ChkDsk stuck at 10% for hours

We are running ChkDsk on a volume of 2 TB and he was slain at 10% for 4 hours that day.

It is a virtual machine running on the VMWare ESXi hypervisor

The Volume is stored on a nimble SAN storage
Using the options / r/f

Someone knows a chkdsk run long?  I know that this could take some time, but 4 hours seems excessive and I just hope that it is running by the next business day.  Anything else I can do if it is still going in the morning?  I really don't want to restart the server mid chkdsk, but we cannot have more time to stop.

We had corruption on one of the volumes, which is what prompted me to run chkdsk, normally I never run something like that during the day, but we were desperate.

Thanks for your reply...  I went to bed at night and the next day, he was still on 151 of 194... I talked to someone at microsoft and they said that it was possible to screw up my bios if I turned off.    The person at microsoft told me to call Dell...  I said that Dell was told to call microsoft.    I also made him point it is microsoft product, but he kept saying... contact Dell.  In any case, I called Dell again and they told me to power it down.   When I restarted it... It was ok... I've always had about 40 + updates, but got through them ok...

  • CHKDSK stalls for hours, HARD drive heat

When I perform a Chkdsk command, it gets the 4 5 and stalls for hours (at least 9).  I don't mind let it go any longer, but the hard drive heats excessively, and file number has not changed for several hours (at least 3).  (Not sure when the HARD drive started heating since I've implemented to work all night... the laptop everything was hot in the morning and by three overtime I left it run in the morning, if at least it had run hot like that for three hours, I know.)

I hesitated restart, but he remained on the exact number the same for at least three hours and the machine was very hot, even if I slept it on the back of the screen with the keyboard/computer in the air part to enable it to better cool.

1 - is 'normal' for the Chkdsk stay on the same number of folder for hours?

2 is the much greater heat normal?

    Hello

Of course overheating may damage your machine.

Check vents for hair, dust, etc. and do not use a laptop when it is based on material surfaces: bedspreads, blankets, etc.

If the problem persists, because it of a laptop, bring it to a local computer and reliable repair shop and get them to open and clean the dust inside...

Here is an interesting discussion about the reasons for your problem:

  • Firefox keeps asking for an update, but is unable to complete. It is stuck on the "Connecting to Server" and turns for hours until I stop. Help!

I have a version of Mac OS X 10.5.8 and I used Firefox on it since I got it 3 years (?). The most recent update for Firefox and Thunderbird guard invites me, but when I say 'yes' to update, a bar with lines moving through it, and he said: "Connecting to the update server", but it is never a more far. I left for hours at a time and it does actually update or another program.

If you have problems with the update then more simple is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop DMG

    • Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
    • Install the new version you downloaded

How to use transfer windows for xp to xp.  When I plug usb computers are delivered to the top with the same screen and when I try to use the transfer to the new computer, it just said information gathering and sits for hours

    Hello, welcome.

The process is automatic and the maximum transfer rate should be about 20 GB/HR. If the process crashes during that long of a time, it's probably because of something internal rather something you're doing wrong.
For reference purposes, I included this link. It goes into the details of the migration from XP to Vista (and the basic steps you follow). The instructions are for migrating to Vista via the network, but you can easily follow the steps and choose a different option for your specific installation.
For both machines, I recommend you to prepare for the transfer using the following procedure:
    1. click on START > run
2 type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter
    3. go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all the entries displayed
    4. click on 'Apply' at the bottom right
DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AGAIN
    5. click on START > run
    6. Type "cmd" (without the quotes). Right-click on the result at the top of the menu START and select 'run as administrator '.
    7. type chkdsk /r and press enter
8 allow the system to attempt disassembly of the volume
    9. allow the system to plan restarting
    10. restart your computer
11 let checkdisk analyze the file system on your hard drive
    12. Once completed, perform the same steps on the other machine
    13. Once completed, repeat the transfer

  • Vista goes to 50% CPU usage and connects the computer for hours after the beginning

    Original title: Vista processor

Stupid Vista goes to 50% CPU usage and connects the computer for hours after the start.  Cannot run anything with any request of CPU without getting bogged down and crashing.  It is not windows defender, I suspend this service and the machine is ok for another 1/2 hour, them I'm up to 50% of the CPU.  The idle process said Task Manager is > 90%, still indicates 50% CPU usage and the cooling fan looks like a 747 taking off.  Should I just pull the machine and go for Linux, or what?  Cannot run games or whatever it is, totally disgusted with vista of POS and microsoft can it Deep and do not get windows 7, it is probably worse.  Is that all I can turn off to get the same performance than, say, windows 3.1?  It would be preferable to the current situation.  MSCKMA.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

How to install a device driver in Vista Device Manager
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-Device-Manager-install-driver.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

Refer to these discussions because many more excellent advice however don't forget to check your antivirus

    first.
