestNetworkInterface uses Invoke-VMScript to launch one of the scripts that you find in the folder the PowerCLI installation directory Scripts .

If you take a look inside one of these BAT files, you will see that it is also using the netsh command

  • SE10E starts, I see the LENOVO log, then it turns off + Rootkit problem

    Hello and happy holidays,

My wife's laptop has been infected with Rootkit.gen.
I now use my desktop PC to write this.
AVAST antivirus has detected the Rootkit on my LENOVO laptop, SE10e Windows XP and advised to send infected the "chest" (Qurantine) files. " We did it, but she kept reappering.

Many devices had an exclamation point in yellow triangle in Device Manager (food, Internet access the mouse, USB ports, SM BIOS, chipset Intel... (+ other stuff). Basically, the ROOTKIT infected all the essential devices.
I was told to uninstall the one marked, then reinstalled. It worked for some, the exclamation point missing.

I was then asked to reboot for the changes to take effect and since impossible to restart. The system starts up, I see the Lenovo logo, then it turns OFF after 1 or 2 seconds. F1, F8. F11 have no effect.

I tried to unplug, remove the battery, wait, and plug it back. He gave me 4 seconds but it is still impossible to do anything.
    I'm really desperate.

I feel so uselessThanks, thank you, thank you for any help that you could provide.

Problem solved power: an extension defective cord :-((.)  With this work, I did a new reinstall with F11. Everything went well, wife is happy, almost like having a new laptop

    Thanks for the support here.

  • What is the best way to change the IP address of management vmkernel on a vDS?

    Hi all

I'm changing the IP address of the management interface vmkernel with as little downtime as possible and markets.

The interface is part of a distributed switch and the host is part of a cluster on the vCenter server.

As for now, here's what I do:

    (1) to migrate all virtual machines on the host and put it into Maintenance Mode.

    (2) remove a vmnic from the vDS and add it to the standard switch (which guarantees access to the management of VLANS).

    (3) move the core of the management of the vDS to the standard switch.

    (4) remove the host to the switch of the vDS.

    (5) remove the host from the inventory.

    (6) change the IP address, then make the changes in the DNS in accordance.

    (7) re add the host to the cluster of vCenter.

    (8) apply a profile of the host with the previous configuration (config vmnic, vmkernels, etc.).

    (9) correct the host profile.

    How do you do it?

    Greetings,

    RO

Take a look at the post of Chris Wahl

Application of new IP addresses to vCenter, hosts of ESXi and Plugins - network Wahl

As long as the hosts are connected to vCenter using their FULL domain name, you wouldn't remove them from vDS, etc..

  • Accidentally changed the IP address, can not open a session now

    I use vSphere, ESXi 4.0.

I logged my server via vSphere client. Then on the interface vSphere client, I went to the tab 'Configuration'-> 'Networking' link under Hardware-> "Properties"-> link clicked on change "Network management" on the tab "Ports"-> "IP settings." Then I changed the IP address, VMKernel Default Gateway and subnet mask. Click on 'OK '. After that, my client vSphere lost the connection to this host, I can not connect more using the old or new IP.

Log error message: vSphere client could not connect with the server 'xxx.xx.x.xx' of vSphere. Details: A connection failure has occurred (unable to connect to the remote server).

I don't know what these changes mean, I did (was tinkering all around) and want to return to the old IP now. How can I do this through my client terminal? Does not wish to go on the host server physical to do so (but if that's what it takes, how do both?)

Thank you very much. Really need help.

-Si DNS is configured, and then try to connect with the ESXi FULL domain name

-If the material HP or Dell, then try connection via ILO or DRAC, if configured.

-See if the new or old IP who responded, if yes try to connect via Putty.

    My 2 cents.
