Character set US7ASCII AL32UTF8 migration to Oracle Applications database

What is the best method to get the character set migration of Oracle Applications database?

The options available are

(1) export and import

(2) CSALTER

(3) DMU

Database - 11g

Applications - R12

Please suggest some tips and recommendations.

Kind regards

Nordine

Nordine salvation,

I suggest you to refer the link: "How do I convert the character set for Oracle R12.1.1 running on 11.0.6 database Oracle US7ASCII' as it is very relevant to you."

Response to your previous post would be:

S ' stick to a plan

-Try all of the activity on the TEST server for yourself

-Troubleshoot and debug all the question from A - Z

-On the successful implementation, make a backup of the Production and move the solution to PROD.

If possible, run a lot of questions while doing the character set migration oracle applications, database because it contains the application tables.

I accept the fact that EBS database is complicated to a database independent, but still all the features and debugging tools and troubleshooting is the same, although it is autonomous or EBS database.

We should do if we stuck to the top in with and truncate in the application according to the CSSCAN results tables,.

little tables when we checked in Metalink he says to avoid these tables which do not affect the database or application.

Try in a Test Server, the above link helps you on the issue. You can find answer to some tables with loss in metalink if it's a bug, just lift a SRt solve your problem.

What we must do if we are in important application tables, export and import will help in this issue.

No, if we have available data with loss, then we cannot use the Import/Export and we will have to use CSALTER instead.

is this the right method or must contact oracle support for assistance on important application tables.

YES, I personally recommend you try and paralleling have ongoing Oracle support. So that you will have a guide from A to Z, in the case you're wrong

Hope this helps

Best regards

I did the migration of Oracle 8.1.6 to 10g database. Although I wasn't about many questions, questions I have met have been documented in Metalink. First, you will need to do a test migration, a UAT and then go to know the risk to go into production.
I think you need to upgrade to 8.1.7 and migrate then import/export 10g directly. I had faced problems with the database with the Oracle Application database queues.

  • build the new database through scripts must understand Spanish character sets.

    Hello gurus,
I need to some simple tips, a good chance for some quick points for you.
I've never built a database to understand any different other than the U.S. English character set. I now have to build a database that will be used for characters Spanish-keyboards, etc. But I will use English to install 11g software. I just want to be able to show the Spanish characters in the data for the names of clients.
I will create the database with scripts that I did to make the standard model for data files, control files, etc..
Then I import in a dump that I did and that was done with American English character sets.
The system is 11g (11.2.0.3.0) on Linux Enterprise Server 5.8.
I thought I'd use the AL32UTF8 character set, but I'm not sure where to use them.
My original test showed no Spanish characters for names of customers as the "tilda" or "sueano" (excuse my spelling). But in this case I did the exceptional for Spanish, I used only the construction of standard American English (no change in the file init.ora or original database create script).

How can I adjust my settings file for the initial creation of the database model to be able to understand the Spanish character set and still be able to import my dump error-free file.

    EXAMPLE of a build script:

    CREATE DATABASE mynewdb
The USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY sys_password
The USER IDENTIFIED BY system_password SYSTEM
    LOGFILE GROUP 1 ('/ u01/app/oracle/oradata/mynewdb/redo01.log') SIZE in the 100M.
    GROUP 2 ('/ u01/app/oracle/oradata/mynewdb/redo02.log') SIZE in the 100M.
    GROUP 3 ('/ u01/app/oracle/oradata/mynewdb/redo03.log') SIZE 100 M
    MAXLOGFILES 5
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 5
    MAXLOGHISTORY 1
    MAXDATAFILES 100
    CHARACTER SET US7ASCII
    NATIONAL CHARACTER SET AL16UTF16

If I replace to AL32UTF8 AL16UTF16 NATIONAL CHARACTER SET, will it work to show the Spanish characters?

Sorry for the long-winded question, any advice will be great.

    Fortunately,
    Shawn

    Hello
the national character sets is for the column as nvarchar types not for normal varchar data types. So if your dump file contains column types, you also need to set. The character set is for normal column as a varchar types. The use of unicode is best practice if you use the multiel language, but keep in mind that multibyte character set can be a problem when importing because varchar2 (10) means byte 10 and not 10 characters, so mistakes as an identifier for a long time may occur when importing.
    You can create the database.

    See this documentation:
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B28359_01/server.111/b28298/ch2charset.htm

You can use a like WE8MSWIN1252 character set which covers the Spanish also (like many, I know) and a superset of us7ascii

  • Changing the character set in the database 11G

Running Windows 2008 Server 64-bit and Oracle 11 g (V 11.2.0.1.0). I would like to change my default character set when installing from 11 G to CS AL32UTF8.

I read the utility Guide and Guide Support for globalization (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28298/ch11charsetmig.htm#g1011430), but none of these documents shows how you can effectively change everything / the character set of the migration. I would do this using the export and import utilities since this seems to be the most popular recommendation. But I'm really not sure of the procedure to follow to change the CS. For example, should I first export and then import then run the CSCHANGE script that is described in the globalization support Guide?

I would be grateful any guidance on how to actually change the character set to AL32UTF8 and all documentation that explains not only the concepts, but the STEPS of HOW this can be done. Thank you, J

It seems that Data Dictionary has some convertible entries. you need to fix this all the objects individually as suggested in metalink Note 258904.1

Application object has a truncation and entered convertible. For truncation entries, you must increase the size of the column of the completed columns as shown in the .err log file. For convertible entries, you must perform the export/import. Note 1283764.1

  • Value US7ASCII AL32UTF8 database character change

Our database is running on the Oracle 10.1.0.4.0 database (AIX) the following are its parameters:

    SQL > select value from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where parameter = "NLS_CHARACTERSET";

    VALUE
    ----------------------------------------
    US7ASCII

We would like to change the value AL32UTF8 database character. After completing the Metalink notes: 260192.1 (who helped us solve data "With" and "Truncated", is the final result of the CSSCAN utility):

    [Scanning summary]
All data type characters in the data dictionary can be convertible to the new character set
All data of character type is convertible to the new character set

[Summary of the Data Conversion dictionary]
The data dictionary can be migrated safely using the CSALTER script

We have no truncation and with (0) entry on the .txt file. We have Changeless and Convertible. Now accdg to the documentation, we can do a FULL EXP and FULL IMP. But it does not detail how to do the conversion on the same database. The discussion on the document explains how do from one database to another database. But what about on the same database?

We cannot use CSALTER as indicated on the document.
    (Step 6
    Step 12
12.c) when you use Csalter/Alter database to AL32UTF8 and there was NO data "Truncation", only "Convertible" and "Changeless" in the csscan in point 4 :)

After you COMPLETE the database export, how can we change its character set? What must we do the existing database to change its character value AL32UTF8 until we import back our in the same dump file database?

    Help, please.

You cannot use CSALTER indeed you have given application convertible. Only the application data does not change are supported by the script.

We do not support the conversion in place of the version of database you have except via Oracle Consulting services. Please upgrade to one of the versions of database supported by the DMU (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/globalization/dmu/overview/index.html) utility and ask the DB fix required for the enhanced version and platform supported by the Oracle. I think there is already a patch for 10.2.0.5 on AIX 64-bit POWER but this is to be confirmed.

Without the CDS, you can do a selective export of only convertible tables, truncate table, use CSALTER and re - import.

  • Characterset US7ASCII to AL32UTF8 migration

    Hi gurus,

I'm a newbie to the characterset migration. We are migrating characterset of our US7ASCII to AL32UTF8 database. As this is a superset can I use the csalter, but the csscan notifies that application data will be 'with data loss. Why is it display data with loss I thought that all the characters must be converted and available in the character set of superset.

What I need to fix this or csalter will fix it. If I have to fix how it should be fixed.

    Thank you

Yes, values are reported as lossy essentially when they contain binary set of codes that are not valid in character FROMCHAR (FROMCHAR or in the database character set by default). This means that binary data stored in columns of characters or data encoded in a different set of characters FROMCHAR character set (and usually stored in a direct configuration or, rarely, with the help of some other tricks such as data of type casting of RAW). In rare cases, the values with loss can contain random garbage caused by hardware or software errors.

It is therefore important to look at the values, including looking at binary (i.e. "in hexadecimal") codes, in order to diagnose the source of the invalid codes. Depending on the cause, the solution can vary.

  • Data loss while placing the dump in the database character set al32utf8

    Dear all,
At the present time our application with data in the database to the character set TH8TISASCII so we are able to visualize the THAI language. Now, we got a new requirement in that, "we must support bothTHAI & CHINESE languages.
so, we created the new instance and db with character set AL32UTF8. IAM lose some data (which has the THAI characters) and get the following error message during the import of discharge in the new database character set AL32UTF8.

Error Msg: IMP-00019: rejected due to the ORACLE 12899 error line
    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 12899
    ORA-12899: value too large for column 'ESUPPLYUAT '. "" "" ORGP_ITEMS '. "" SHORT_NAME' (population: 36, maximum: 25).
Is there any character set other than AL32UTF8 that supports Chinese and Thai languages?
Otherwise it is any otherway to import data in the database with character set AL32UTF8 without losing data?

Please provide the solution for this problem.

    Thank you

You can first create the table (using lines of script or creating imp table = n), expand the column, and then import the data with ignored errors (imp ignore = y)

  • Oracle 10 G support Cyrillic and Western European Character Sets

    Hi all

Our database currently supports EU Western character sets, but we must also support Russian characters.
Is there a common character set for both? or something that does the job?

    Thank you.

  • Error ORA-12712 when changing the character set AL32UTF8 to nls

    Hello

It is strongly advised to use the AL32UTF8 database character set when ever a database is used with our XML capabilities. The database character set in the installed base is WE8MSWIN1252. To use XML DB functionality, I need to change it to AL32UTF8. But, when I try to do that, I get ORA-12712: new character set must be a superset of the old character set. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks in advance,
    Divya.

    Hello

a change of we8mswin1252 to al32utf8 is not directly possible. This is because al32utf is not a binary superset of we8mswin1252.

    There are 2 options:
    -use any export and import
-Use of the altar in a kind of limited

Depends on the method, you can choose the characters in the database, is that only ASCII then the other can work, in other cases, one is necessary.

    It is all described in Note 260192.1support, "replacing the NLS_CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8 / UTF8 (Unicode). Get on-site support/metalink.

You can also read the chapters about it in the Guide of globalization: [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/ch11charsetmig.htm#g1011430] change characterset.
